The standard way of operation in the F/G was automatic mode where a "commandogeräte" operated pitch and rpm. Radiators where automatically operated via regulators. The backup was manual mode of pitch and radiators, that mode could also be used during warm-up and take-off but required monitoring in order not to over-rev the engine. The 109 had the advantage that coolers where placed in the propeller stream and thus wasn't as prone to overheating as the spit on ground.
