We have quite a conundrum this week for league. The iRacing Official Blancpain Sprint Series is taking on Sebring Raceway, a track that historically provided some fantastic racing for the B2O Blancpain League. However, due to technical issues postponing the 6 Hours of the Glen two months ago, we find ourselves once again butted up against an iRacing Special Event Weekend.

As always, sticking to the iRacing Official schedule is always the first choice, but we understand if some of you would rather utilize this time to prepare for Watkins Glen (Corvette DP, Ferrari 488 GTE, Ford GT GTE, Audi R8 GT3, Mercedes AMG GT3).

If we use this as practice for Watkins Glen; there will be NOT be standard points awarded this week in league. However, I believe, the event would still count towards the race participation bonus points.

There are no Watkins Glen BSS options because we already raced Watkins Glen in Week 2 of this season.

League Format:

League consists of 3 sessions as follows:
  1. Open Qualify Session: Full Fuel - 7:30 PM EST (60 minutes). Drivers must record a clean lap within 103% of the fastest recorded lap time. Those who cannot do so are placed at the tail end of the field for the Qualify Race.
  2. Qualify Race (Inverse Grid "Opt In"): Full Fuel - 8:30 PM EST (30 minutes = 10 minute Warm Up + 20 minute Sprint Race). "Opt In" Inverse Grid based off results from Open Qualifier. Drivers outside of the 103% rule are automatically placed at the tail end of the field. (No Pit Stop)
  3. Main Race (Grid determined by Qualify Race): Full Fuel - 9:10 PM EST (60 minutes = 10 minute Warm Up + 50 minute Race). Grid is set by results from Qualify Race. One Pit Stop is required for tires only at the 25 minute mark.
Pit Window: 5 minutes in duration. Drivers must pit for tires within this window or incur a penalty. Pit Stop is only required in the Main Race.

Fast Repair: One fast repair is available. If taken outside of Pit Window Driver must perform a drive through penalty within Pit Window.

Scoring:

What makes Band of Others League unique is our ongoing commitment to provide scoring options that allow Drivers of all pace to score well.

All bonuses (and penalties) are geared toward rewarding people for clean driving and participation.

Scoring is % based on number of laps completed. All Drivers must complete 90% of the Leaders laps to achieve maximum points.

Please remember, this season we are experimenting with point scoring bonuses as seen in this post. All bonuses are participation based so the more you race, the more you score.

NOTE: This new scoring is currently in testing and will be run alongside our existing "Official" scoring based off the following:

Qualify Race Scoring: Positions 1 - 10 score. First place scores 10 points for race win with each lesser position scoring less one point. Race winner is also afforded 1 bonus point for race win.

Main Race Scoring: Race winner is scored 50 points + 1 bonus point, all positions following are scored -1 point from the previous position.

Bonuses: Qualify and Main Race only.
  • + 1 point for Race winner.
  • + 3 points for Race finish.
  • + 5 points for Race finish with 0 incident points.
  • + 10 points for 8 Race participation (proposed) Test Season Only
  • + 10 points for 16 Race participation (proposed) Test Season Only
  • + 25 points for referring a friend (proposed) Test Season Only. NOTE: Both Driver and friend MUST complete 8 Race minimum for either to score bonus.
Penalties:
  • - 3 points for every 10 incidents.
  • Car contact resulting in loss of control (drive through penalty).

NOTE: Pit penalties MUST be served within 3 laps of offence.

Championship Standings

Open Setups:

If you have a good setup please post it here.

If you are unwilling or unable to share your setup with other League Drivers then you are not permitted to use it during League events.

Car Selection:

All Drivers have until Week 4 to test different cars and still be scored in League.

Starting Week 5 you must commit to one car for the remainder of the Season else you will not score points.

After Week 5, you are allowed to change your car at any time in the season, but you will forfeit any points scored in a race not completed in your Week 5 car.

Track Selection:

B2O Blancpain Sprint Series attempts to follow the official iRacing Blancpain Sprint Series for its seasonal schedule. However, we may hold a poll offering track/layout changes due to the following conditions:
  • Our ongoing commitment to encourage close and competitive racing means we may offer a shorter version of a race track to keep the cars closer together. For example if the official series is at "Suzuka - Grand Prix" Layout, we may offer the choice to run the "Suzuka - East" or "Suzuka - West" layouts to keep the cars closer together.
  • Some tracks are disliked or not owned by a large portion of the community so we may fall back on a community favorite.
  • IMPORTANT: The Official iRacing BSS track of that week will ALWAYS be the Default track for the B2O Blancpain Sprint Series. This track will ALWAYS be included as Polling Option #1.
See you on the track :)

The other thing to add is it's Sebring night which I'm not sure if a good fit for League?

Kinger, Jeeve and myself put in a number of laps around there last night and it was a shit show. I'm not sure given peoples limited time to practice if this will result in anything other than shenanigans?

...with professional race car drivers, not weekend warriors who practice anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 hour before race time.

For us it's about keeping it as approachable as possible for drivers of varying skill levels and time commitments.

We'll figure it out Friday and I'll set time of day to suit popular opinion if need be.

@ all Drivers, either respond here or try to be on TS slightly prior to 7:30 PM EST this Friday.

Thanks.

I'm fine with using Friday as a practice session for those gearing up for the 6 hour. Would rather see the teams do well than try to increase any meager points I've gained through league races this season.

I'll be practicing for the glen that night anyway. I'd love to do it in an actual race with the league, but if not I'll just hang out in TS and be social while I practice and you folks race :)

Just to clear things up as far as the sweeping implementation of Endurance events into League and the feasibility thereof.

Our League (and any League scored on danlisa.com) are incapable of switching between single and multi-class series over the course of a single season. There are many reasons but the main is how to determine who places where in a multi-class event when your entire scoring and standings system is based off a single class of cars.

Even if you put the cars in one class (which is silly), people in the DP will always win the race followed by GTE and then GT3 (as an example). This means imbalance and there is no way to score for it.

This means there is absolutely no way we can run any class other than GT3 cars for League and score it.

Now if people are ok with running multi-class for a week prior to Endurance then that would not be considered a League Event again because we cannot score it. It will affect the standings too drastically even at iRacing for it to be fair to anyone.

The reason Spa worked is because it was a single GT3 class which is Blancpain. Anything incorporating any other class than GT3 is not possible to run as a League event.

Hopefully this clears it up for everyone.

This week the only thing we could do that would make it a League Event is to run GT3 cars only at the Glen.

I think nobody is running in GT3 car WG but maybe Im wrong,I know few of us race in GTE,for Marc Im not sure.
I think and guys its just my opinion :) that its good to run regular BES just late afternoon with whether what is in RL :) because some people dont like or cant race night.Personally I like night

**Trying to see how many wrenches I can throw into the gears**

We could run the 20 minute sprint race at night, and the main race the next day, too! :D
