BF1942 free on Origin

Origin. If someone's online on Origin, there's a pretty good chance they might be ready to play an EA game (usually BF3, some 1942), or are already playing a game. You can see what they're playing and what server they are in, except 1942. Most of us exit (turn off) Origin (I think) when not playing so it don't run in the background.

I'm at work right now so I can't double-check, but is this still free?

I heard it will be free from EA servers/Origin until March. Can't say if that's true though, although I think other sites (like Cnet) have picked it up. Check the "demo" section of Origin, should be in there and not under "free games" (but not 100% sure).

I was able to download it for free yesterday. There are 5-10 populated servers it looks like. Now that was a blast from the past! If only there was a way to install the FH mod...

EDIT* According to Origin you're able to install Desert Combat and EoD, I'll try that when I get home from work today, I'm also going to try to install FH and see what happens!

Well I just installed DC and it works, there are a few populated servers surprisingly. I'm currently downloading FH, I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work so far. I'll keep you guys updated!

Update***

I attempted to Install FH but I get an error: "You must have at least Battlefield 1942 1.06.101 patch installed to continue with installation."

I'll do some digging around when I get a chance to see if I can trick the installer into thinking I have the correct update. Also if I get some time I'll try and see if I can find an old HDD that has FH installed on it and try to copy over the game files. I'll keep this updated.

It's still available as a free download. I just did it a couple of days ago but I haven't installed it yet, been playing FH from my disk install...on PFC. Brings back some pretty good memories.

Bump, there's a 42 server running for Fragtard, Disc and Origin version can play together on it atm it's at DCfinal but can be set to whatever map/mod

You'll give it a go for 10 minutes and realize just how shitty the netcode was in 2002.

Oh no you didn't. I would link to some videos illustrating BF4's amazing netcode and then say something like "look how far we've come in 12 years" but I won't do that. All's I'll say is don't be dissing the '42. Ever.

I've been playing '42 a lot lately..mainly FH1 but when PFC is empty late at night (central time zone for me), there's always a good bit of people on the server for Disk/Origin. I still enjoy sniping idiots that don't realize to not stand still.

I noticed an increase of popularity for the FH1 server hosted by PFC, have played some rounds on there the last week together with my dad (Didn't stop playing '42 at all )

Anyway, is there a specific mod you guys want to play as all mods can now be hosted for disk and origin version at the same time

Yeah...I've been on PFC's FH1 server a lot lately...it's very full on Saturday's. Enjoying playing and I see a few old wolfer's there too.

Finally got round to getting FH working and had a few rounds, still the best multiplayer game ever!
