Hi

I'm an irregular visitor of the Band of Others Twitch channel and generally like the banter that is going on there. I got interested in joining your Practice Pals session and jumped in last Monday. At the end of the night I somehow ended up being accepted in your iRacing league, so I guess an introduction is due.

Hi everyone,
I'm a 32 year old guy from Germany. I started simracing in Assetto Corsa two years ago, although most time was spent on Nordschleife track day servers. I then started looking for a way to have more interesting multiplayer races on an irregular schedule and iRacing seemed to fit the bill in that regard.

I created my iRacing account last year, but my work decided to kill my spare time about two months later. That and the fact that I had to move equipment around on my desk each time I wanted to race led to a canceled subscription. I have since then changed a few things on my desk to remove the setup time and got a bit of spare time back, so I've restarted my subscription at the beginning of last season.

I'm currently driving the Porsche Cup and the Merc GT3. I tried the Ford GT3, but didn't like the way it drives. My most seat time up until now is probably in the Solstice. From what I've seen on stream, I'm probably a fair bit slower than you all.

Besides iRacing, I also play a wide variaty of other computer games, with WoW being my major time sink for the last couple of years.

See you on track. Greetings,
ShadniX

(If anything above doesn't make sense, then I probably messed up the translation.)

Wow terrific to have you with us ShadniX and welcome to the Band of Others Community.

Don't worry about League, pace, or anything else, it'll come in time. I used to be super slow when I started #PracticePals, now I'm just regular slow (I dropped the super part).

C'ya on track my friend.

Welcome to Band Of Others ShadniX!

I certainly hope B2O and it's members can bring you the same joy as it did for me over the last 14 years.

Like Shilka said, feel free to ask any questions and drop all your suggestions as wel.

If you ever come across a orange/white B2O Z4 on track, make sure you keep at least a lap distance, and if possible remain in pit until it crashes out (usually after 1.5 laps)

Good to have you here bud!

Welcome! Good thing you're already used to the TeamSpeak banter from listening on Twitch, it can be a bit much to get used to that and to race at the same time :)

Cool to hear you're still playing WoW, I've played that for quite a while during the Icecrown Citadel/Lich King era. Is it still any good? I've read a little on current MMORPGs and it seems that WoW still has the best raiding content. At the time I quit WoW because it took too much time and it was hard to find a committed group that would only raid 2 days/week.

Ah, the Lich King era - I do have a lot of fond memories of the WotLK expansion. I started in 2006 around the end of WoW classic, playing a holy priest as my main char ever since.

During the WotLK expansion, around the time Ulduar came out, there was a time where I actually knew what I was doing in that game and was fighting for server firstkills. Good times. That ended during Cataclysm during the Firelands raid. My guild stopped raiding back then, due to being unable to fill a tank position in the raid since the start of Cataclym and a lot of people transitioning from education to work. It was also around that time I started working a regular job while still being busy finishing university, so my free time was gone as well. I just played the solo content during that time. I got back into raiding just before the release of Siege of Orgrimmar during the Mists of Pandaria expansion - on a 2 days/week schedule.

I think the current expansion Legion is good - after content took a bit of a nosedive during Cataclysm, MoP and WoD. It was a time Blizzard promised a new expansion each year, but were never able to deliver. So each addon got content worth for about a year (arguably less) but it was streched to two years. That showed - and not in a good way. They've finally abandoned the idea of one expansion each year and ramped up the content creation for the current expansion. So the new content stream is good so far and there is sufficient of it.

They've also diversified the content a lot, offering most content in different difficulty levels, so players with very little time can take part in most forms of content. But I don't think that the ingame "Looking for Raid" function and raid difficulty is interesting to people who are looking for a similar raid experience they had during the old expansions.

As far as raiding content is concerned, WoW is probably still king in the MMORPG market, as far as I know. In all other regards, I've read and heard very good things about the current version of Final Fantasy XIV. I'm intrigued to try it out at some point. As far as I know, you can play for free until hitting level 35. Considering you level each class on the same character, there is probably a ton of content for free available that way. I've avoided it so far though. I have a suspicious feeling that I'd like what I'd see there and would get myself another time sink. Ironically, back in the day, I've avoided WoW for a long time because of a similar feeling.

Welcome to the dysfunctional family, ShadniX!

I used to play WoW as well. Stopped a little while after WotLK. Never found a better raiding mmo after trying a few different ones. Probably the next best would have been Final Fantasy XI Online, of which started my mmo career. Never really got back into mmo's after WoW though. I'm hesitant of the time sink as well. Look forward to seeing you on the track!

I've also read a few things about Final Fantasy XIV. If there is good raiding content I'm also tempted to try it out at some point. I don't really like the bright graphics style of it and the music, but if the rest is good it wouldn't be hard for me to see past that.
