OMSI 2, the omnibus simulator

OK, you might be wondering why I would make a post about a friggin' bus simulator, but I actually found out this is a bus simulator in its truest sense, set in berlin in the 80's/early 90's using real routes from then.

It's actually more of a simulator then ETS2 for example, and If you start up a bus you can forget about driving away for at least 2 and a half minutes, and that's just for free drive without having to set up ticket machines and destination sign.
Visually it's not up there with ETS though. The game is modable and mods are available.

Just to give an impression of what's all simulated:

  • Fully simulated dashboard with functional controls, warning lights and gauges
  • Fully simulated air pressure system
  • Fully simulated destination control panel
  • Fully simulated ticket machine control panel and handling (including selecting the right tickets, ticket printing and giving appropriate change back!)
  • Fully simulated indoor intergrated information system
  • Fully simulated interior heating system and controls
  • Fully simulated door and babyramp system and controls
  • Fylly simulated passenger comfort simulation (not just your driving style influences this, but also interior temperature and giving the wrong change back)
  • Several bus types (included articulated bus)
  • Simulated mechanical brakedowns and accident/ wrong control input damage
  • Possibility for A.I. control
  • Bus washing and refueling
  • Several difficulty modes for several parts of the simulation (for example you can set just the ticket handling to easy)

Just to give you an impression of how in depth the simulation is, I'll list the gauges, lights, switches and buttons you get to watch and play with (it will take you months to memorize the keyboard shortcuts for this, lol) Keep in mind that everything mentioned is working and simulated! (unless I mentioned it's not functional) To use some functions you need to meet requirements to do so or you'll find it either not working or perhaps even damaging your bus.

  • Tachometer
  • Odometer
  • Parkingbrake
  • Key switch
  • Main battery switch
  • Starter
  • Engine off

  • Gear selection (several semi-automatic options including a disengage reverse button)
  • Bus stop brake
  • Front door operation
  • Stop request light
  • Baby carriage switch
  • 8.00 pm button (front door only operation mode)
  • Microphone foot pedal
  • Pressure gauge warning
  • Double Manometer
  • Coolant temperature
  • Fuel gauge
  • Oil pressure gauge
  • Not ready to drive warning light
  • Rear door indicator
  • Parking break indicator
  • Water level indicator (not functional)
  • Oil temperature indicator (not functional)
  • Battery light
  • High beams indicator
  • Turning lights indicator
  • Baby carriage indicator
  • Centralised lubrication system indicator
  • ABS indicator
  • ASR indicator
  • Emergency valve indicator
  • E-gas indicator
  • Auxilliar coolant heating controls
  • Direct retarder
  • Interior light switches (x4)
  • High beams foot pedal
  • Windshield wiper controls (on/off, interval and washer)
  • Fan control
  • Front heater control
  • Interior heater control (heater control includes fan settings, temperature settings, area settings, window defrosting and air intake settings, all functional)
  • Rearview mirror heating (not simulated)
  • Manual engine cooling controls
  • Fog lights
  • ASR switch
  • ECAS/kneeling device warning lights
  • Ramp indicator
  • Bending protection indicator (on articulated bus)
  • Kneeling switch
  • Main switch lifting device and ramp
  • Lifting device rocket switch
  • Bending protection rocket switch
  • Destination display code settings
  • Route display code settings
  • Destination and route display start button
  • Synchronise button
  • Destination display counter
  • Intergrated information display system (with keypad and 9 function buttons)
  • Roof hatches can be opened
  • Almost forgot, you'll also have a steeringwheel, accelerator and brake :p

In other words, this is a pretty in depth simulator for sure... Just the heater alone has more input possibilities then ETS 2 has, lol.

Not sure if I will get this game (it's reasonably expensive on steam at 32 euro), but I might consider it if it's ever on sale. No multiplayer unfortunately. Just wanted to post about it because I was impressed with the plurality of simulation features...
