[Special Event] 2024 iRacing Bathurst 12 Hours

I did an FFS in V2. Frankly, I found it somewhat of a struggle, it seems less forgiving to me. My best lap time was 2:08.87, which isn't all that much slower than yesterday, but on average it was quite slower with more laps in the 2:09s. I set the date to Feb 24 and could only get it to 90F again. I was really struggling in turn 3, not sure why, and sometimes on the downhill. Tire wear was about the same, but I only got 28 laps even though fuel usage per lap seemed slightly less. So I don't know, I can keep practicing with it, if you really like it and see if I can figure out how to be more stable, but my first impression is I prefer the medium downforce setup.

I didn't get a chance to check CSS last night as I worked late and had to get up early.

Today is my Friday though so I'll do this tonight and add the setup, assuming one's been made at this time.

Which time slot are you thinking of running?
Since it is not a 24 hour race, I prefer to run either the 07:00 or 12:00 time slot on Saturday, so that I can actually stay awake for the entire race. But I suppose those time slots are not very ideal for Americas time zones.

I don't really care when we run. I'm used to waking up at God awful hours for Endurance so I'm good with any timeslot really.

IIrc, I used to get up at 4 AM to do the first timeslot Saturday morning, which was fine.

No Worries deb! we can continue with the Medium downforce if that is what you are comfortable with, although I am going to adjust the diff a little just for some extra turn in and remove 1 click of wing, I will post the changed version here this afternoon, no big change , just removes some of the understeer. I will get used to the rest no problem.

First BoP has been published. Fortunately we don't have a team in the Ferrari, because that would be a terrible idea.

Audi R8 LMS EVO II GT3: -1% Power
BMW M4 GT3: -1% Power
Ferrari 296 GT3: -2% Power
Ford GT GT3
Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO
McLaren MP4-12C GT3: -1% Power
Mercedes-AMG GT3 2020: -1.5% Power
Porsche 911 GT3 R (992)

I would like #2 tbh :p but #3 is fine :)

Anyway @Deb and @Kenadian I made just a couple of changes, as anything too severe made the car feel like the V2 which deb is not getting along with, so I kept the wing and just changed the differential a little bit for some more turn in off throttle and used high friction brakes so the car will stop before it leaves the circuit!

A bit disappointed that the Ferrari is losing ANY power though, it already felt a tiny bit gutless up the straight

Found something interesting on the forums. iRacing does model brake degradation and temperature, but only during a stint. That makes the brake temperatures display in the Lamborghini (and probably other modern GT3s) at least somewhat valuable to look at.

Thought I'd try recording some VR driving with eye tracking around Bathurst. It's not a good video, because it isn't cropped and has no sound, but I was just testing something out.

I think this is an effective compromise. I wasn't able to get down into the 2:07s but most laps were in the 2:08s. Tires about the same. Fuel usage seemed a little more but not enough to cause an loss of a lap. We'll see if @Kenadian finds something or I can go buy one if we're not entirely happy with what we currently have available.

@Nejtun and @Kenadian, try this set up. I only ran about 10 laps in it, so I will try to do an FFS tomorrow, but by the 3rd lap, I was down in the 2:07s and stayed between 2:07s and low 2:08s (except when I made a mistake in F---n corner. Fuel usage may be more. Note the gearing is tighter but seems you can get on the power quicker coming out of the corners.

Hans and I both drove this earlier @Deb we can use this one no problem! @Kenadian the setup for clarity is the one 3 posts above this called debbathurst296

I kept instintively checking my mirror everytime I approach the final corner, but I couldn't figure out why. I'm in a test session, no one is around... what am I looking for? Why am I paranoid?

Then I remembered...
I think this was a hardware malfunction.

It's just not like me to aim for another driver.

I don't think I've ever hit anyone around here :)

Those are great clips though, man I miss Practice Pals.

Okay, I'll start traffic practice then. We may have to adjust based on temperature in practice sessions. Note it has a 6 wing, so I may test and see if we can take some wing out.
