The Witcher 1

Anyone played through this? I started it but basically didn't get much past the first big fight when your castle is attacked. The voiceover work is pretty bad, and the combat is just...bleh. The control scheme isn't great.

Just wondering if the game improves and/or has a really kickass story as you go along. Also, if anyone's played #2 or #3, whether playing the first game is really essential or improves the overall experience.

You don't need to play any of the previous Witcher titles to understand The Witcher 3.

More to your question though, The Witcher 1 was simply amazing (I thought) but I played it when it came out. I know it's dated and when compared to TW3, it's downright ugly.

There was some truly jaw dropping moments in it though!

I'm a bit biased though because I LOVE THIS DEVELOPER!!! They actually give a shit about their audience and do their best to learn from mistakes while considering Community input.

I think they're one of the best developers out there today.

I think The Witcher was CDProjektRED's first title so considering that they truly did an amazing job. If you look at the progression of where they were to where they are it's been a massive transformation in a relatively short amount of time.

Well I don't have, and am not sure I could even run, The Witcher 3, but I think I have the second one.

I'm basically wondering if the first game is worth it for the bad voice acting and weird and mildly annoying combat system. If it is, then I'll give it a go. If not, then screw it, I'll just play the 2nd one.

I think the first one is better than the second one personally.

The Witcher 2 is a quantum leap in nearly every category except it feels a bit corridor to me and there are some sections that were truly annoying.

I felt there was better balance in The Witcher.

Incidentally The Witcher 2 is pretty graphic intensive so it'll likely be a lot harder on your system than the original.

I've got a state-of-the-art c. 2010 rig, so it tends to run most stuff that's from that point up until about 2014 pretty well. I can't always turn on all the bells and whistles for every game, but I can run them pretty well.

It was really this year and the sea change brought on by new console generations that started to make my system graphically behind the times and unable to do the heavy lifting. For example, I returned Arkham Knight because my rig wasn't powerful enough (and because I heard it was crap even on powerful enough rigs, due to the well publicized issues). I doubt I'll get it when it's re-released because I question whether I'll be able to run it even with the graphics dumbed down to, say, Arkham Origins levels (if that's even possible).

But all that said, I should be able to run The Witcher 2 just fine.

Witcher 1 is a great game so far about 3/4 through. Plus don't you want to bang all the whores is each zone. The combat takes a bit getting use too, but once you figure it out the timing and switching from normal to silver sword it makes sense.

Meh. That stuff doesn't really motivate me. I'm getting married in November, and expecting my first kid in March, so, it's not like I don't get to bang pretty much whenever I want. :)

Right now you're engaged to a woman but trust me, you're marrying your hand.
