B2O Dirt Rally 2 Club

#1
Hi everyone.
I have setup a new Dirt Rally 2 Club (League) that anyone can join.
Go to https://dirtrally2.com/clubs/club/224065 and join.
It is open so no need to ask for permission to join.
As this is new I have set 4 locations, each location has 4 events and you will have 7 days to complete each location.
The start date is Nov 9th 10AM JST.
Come join me and try to beat my times.

This was very intense! Really like the "one shot/no do-over" format as it makes sure you pay full attention!
Quick couple of tips as some things are not instantly obvious:
  1. Repairs are available after every stage, use them! (on the normal championship you get a service area every two stages)

  2. Take 1 or 2 spare tyres, a puncture will ruin your stage more than the time it takes to change a wheel.

  3. I have "button/key prompts" switched on so if you go off a cliff or down a hill the game should prompt you to recover the car with whatever button you have bound to it.
You take a time penalty for car recovery but it can be better than trying to fight these rear wheel drive cars up a steep incline if you have gone off badly. **EDIT** if you cannot remember which button is bound to car recovery then the pause menu has a recover car option which does the same thing, cost you another second or two this way but still faster than trying to drive out of an impossible situation (sometimes the car is totally stuck)

  4. BIND KEYS to "recover vehicle" and "roadside repair" again, you will get an on-screen prompt for repairs (they might as well call it puncture repair as I am pretty sure this is the only thing that can be done at the side of the road)
To get the prompt to show after a puncture, you must bring the car to a stop then press the roadside repair button.

  5. Bind a Key to headlights: Not sure how much this means to monitor users but VR can be very very dark in the nighttime stages and even some daytime stages have so much tree cover that you wont want to rely on the auto headlights coming on. That being said.....

  6. Set your headlights and wipers to auto activate. nothing worse than messing about looking for a button when you are trying to listen to Phil giving instructions, again, this might just be a problem for me using VR where I cannot see my controls. I believe this counts as a driver assist but as we are not gaining XP/Credits then who cares! No fun to bbe struggling with controls when you are concentrating on driving.
This Event so far is good fun, still 6 days for anyone else to join and get in on the first event, I think there are 8 of us so far.
Thanks George!

This is the first round at Australia for me. Sorry about the slightly skippy frames but recording this in VR means I either have to drop the output to 720p or up the bitrate to 24k (impossible on twitch) to get a smooth ride. For the next one I will either record it and put it on YouTube or drop the quality and broadcast it.

It would be nice to have everyone who recorded or broadcast their runs post the videos up here plus any write up of your event so we can see how everyone is progressing especially for those not able to view the live streams or those who are not taking part! (why aren't you? :) )

I quite like the Australia stages, probably my strongest out of the 4 we have to do so it can only go downhill from here :p
All 4 rounds went pretty well! Got my H-Pattern shifter working properly again so didn't have to worry much about missing gears!
I have to use a pedal as a handbrake so the co-ordination is a bit skewed, but still a lot of fun, I prefer this style of shifting to paddle shifters although it is quite tiring!
I had a couple of moments, one that was almost terminal with a telephone pole in the first stage :D, and manged to completely miss a right angled turn and come to a stop pointing at a fence pole on the last night stage :D other than that I was very very lucky for the rest with only light damage to fix each time at the service stops.

Here is the Video!

@Kenadian I cannot embed the twitch video with the media tool, I had to put a picture placeholder and make it a link!
(manual media insertion doesn't show either until you edit the post)

Twitch embeds have never worked all that well and became flat out broken after the new Webhost took over.

There's not much I can do about it until such time as we relocate, apologies.

"Shit shit shit shit, don't hit the post... Only a little bit" - Nejtun

I have always wanted to try Dirt Rally since before I had a PC that could run it. I see it is on sale currently so it might be a good time to pick it up. Can anyone tell me which seasons I would need to join this club? I'm not sure if I want to buy all of them if that is not necessary.

It is Dirt rally 2 you want Noel not just Dirt Rally (although that is just as awesome and still current among racers), I "think" for this league you would need only the base game but that leaves out some of the good circuits and cars, I have the " deluxe pack" which includes the base game and seasons 1+2 which adds rallys such as Monaco and Finland.
This is the one I would recommend at the least, the base game is cheap on CD keys, haven't yet seen the Season Pass on sale anywhere but steam so far. CD keys had the original Deluxe Pack at a time but doesn't show for me anymore.

The new "super deluxe pack" includes season 3+4 as well as the stuff from above and only came out about a month ago, this has extra liveries, a couple of new (and quite obscure) rallys and cars and quite a lot of RallyX content (it's also 30 euros, I haven't bothered with this yet as I still have tons that I have not yet gotten to with the original Deluxe version)

I indeed bought the deluxe pack with season 1+2 since during the sale it was not that expensive. I must say it's a nice experience so far, definitely not easy!

I wanted to do the B2O event eventually so I practiced the first Australian stage a bit. On my second day I finally got a bit better at braking and not understeering everywhere so I gave the event a shot.

Damn, what the hell did you guys do to the track?! I practiced in time trial, on soft tyres. Then when I started the event I noticed I was on medium tyres (I could have taken soft I guess) and the track had extreme surface degradation. Lost a lot of time trying to figure out how to get any grip on this new combo but in the end it didn't go too horrible for my first time. I did have to make use of a recovery once in pretty much every stage. Next time I might also try to record my run.

Did some practice at Poland before starting the event, which helped. I'm still not sure whether the surface degradation is random or something, because I had the highest degradation level in 3 of the stages.

I have recorded and uploaded my runs for this week. I'm not very good at doing the finish bit. And yes, in stage 3 I turned my headlights off like a dumbass.

This accuforce profile is for Deb as I was told she was looking for one. This isn't mine but is similar so it should work well. Let me know if you have issues. Ok ..nevermind as this forum won't allow me to attach it. Let me know when you are on and I'll transfer it.

What type of file are you trying to attach to the forum @Dave?

My guess is it's not allowed to be uploaded as the file extension is not setup in the sites config.

@Dave, thanks for trying to send it to me. Is it something that can be transferred in TeamSpeak?

More B2O members are getting into Dirt Rally 1 and 2 not to mention the people that already play both of those!
Would it be possible to have a sub-forum "Dirt Rally 1+2" please? These posts are quite tricky to keep track of without tagging them specifically or can be totally missed by people that would probably be interested!

Also it would make these posts a lot tidier if we can make separate threads for things like screenshots, videos and so on. I am not sure how much extra work this creates @Kenadian but if it is relatively simple to make a new sub-forum then it would be very much appreciated! :D

ffs ok I guess I'll re-install 2 if you are all playing it ;P

I've been meaning to give it another go actually, since the shambles of a launch I haven't given it a second chance and stuck to the original. Time to see if the sequel can impress post patches...

Well George helped me learn how to navigate and set up practice runs, so I've got it all going, but on my second run in New England, the cord for my Accuforce somehow got twisted up in wheel and pulled the cord out from the plastic end  Not sure how that happened, it has never happened before. So I've ordered a replacement. I have a spare but it is not coiled and it works fine for iRacing but probably not for Dirt Rally 2, I'll wait until the new cords come in.
