Installing DCS Black Shark and DCS Black Shark Upgrade

You're going to make a start up procedure mission? There are ones for BS1 but not BS2 which you can watch either in Youtube or import into BS2 but they're not intractable. Its one thing I miss from Lockon, interactive training.

FYI all interactable objects in the cockpit have tool tips/pop ups showing what they are and I also thing there is an English cockpit mod somewhere.

You can cheat the start up proceedure...I've not learnt it and probably never will! You can hit LeftWin+Home to start up and LeftWin+End to turn off the engines.

I learnt just through reading about the autopilots/FCS, then looking at that quick start PDF and running the fast mission generator and removing everything apart from civilian vehicles. Its actually not bad compared with the old IL2 quick mission generator.

I really want to learn the full startup eventually and the best way for me to learn it is to make it part of the mission parameters. If I can actually manage it, it's something I can add to every mission I create in the Mission Editor.

I know there are short cuts to start up and do virtually everything with the KA-50 which I'll continue to use until I learn the proper way. IMHO, there's no reason to fly in a sim if you're not going to fly sim at least eventually.

Anyway, I also spend a lot of time in the Mission Editor in ArmA and that's how I find value in the game. I love these Mission Editors so if this one is as robust as ArmA, I'll likely dump hundreds of hours into it.

...between Skyrim, BF3, Arkham City and Dirt 3 of course.

Mondo, I don't know if we covered this but will Black Shark 2 benefit from an install on a SSD over a mechanical drive? My mechanical drives are both Western Digital Caviar Blacks with 64 MB cache.

Yeah, most likely. I've got it on a mechanical drive at the moment but I'll reinstall this weekend with teh new DCS World and put it on my SSD.

I think the long loading times are just a part of the game so there's likely nothing that's going to help there but I'd be interested to hear the difference between mechanical and SSD.

I took a look at where my games were installed...DCS BS2 was on the SSD, A10C was on the HDD. They pretty much took the same time to load up.

I still have Lomac lying around here, in fact i see it right in front of me :)
Does anyone still fly in it?

I wouldn't even know where to begin looking for my LOMAC CD's.

Thanks for the update mondo, it'll certainly save me $200 for at least a little while longer lol. As it stands I need at least one other SSD and and one more 1TB Mechanical Drive.

Lomac's 4th incarnation is about to be released, called Flaming Cliffs 3. Integrates into DCS World and needs a valid Lomac license that is checked before install. You could use your disc for that ...
