So, you like shooters.

Are you sure?
Very sure?
Very, very, very sure?

Because 'Hatred' is taking things a step further here...
It's basicly an isometric view mass murder simulator with lots of cinematics and finisher animations. Lots of brutal blood and gore with the emphasis on 'indiscriminate'. No bad guys here, just victims.

For me, this is taking the genre a step too far, but be the judge of that yourself and watch the reveal gameplay trailer (definately 18+);

This is what developer 'Destructive Creations' has to say about their reasons to make this game;

The question you may ask is: why do they do this? These days, when a lot of games are heading to be polite, colorful, politically correct and trying to be some kind of higher art, rather than just an entertainment – we wanted to create something against trends. Something different, something that could give the player a pure, gaming pleasure. Here comes our game, which takes no prisoners and makes no excuses. We say ‘yes, it is a game about killing people’ and the only reason of the antagonist doing that sick stuff is his deep-rooted hatred. Player has to ask himself what can push any human being to mass-murder. We provoke this question using new Unreal Engine 4, pushing its physics (or rather PhysX) systems to the limits and trying to make the visuals as good as possible. It’s not a simple task, because of the game’s non-linear structure and a lot of characters on the screen. But here at Destructive Creations, we are an experienced team and we know how to handle the challenge!
'Hatred' is set to realease on PC quarter 2 2015. I won't be buying, will you?

Erm... nope.

I think I'll pass on this one :icon_eek:

I would love to see a mod released where he shoots rainbows instead of bullets and instead of execution animations he gives them flower, or a cake.

In all seriousness though this does worry me. Even if it does pass certification with all that the trailer shows (which I doubt) it will be an 18. And from my time working in a game retail shop years ago I can tell you with absolute certainty that these games get in to the hands of kids from irresponsible/ignorant parents and older siblings.

As adults you would hope they are able to differentiate between a videogame and reality, but it is quite a different story for impressionable young kids. Not good...

I don't think a video game could cause a lot of damage, no matter how insanely aggressive it is.

It may depend on the amount of immersion that different people experience but I would say that any normal person would still realize at all times that it's just a video game and not an example or incentive in any way.

I have played Carmageddon 2 when I was about 12-14 years old and I enjoyed murdering cows, sheep and people in the most sinister ways (I agree, the graphics were less realistic in such an old game). But I carried none of the violence over into real life. I can only speak for myself of course, I could for example watch a video of someone getting tortured and murdered without it affecting me much while other people faint over some blood.

Of course, I'm not saying that the game should be available to children.

Yep, because you had the tools to deal with being exposed to that content. (Lucky for you, 12 is a young age to play Carmageddon!?)

Unfortunately, there are a lot of kids out there who don't. Even a lot of so-called adults don't...

The trouble with "games" like this is that people can get obsessed with titles like this and that's when the boundaries get blurred... Add that to the crazy hormones flying around and all the other things that people may have to deal with (abusive relationships at school and/or home, self image problems etc. etc.) and you have a perfect storm for someone to go and get Daddy's shotgun/rifle/grenades and go on a killing spree...

Remember Eliot Rodger?

Now tell me this part of his video doesn't sound exactly like the sequence in the trailer for this game.

I'm not saying videogames contributed to this, but do we really want to put games like this out there when they are (insert large number here) of kids out there that are like this?

This game's main theme is not killing for any other reason other than hate, that just doesn't sit right with me.

Movies are a whole different ball game imo, as you are merely an observer. Games put the controls in your hands, you are the one carrying out the murdering and executing. It is stimulating a different part of the brain, and that's the danger here with titles like this.

Just my opinion.

Their just doing it because they know it will cause controversy and they'll make millions as a result. Even bad press is good press, it doesn't even need to be a good game to get discussed virtually everywhere and that's what worries me.

You already have the zealots preaching that video games are likely the demise of modern society (particularly our youth) and they never hesitate to blame gaming for some tragic news headline where someone brings harm to themselves and/or others.

It's typically either video games or Marilyn Manson to blame.

This however is taking it a bit too far. This is just plain indiscriminate killing and would be the one and only title I'd not let my child play and I sensor pretty much nothing.

To be honest, this reminds me of an updated version of Postal really.

No, this is really taking it too far for me and I will have to agree here a lot with Duke.
No matter what kind of publicity something gets, it's publicity nevertheless.

I don't know if anybody's seen the movie Idiocracy, but for those who have:
I have a freaking lot of "ouch-my-balls" moments when I look around me these days :p and the way this game will be talked about, pointed at, reviewed, previewed and most likely even raise political questions will be just another confirmation of that.

On the other side of this medal we have another example in the silly, funny form of: Goat Simulator. So silly it sells. (and still does)

Anyways, I'm skipping on this one.

GTA, Saints Row, etc are still with such a flair that they can be 100% considered as video games. Human kills as "collateral damage". But this "hatred" here is too much on the provoking side for me.

Don't forget that in those days our perception of video games was also completely different. Graphics as they were in Carmageddon were ground-breaking the day they were released.

I can see your point. I don't think a depressive/abusive environment in combination with this video game can do a lot of harm but it might if the child/teen/adult playing it already has a depressed or aggressive mental state. And you only need one among many to create disaster.

One could possibly argue the other side as well. A troubled kid could use a game like this to release his anger in the game instead of doing it in real life. I have no idea if it can work that way though.

When it comes to public shootings, I believe that censuring video games should be one of the last on the list of means of prevention. I can't imagine that playing such a game is a major contributor to pushing somebody over the edge. I agree that it can add to it, but the main causes of psychotic behaviour come from reality.

Very true, yes I see your point too. Far better to let it out in a videogame than in real life.

It's a complicated issue for sure.

On a side note; Man I love having a place to discuss things like this properly with mature minded individuals :)

Well, seems like the devs were kind of blown away by the responses, so they adapted the launch trailer;
