Practice Pals Oval

It's become increasingly clear that a lot of our YouTube Viewers are interested in Oval Racing as my only race posted is by far the most popular video:

I've received both comments and messages of interest in seeing more of this content on B2O YouTube so with that in mind it's time to Oval up.

However, I'm completely uninterested in Oval so this is going to be a challenge.

I'm going to record every single race (good and bad) and post them to YouTube under a banner to the effect of Oval to A or something similar.

These videos will be easy to make as I'll be capturing at the exact same time I stream to Twitch.

Anyone else interested in licensing up and do you have any suggestions on what path to take?

This means I'll have to skin the Street Stock and whatever other cars I decide to run.

BTW, I want to skip Open Wheel though, not a fan.

Trucks seem interesting though.

Any and all insight appreciated.

Just imagining you doing this...

Good luck Duke. I found the netcode to be atrocious in iRacing Oval. So many blinkers as well which when you are running close together is just a complete nightmare.

I wish you well, and will watch the videos for sure. How about throwing in at least one quote from days of thunder per race as a little easter egg? :D

I've only done oval in the trucks and it is totally just for laughs, one can only take so much "Turn Left", but the bump drafting can be fun :p The few times Bedo, Jay and I have done hosted sessions, we ended up getting kicked out  So I approach oval with a rather lackadaisical attitude. In other words, I'm in if it is for fun. We could try it on Practice Pals one night in a private hosted session just to see how it goes, it could be hilarious :D

Oh, and sorry about last night. I spilled my drink and had to clean it up before it got to my PC  Then Bedo texted and wanted to work on the set up for Saturday, so was trying to get a new set to pass on to the rest of the team.

Man, I wish you luck in this journey. Oval does look to teach different things, but there is no way I can deal with the "Ipacing" that seems to be the majority of the races I see. Not only that, but I'd rather not pay for content I'd rarely use :)

This comes to mind on the topic of Duke doing oval:

are we still doing this? because i did some street stock and trucks today and most of it was pretty good fun. i was thinking about trying my luck in the oval scene but i'm not too sure if i should spend another €100,- on tracks and cars for the season.

but if other B20 members are doing this i'd join. hopefully working my way up to NIS

There wasn't a lot of interest so I thought I'd just do it as time allows.

If there is interest however it may be time for me to wip up a Livery.

i'm planning to fast-track my way up to A from D this week in dirt late model.

i don't think we should bother making a paint for any other car but the monster A class cars (i assume that's our goal).

would be awesome to do it together :)

lol I'm not in the same hurry you are Sam. If I get to A license in the next 5 years I'll be happy.

yeah i understand :)

i just don't own any of the tracks porsche/imsa/protogt drives on next week. and the late model drives on a free track. so it seems like the perfect timing to try and fast track my way up the oval ladder. since i'd only have to make 1 purchase to get all the way to A.

Unless you are 100% sold on oval, the A-car is really just for Carb-cup. It is incredibly difficult to set up and be fast in, especially at big ovals. The B-car is a lot easier to drive due to it's reduced power and natural understeer, while the C-truck is a fun, oversteer-y bastard. Dirt doesn't go higher than B-class either. Also, short ovals seem to be better suited for road-driver cross-overs, due to the ability to get away with depending more on the brakes and less on momentum (sure, you'll burn the tyres off, but the races are pretty short). The D-class Late Models and C-class Super Late Models are a great way to go on the concrete side, and the racing is a lot more fun, imo, than big oval NA$CAR.

BTW, @Sam Roselaar, your signature pisses me off... How'd you get so lucky to be the 666th member of B2O?

A seems most fun to me, i like big ovals more than small ones. i'm willing to spend some time into oval setups but i'm not gonna take it as serious as road racing. as for setups. as long as i just race the ford VRS is my friend :)

i'm pretty set on running A because of the long races in NIS and sprint cup.

and with just 1 purchase (dirt late model) you can fast track all the way up to A.
because you need a B series and dirt has D, C and B

i don't know how i got 666th but i'm damn happy with it :p

All of the NASCAR content is just a body kit. All of the chassis, in a class, are copied and exactly the same, which means you can take an A-class Ford setup and use it on the A-class Chevy/Toyota, a B-class Mustang setup will work on the Camero, and a C-class Silverado setup will work on the Tundra.

The Ford crew is superior to the Toyota gang, and both are miles better than the lame Chevy crowd, so I'd stick with the Ford!

i'm a big fan of japanese cars so i might run the toyota if i can just copy the VRS ford setup.

but is ford really that much better than toyota?

Damn it, Sam! They're the same thing! I was just sarcastically sharing my personal opinion on the individuals that drive each car, just like Top Gear assumes all BMW drivers are assholes, Chevy drivers are just the worst; like a plague.

They all perform exactly equally on iRacing, and, tbf, the new-for-2017 Toyota that iRacing scanned looks sexy AF, so I'll always maintain a little bit of respect for you whether you're in the Ford or the Toyota!

I used to be on an oval team, but I haven't driven oval in over a year. Mostly stuck with the short oval stuff. I would only do NASCAR if it is at a restrictor-plate track (Daytona/Talladega), and even though I own all the dirt content, I'm going to probably hold off on it.

yeah i'm doing oval for the restrictor-plate stuff too :p

i'm using dirt to fast track but it's brain dead and boring if you ask me. (i raced a dirt race while watching youtube at the same time yesterday.....)
hotlapping on a 2-turn track. (there's no 4 turns, so don't argue with me :) )
no close racing either so i'm gonna stop with dirt asap. i just need that C license.

So I'm going to be spending the next week or two trying to get to Oval C license (or more accurately D 4.0) to race the Indy 500 this year. Not sure if this fits in to practice pals oval...but maybe?
