What topic were you replying to when the site hung?

I need to know the exact url you were on when you received the message.

I have no idea dude but whatever... don't bust your brain trying to fix it. You got better things to do. If it only happens once in a while it's no biggie at all.

Well thanks again for the heads up. I'll try a few more setting changes and see if that is the issue but it looks like we're kinda stuck where we currently are as I've made no code changes at this point.

I'll likely disable adsense for a week or two and see if that helps alleviate the issue. I know sometimes if google hiccups it can bring a site to its knees when it comes to page load speed.

I just got an email from Rolfy as well with this problem.
He's also using IE 9.0.8 and he tried to reply to our arma2 event thread when it froze for him.
I'm running Firefox with adblock (didn't realize until now that you had ads here lol).
I suspect the ads. If any site I've been to freezes or behaves badly it's 99% chance that the ad-server is the problem (statistics extracted from the top of my head and is thus a very reliable source ;))

I'll try doing something about the ads but that is going to take some time as I need to install a usergroup ad removal mod to do it. This won't happen anytime soon I'm afraid simply because its very low on my current To Do List.

I have one client who's site has been injected with javascript and black flagged by google because of it. I'm going to be busy with this guys site for the next 2 - 3 weeks minimum. Then I have to tackle the Download Section because we'll need it for FT, 332 and Bracer.

That being said, it's going to be 4 - 5 weeks before I can do anything about the ads.

Is there any way you can please ask Rolfy to use another browser for now such as Chrome or FF?

It appears that there are numerous issues with IE and vBulletin and just as many possible solutions.

Is Rolfy using any addons in IE, it could be one of them is incompatible with vB?

Aside from that, I've disabled "Force IE browsers to render in their latest version" so it will be interesting to see how this affects IE users.

I believe there is a way for IE to report any script errors by setting it in Tools/Internet Options/Advanced (or somewhere similar). Perhaps this will help point to the particular issue assuming of course its a local vBulletin, Adsense or 3rd party addon script that is causing the issue.

I've suggested Chrome and FF to him and he may switch (haven't spoken with him after last time). I'll let you know if he switches and what his experiences are.

Rolfy not being able to read the forum is a shame.

I think the new vBulletin software is not the best version they have released. It is dog slow and has lots of issues with text input, too. Never saw that in the old versions.

2 suggestions:

* can we have more smileys like we had in the old forum? :aok and an aeroplane would be nice.
* can you add the forum to tapaware? It's a very nice app for reading forums on an Android device like my Samsung Galaxy S2.

I agree that 4.x series is not that great but from an SEO standpoint, its there best yet. Its nice not to have to shell out another 70 bux for the scam artists at vbseo.

It does take up more server resources but its not slow by any means. If its slow for you then we have another issue to investigate because I'm having no speed issues at all.

The text input is buggier than h3ll, I do agree, especially when trying to add images inline.

As for your suggestions:
  1. Many more smilies and post icons on the way. It just is not a high priority at this time as there are many other aspects of this site that need to be dealt with first.
  2. I don't have a clue what tapaware is? I can enable a mobile version of the forum but since I don't have a mobile device I will need all of you to test it.
I don't know why Rolfy is having problems because I have none with IE in either 64 bit or regular. This is why I've asked if he can use another browser as I just cannot re-create any of the reported issues locally.

I have read numerous reports over the past few months about users having issues with IE/vB on many other sites and have tried all the suggestions I've found; none of which seemed to work here.

I will be creating an ad free template for you all to try because I'm wondering if adsense has something to do with the issue?

I just want to specify that Rolfy can read the forum just fine. The freeze comes when he's trying to reply to posts (like joining our event and tell us about it for instance).
Not sure if that helps in any way to identify the source of the problem?

Unfortunately it doesn't really help that much at all I'm afraid. Does the site actually just freeze and return a white page, a partial page, some text/no text or is there a particular error message that pops up when he tries to reply?

Most of the time the Quick Reply doesn't work correctly for me if I don't hit the "Reply to Thread" button first. Maybe Rolfy can try that.

That's interesting, what is it that the Quick Reply is or isn't doing?

There is something fundamentally wrong with the WYSIWYG's on this site and it's most certainly a vBulletin issue. There is another vBulletin update available and I believe it addresses some issues with the WYSIWYG's.

If so, I'll likely perform yet another upgrade in the very near future.
