I wonder if there's any real benefit to this or if it's just a stepping stone on the road of pay to play?

I agree Smack, we pay enough already just to have Hardware Capable of running these games so paying continually to play them is just asking wayyyy too much.

EA are masters at squeezing every single dime out of you that they can so I wouldn't be surprised of Pay to Play isn't on their radar somewhere.

Not only that, you also pay prime € to let them plant spyware on you computers so they
can track you movement and habits to lure you to pay more :D

I bought this POS but it was never installed when i learnde about origin and it will never go
installed either. Just a wrong buy turned into a coaster :(

Ya I agree HaJa but that's the way it's going to be sooner than later. We have Steam, Games for Windows, and Battlelog. It won't be too long before everyone sees what their missing and tracks our every movement via spyware.

It may not be a bad thing if it means we get good DLC but that's the only positive I could ever think of.

...although I do like Steam.

They might do it the same way they've done it in Forza 4.

They announced that they'll do DLC packs, 1 a month for 12 months, they'll always be 520MS points (so around 10 USD) each.

They then released a season pass, which lets you get all that DLC but as one off payment and you get when its released. The cost was about 2 thirds of the total for all the DLC. So if you intended to buy it all, like myself, it works out considerably cheaper to get the season pass.

The Elite subscription for MW3 costs $50.. above the $60 for the game. With that subscription you'll get all the DLC they'll release for the game. They'll release 20 extra maps for it, meaning you'll pay $2.5 for each map. Doesn't seem that bad. I remember though with BF'42, every now and then new maps were included with patches.. whatever happened to that?

As for EA, not surprised they're 'jealous' since it's a good way to get extra money in. As for every commercial company, but especially EA, their main drive is to get more money in. Wouldn't be surprised to see them introducing something like this. Ofcourse you have a choice whether you buy it or not.. but when most of your gaming buddies get it you basically are left with no choice than getting it.
