Wireless headsets reviewed - Venom XT+ and Logitech G933

I initially invested in some Corsair Void limited edition cans which I was disappointed with. The sound quality was terrible, the highs were muffled and there was no bass whatsoever. Also the mic was a rigid system and attached so no way of removing it. I went for these because I have a Corsair Strafe RGB keyboard and a Corsair Vengeance M65 RGB mouse and the Void headset would go with those nicely as the RGB lighting can all be linked together using the same software. Bad idea.

I tried a set of Astro A50's round a friends house and they were great, but at £250 they should be!

I decided to try an unknown brand that I found for £40 after reading this review:

I am seriously impressed. The sound is fantastic, I can hear no difference between these and my wired Creative Fatality headset (which were great) and they work flawlessly. There was some talk of a "humming" noise but I understand that was ironed out with a firmware update and these definitely don't suffer with that. There is hardly any hissing which a lot of wireless headsets have (the Corsair Void's suffered from this badly) and the 30mm driver for the vibration complements the main audio driver perfectly. I used to have a pair of turtle beaches that had this vibration feature and they were great (until they broke) so I really missed them when they got smashed in a house move. It really gives the cans a deep resonating bass that I only heard with the Astro A50's (which are £210 more expensive!).

These Venoms are perfect for the Vive as it frees you from the headset cable, and they are extremely comfortable. Lots of features too.

All in all I can't believe these cost just £40, I can only guess the guys at Venom are making very little money or even a loss to get the brand name out there. By the way the mic is detachable with a standard 3.5mm jack so you can use any mic you want. I'm using the mic from my Creative headset as it's a bit more compact. That's just personal preference though.

They are that good I had to share here. I've tried several headsets recently and am astounded that the Venoms more than match the Astro's so if you are looking to go wireless, I can't recommend these enough.

Well, as good as these are I decided I needed a separate pair just for the Vive. I have been having a lot of people coming round wanting to try it out so I felt I needed a separate pair of wireless cans for the guest users. So I went and bought myself a pair of these for my personal use only:

Equally as impressive as the Venoms, the only difference being the battery charge lasts longer and they are definitely more comfortable. I could wear these for hours on end whereas the Venoms need adjusting every hour or so. Not a big deal really but definitely something I noticed straight away. And the G933's have fully configurable RGB lighting. I love me some RGB lighting! I know I know, but I really love having full control over the colours and style of lighting for all my peripherals. One thing I really like about the G933's is they have 3 programmable keys on the left can, which is great for when I'm in VR I have set one of these keys to be a shadowplay "record that" key. Nvidia Shadowplay is set to record the last 20 minutes of gameplay when I hit Alt+F10. That was obviously a pain in VR so now I can just reach to my left ear and bam, it's done. Perfect.

The Venoms are great for short bursts but are basic feature wise so they fit the requirements for me to use as a set of wireless cans for others to use when trying the Vive perfectly. And they are so cheap I don't have to worry about damage or anything while people are dodging bullets etc. in VR.

My recommendation still stands for the Venoms, although if you are willing to spend a bit more the G933's are a massive step up in terms of features and comfort. Sound wise the Venoms really show their value for money as there really isn't much difference between them and the G933's, with the G933's having a slightly crisper bass response and a clearer top end. The G933's really pull ahead in 7.1 mode however, and with Dolby DTS Headphone X activated it's like sitting in an IMAX theatre. Very impressive.

Two great headsets for two different budgets, both highly recommended.
