If you are a fan of turn based strategy games, such as the civilization series, this game will be right up your alley. Although it isn't turn based, the clock runs so slowly that it may as well be.
You only need to buy the base game, not all of the DLC. If you join a multiplayer game running the DLC that you don't have, it "upgrades" you to having that DLC for the duration of the multiplayer game. The vast majority of players don't have all of the DLC, only the host needs it.
