Don't drink and fly...

After outfitting for combat I flew over 150LY to meet up with Quick and Jeff who were bounty hunting. Finally got there, and immediately accelerated into an asteroid... I cut the engines but it was too late. I forgot how quick the Clipper accelerated, and this was the first time I'd taken it into an asteroid field... It's easy to forget how big the ship is when you spend most of your time in open space...

Suffice to say I was panicking big time. I hadn't even thought about insurance when I was outfitting it with 3M CR Beam lasers and A class fuel scoops etc. Luckily I had enough... just. This was only my second ship loss in the entire time I've played Elite, including Beta so this hurt my space pride a bit  You can tell how much I'm panicking as if I'd have just thought it through I could have jumped to a neighboring system and I might have made it if the nearest dockable station was close enough. Hindsight is a beautiful thing. May others learn from my mistake ;)

lol I saw the update on YouTube before the post here.

What were you thinking though? You were clearly lined up to hit that thing dead center the entire way.

You must have been looking at another screen or something because there's simply no other excuse lol.

I was just connecting to the stream a couple of seconds before impact.
Lol'ed but at the same time i felt guilty for laughing tho.

Honestly, I'd had a few and I got caught out because I was looking at the radar trying to see if I could spot Jeff... I looked down and my hand must of followed which put me on the collision course. When I looked up again it was too late to do anything to avoid the impact. I just can't believe I got away from it with 1% Hull :icon_eek:

Next thing on the shopping list is an even higher class life support system. Either that or I stick to Tea when playing Elite :icon_lol:

Total loss was around 2million after the rebuy and selling/buying modules. I'll make that up in four one jump trade runs (there and back) so it's not too bad :) At the time though I was panicking because it suddenly dawned on me I might not of had enough for the insurance. I wouldn't have been laughing about it now if I hadn't

I didn't feel guilty for laughing, lol.

And not only were you crashing into the asteroid, you did it with 0% power to systems too, you do know that makes your shields kind of worthless right?

Then you try 'speeding' out of the asteroid field with only 2 pips in engines instead of 4, taking it's extra time too. I can tell you had been drinking, lol.
Well, luckily you had millions worth of guns to make up for your loss, and just about enough for insurance... You're such a Little P at times lol.

Yeah looking back at it sober I realised the catalogue of mistakes I made...

It's a great video on how NOT to fly a large class ship lol

Scary thing is I need to do these trade runs with no insurance, and I'll be doing it with no shields too to make it work, otherwise it'll be another run there and back. I like to spice it up...

I definitely will not be drinking when I do it though

No comment. :icon_cheesygrin:

Asteroid field? Yep. Clipper? Yep. What should I do? BOOST.

I shouldn't laugh. My relaxing trade run last night was interrupted by the terror of getting pulled out of SC by a white dwarf.

If it makes you feel any better I decided to check the System Map in Supercruise heading directly for a star.

Needless to say I got much too close for comfort and had to hit that escape vector (something I didn't even know I had to do) with heat warnings going off.

I got away with just over 100 credits in damage but it was bloody scary to say the least.

So a complete nub heading blind into a giant inferno of burning gas at thousands of degrees celcius got away with 17,000 times less damage then P. did. yeah, that should make him feel better

I feel your pain

I somehow managed to boost my clipper into a freaking nav beacon today....you know....that very small little gizmo in the middle of nowhere... Gone was my 7c shields and 92% of my hull and like 600k repair bill.
I did manage a promotion to Earl today thank someone's God the
imperial Navy did not monitor my flying

p.s.

no alcohol involed in crash

Lol, I love how you steer right towards the asteroid at the start of the video and boost yourself right into it. You weren't even on a ramming course in the first place.

Such a classic P move.

Haha. Watch for the drink, it's ruined my bank balance many a time - though usually for me it's on a trading run. Getting distracted whilst having a T7 with no shields and fully laden with imperial slaves = much pain. Especially if your booster key on the keyboard is the same as one of the chat keys. :|

I am a sissy that always puts the gear down before I go through the mail slot. Otherwise I KNOW that I'd be plating myself on the back wall of the station.
