I'll get time to clean this up later, but we're inside 4 weeks of the 24 Hours of Daytona, and with the holidays going on, I don't want to procrastinate too much.

I'd love to run a GTP car (despite the fact that they're a broken disaster right now), but otherwise I'll run the LMP2.

Personally, I'm not interested in running a GTD car at Daytona, and risk being in a GT3 only split. Anywhere else, but not Daytona and Le Mans.

Also, the iRacing CONSPIT Endurance will be there the weekend of January 10th, so, for anyone interested, it will be a 6-Hour shakedown race.

If we're leaning toward the Porsche GTP, I'll start practicing that because I have not driven the GTPs. What about it is broken?

@Deb iRacing has never properly moddled the Hybrid system in any of the cars (F1, LMP1, or GTP), the aero has never been great, and the tyres were shit when they released them last year.

Now the aero and tyres are broken in the complete opposite direction, with lap times around Spa in the wet ecliplsing real-life Super-Pole times by seconds, and apex speeds of 50-70kmh more than is possible IRL.

I would prefer LMP2, I only own the BMW GTP but I will get the Porsche if that ends up being the car of choice for the numbers we get.

I don't mind driving any class for Daytona. I haven't driven (nor owned) a GTP before so I am somewhat curious though.

Running two teams might be a bit optimistic though.

BMW MGU-K Deploy mode, per iRacing's Tool Tip:

"There are two MGU-K deployment modes; race and qualifying. Race custs deploy at a % of projected speed at end of next straight in order to maintain target battery charge level. Qual holds the power in Overtake mode."

The two MGU-K deployment modes; "No Deploy", "Qual", "Attack", "Balanced" and "Build".

iRacing's tool-tips remain undefeated, completely unmatched in detail.

It seems if you put the car in "Qual" then you can't get it back out. Not sure what's happening there, but I would avoid doing that in the race. Only way I could get the car out of Qual mode was to exit the car and change it in the garage screen.

The BMW feels a lot more drivable than it did when it released and for me it was a lot faster than my times in the LMP2 where as a year or so ago I would run myself over with the LMP2 vs the GTP.
So far with the default iracing setups, I was doing:

1:32-33 in the GTP at 18 degrees C track, and 1:34-5 at 27 Degrees
1:37-38 in the LMP2 at 18 Degrees C and 1:39-1:40 at 27 Degrees
The tyres didn't seem to suffer in the GTP over an entire stint (70% lowest)

I would need to check again to confirm but I believe the in car settings for the GTP allow you to change MGU-K mode twice per lap, which would be fine if you could set each one to a button but you have to cycle through a mode you don't need to get to one you do. So, if you turn your rotary the wrong way then you are in trouble for a lap.

Balanced setting from start of stint to finish seemed to work out fine for me with the opening laps getting faster and faster until the engine worked out how much it could deploy without letting the battery drop far below 50% charge.
I am sure we can all figure it out during practice in the coming weeks!

The battery mode didn't have as much effect on the speed as I initially thought. I left it at balanced for most of practice and the charge was kept nicely between 40-50%.

After that I tried attack mode, which definitely depletes the battery, but not at a very high rate. I believe it was roughly in the area of 20% charge over about 6 laps. Even qualifying mode doesn't make it go 100% to 0% in a single lap, unfortunately.

What the difference is between "No deploy" and "Build", I haven't figured out yet. As far as I could tell, both have a target percentage of 100 and do not use the battery at all.

TL;DR, keeping it at balanced is probably the way to go, unless you know you can get past someone with a minor boost. It might also be funny to give the car to the next driver with 0% charge left :D

So who is gonna make the final call on which car it'll be so I can buy and try around? :p

Am I correct that currently 5 people have signed up for this?
Skid_Marc, Noddleguitar, Deb, Nejtun and me?

Noodle, Deb and Bill have already bought the BMW, so I'm not gonna make them switch now. My friend Bill also wants to drive, so that's 6 drivers.
