Metro Exodus Ray Tracing Issues

So after a few test streams I can confirm that streaming Metro Exodus with Ray Tracing disabled yields both smoother gameplay and smoother streaming.

I'm sure this comes as no surprise to anyone.

Also, I had some really weird issues in night vision with Ray Tracing enabled:

Disabling Ray Tracing completely fixes Night Vision issue:

That's not the only issues with Ray Tracing either. In daylight shadows it can make NPC's nearly invisible as shadows are rendered near black at default brightness in Metro Exodus.

Meet my wife Anna the mutant:

Don't get me wrong, when Ray Tracing works it's a real game changer but when it fails, it fails hard.

I think it's safe to say that Ray Tracing still needs some tweaking but overall it is a great addition. Having said that, at least for me, there are times when you must disable Ray Tracing to make the game visually playable.

I haven't had any of these issues, but I'm also playing with ray tracing on ultra, which may make a difference?

For me it's night and day, I wouldn't go back now. Especially outdoor scenes with a lot of indirect and light scattering look so much more realistic with ray tracing. Of course, I also don't stream, so when I play the full brunt of my computer can be given to the game. That probably makes a difference as well.

I'm still getting 80-100 FPS solid with all ultra, ultra ray tracing, at 3440x1440. This is with a 2080 Ti, which of course also helps.

I never considered Ray Tracing on Ultra making a difference to anything other than amount of effect shown in front of you.

Having said that, I'm not enough of a Ray Tracing expert to speak intelligently on what the quality settings actually do.

I'm hoping it's a bug though because it's sometimes unusable at a this quality as you've seen which begs the question, why have quality settings at all?

Overall though framerate is fine even when streaming with Ray Tracing on (for the most part).

The only issue is that it depends on scene being rendered and when streaming at 60FPS any drop below can be quite obvious. For this reason it's just far simpler to stream without Ray Tracing.
