Super Mod
TL;DR version: It's awesome.
To elaborate;
Well the SSD is performing well and I must say I absolutely love Windows 10. The PC is running great and being able to experience the DX12 games running at 60fps+ in 1440p is a real treat. Going from windows 7 and a HDD to windows 10 and an SSD I have really noticed the difference not just in boot/load times but also in the performance of games. I got a significant fps boost in all my games. Now it's entirely possible to run games in 4K DSR at around 60fps, and they look incredible. The latest AAA titles I'm still getting between 40-60fps which with G-Sync is great because you don't notice the drop in fps. This is ok for slower paced games but for fast moving games I prefer to drop it down to 1440p @165Hz and get up to the steady 165fps mark.
The first DX12 title I played was the updated DX12 version of Rise of the Tomb Raider. I must admit, I was a bit dissapointed as nothing jumped out at me to tell me I was playing a DX12 game vs the DX11 version. I did take into consideration this game wasn't built from the ground up with DX12 in mind though. However, one thing I did notice was the significant boost in frame rate. I went from low 30's in 4K (everything up as far as it would go) to between 50 and 60fps. That's an impressive jump. I'd read about how DX12 seemed to give much better frame rates for this game but I was doubtful of the claims. Well I can confirm it really does improve the framerate. I used to play this in 1440p to get the higher fps but now I can play it in 4K and enjoy the extra fidelity that brings. So in this regard I was impressed at the gains enabled with the DX12 version.
Two games that have impressed me lately are Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, and Forza Motorsport: Apex. Both these titles just look incredible. I played Gears a lot on the Xbox 360 and it looked good on that limited system, but to play it in 4K with the 4K textures (6gb minimum Vram required!! ouch...) enabled is just a sight to behold, and it runs great too. DX12 has really impressed me so far not just with how the games look, but also how they run so well pushing that many pixels.
The real stand out title so far for me though is Forza Motorsport: Apex. I have played all of the Forza games on the original Xbox, the Xbox 360 and Xbox one. To play a Forza game on the PC is an absolute treat, and holy **** does it look good. Easily, by far and away and without a shadow of a doubt the best looking game I have ever seen by a country mile. It beats Project Cars in the looks department which is no mean feat.
Using the wireless Xbox One controller for the PC is so nice when you just want to relax and play a driving game. Forza has always had the best feeling controls, almost as good as a wheel and pedals in terms of the control you have over the vehicle. No other driving game has ever come close to how Forza feels with a pad, not even Gran Turismo. For it to also have the haptic feedback on the triggers on the PC version like it does on the Xbox is fantastic. You can really feel what the car is doing through the rumble motors and the haptic feedback on the brakes and acceleration. This is something you just can't get through a wheel and pedal setup. Absolutely brilliant.
Windows 10 is also a pleasure to use overall. I like all the new features, and the integration with Xbox is very good. Windows 10 has an inbuilt DVR to record games which works very well indeed, and if it's a windows store game you can share the clips to the xbox live service which is a nice feature to have if you play on the PC and Xbox One. The whole xbox live experience is great, I can have both my PC and Xbox on and just switch seamlessly from one to the other depending on who wants to play and when, with no break in connectivity. For anyone who plays on both a console and a PC this is a fantastic feature.
Overall, I'm very glad I upgraded, there have been no compatibility issues with any of my software or hardware (Logitech G29 works fine, as does the X52 Pro and the Corsair CUE software works flawlessly) and I'm very pleased with the performance boost and access to DX12 games.
If anyone was on the fence about upgrading, I'd thoroughly recommend it, I just wanted to share my experience for the benefit of others to perhaps help with your decision.
