Inside gaming daily has received some more info about GTA V as their chief editor got to play the game for a bit, and I will compile all the interesting bits here below (note that some details might be considered spoilers if you want to be surprised by this game);

  • Each character will have a unique skill;
  • Michael can slow down time when using weapons (bullet time)
  • Trevor can take and deal more melee damage
  • Franklin can slow down time while driving
  • Every heist has a planning stage where you can gather for example certain cars and weapons etc before the heist starts
  • You can hire a posse to aid in heists (drivers, gunmen etc)
  • Gameworld is aprox 5 x the size of Red Dead Redemption (included underwater areas, as you can scuba dive as well, think sharks and shipwrecks)
  • just like the helicopter tour in GTA IV, you can get a tour of Los Santos as well, by tourbus
  • You can buy stuff like property, cab company (offers free rides + income), but also for example a helipad as an adition to your house, giving you a heli spot there.
  • next to day and night cycle and dynamic weather there also will be wildlife

Yes, a ferrari looks like a lada too in the same way :p

Some more info;

  • There's minigames like yoga, golf, tennis, racing, triathlons, stuntjumps, flying challenges and picking up hitchhikers.
  • You can use your phone for contacts, internet, social media, calender, mission replays and for uploading pics to rockstar social club. (which means you'll have an effective way to take screenshots on xbox for me :) )
  • V will be able to show 5 times as many pedestrians as in IV
  • pedestrians will react more to the player, they might intervene, record you on their phone, or call the cops on you.
  • The wildlife can be hunted
  • There's a 5 star wanted system, next to trying to flee the 'circle' you'll also might evade stars by hiding out of sight
  • you can get tattoos, other clothes and different haircuts
  • cars can be customized both in appearance as well as performance
  • weapons can be cutomized as well (silencer, scope, bullet capacity etc)
  • the main characters, next to their special ability have stats like Stamina, Shooting, Strength, Stealth, Flying, Driving, Mechanic and Lung Capacity

I want two very simple things from this game:

1.) A tight-on-me camera that isn't lagging behind the action.

2.) Cars that don't drive like battleships.

Those were my two biggest complaints about IV. Well, that and how there was literally only one way to beat the scripted missions, 'cause you had to get to the cut scene where you dramatically pull the guy from the wrecked car at the gas station or whatever, but that meant the game would "cheat" to keep him ahead of you so he'd get to the gas station. All without telling you this, of course.

If they can fix those issues, I could get interested. Otherwise, I thought IV was a lovely tech demo, but a not-so-hot game. L.A. Noire was a better game, in my opinion.

Yes, the driving in IV took me a while to get used to, but once I had it down I could drift my way across town pretty well, considering I do like driving the older low performance cars with lousy handling. L.A. Noire is a great game for sure, though in some ways it doesn't really compare. Great city though, but the car handling wasn't that great either tbh.
So far I've heard positive sounds about the car handling in V, though most comments come from observing a demo handler and not from playing themself...

I do understand that your GTA experience completely depends on what you want out of a game, personally I'm a huge fan of freeroaming in an open world, so even if there had been no story line and heists I would have enjoyed myself anyway, just give me a plurality of transport modes and a huge world tto explore, and I'll enjoy myself anyway.

I played IV the same way, I walk/drive/fly around for days, then do a single mission, rinse and repeat, and finished thge main storyline after about 200 hoursof play hehehe

I probably would've gotten more into IV if I'd been able to get the hang of the cars. Mostly, my sense of IV was that it was seriously overhyped (though I played it probably 3-4 years after it'd come out). Yeah, great, you can go on dates and make your controller vibrate, or you can shoot pigeons, or just car jack people and drive erratically. After a while, that got boring for me, particularly since I was locked into various parts of the city, and couldn't move past them without doing story missions -- which were all on rails anyway.

I played on the 360 and just got tired of feeling like I was fighting the game for control of the avatars. The camera was always slow to respond, and the vehicles (and even people) just were INCREDIBLY sluggish.

With L.A. Noire, the game had a lot less free-roaming, but a much tighter and engaging story. I found the cars reasonably simple to control if only because they were more responsive. Plus, I wasn't usually having to race other cars which could turn on a dime even though I was turning like a battleship run aground. I liked the setting of L.A. Noire a lot more, too, which probably had a fair bit to do with my enjoyment of it.

By contrast, althuogh it was goofy and TOTALLY over the top, I found Saints Row 3 to be an absolute blast to play. The story was totally insane, but it was just FUN. I spent a bunch of time doing side gigs, too, and thoroughly enjoyed myself. I think a lot of that had to do with a much better control system.

Hopefully V will have improved controls. I'd LIKE to be able to get into these games, and I do see the potential for them, but so often it just feels like they spent a lot of time making the game "big" rather than actually "good." Or at least that's how I felt about IV.

I know what you mean with the sluggish controls, I kinda solved that by using both sticks at the same time to help the cam go where I want to go. Very cumbersome at first, but second nature by now. Also using the click stick to see behind helped there (especially when being chased).

L.A. Noire is one of my all time favorite games, so I can only agree with you there. it's the only game I ever bought a season pass for too, which means something for me.

I agree control issues can break a game, I hope the step forward in control from IV to V will be as big as for San Andreas to IV. Whatever the controls will be in V, I'll prob be playing it for hundreds of hours, so I guess I'll get used to them one way or another hehehe.

Meanwhile, the latest news on V makes me hopefull, where the graphical step forward in IV went with less features (not being able to spend your money on stuff other then weapons for example, no custimization other then clothes), it seems that V is a step forward both in looks and in content, and I'm looking forward to it very much.

Yeah, in taht sense they probably took a tip from a number of other games out there, like SR3 where you have literally thousands of outfits and design options for your character (but relatively few weapons). You can also heavily customize your car. The big difference is that nothing about SR3 is serious. At all. It's totally cartoony over-the-top violence. Like Loony Toons only with drug dealing and prostitution. :D

Well, there was already car customization in GTA SA, I like how it makes you treat your car different, especially as I like to try to drive without damaging my car :)

Looking truly amazing as we can expect from Rockstar. I like the fact that they brought buying property back into the game. Atleast you'll have some purpose of spending your money into something, unlike with GTA4.

Now I hope this doesn't have to make me buy a console.. I wonder how long they will wait before they say anything conclusive about a PC version. I can't believe a popular game such as GTA4 only sold 720.000 copies on the PC, considered the large amount of PC gamers. That's according to these charts, but it seems it doesn't include include US and other counties sales figures.

Red Dead Redemption was a pretty popular game too, but it never came out for the PC. Hopefully they won't repeat that decision with GTA5..

RDR was made by Rockstar San Diego who never port their games to PC; RS North (who make GTA) have always ported their games. So there is hope.

I didn't know that! So there's indeed still hope in the end...
