Fallout 4 Mods

I guess war does change. When a modder changes it.

Wanted to throw this thread up to discuss any modding for Fallout 4. I don't plan to experiment until I beat the game at least once or twice, but once I do that I will use tons of different mods. I honestly can't wait to see what people can add to the settlement system, let alone everything else.

Howard was quoted as saying the GECK (editor) won't be released until early 2016 but it won't stop modders from doing some modding early on. It's also known they won't use Steam's workshop to distribute mods / content, but instead, bethesda.net

Anyway, if you find any or want to talk about mods, do it here! Share what you've found and if you like it.

My god could he sound more boring?

The only time i laughed was at the ending.... and it was because of the Duke reference..

What i'd like to see is some sort of inventory removal for Dogmeat, because how the hell are you going to fit a Minigun in an alsatian?
(Inb4 anus jokes)

The inventory could be kept if they added some sort of saddlebags to him tho. Imho it's immersion breaking when i open up his inventory and see there's things in there that are bigger than the actual "container".

to behonest, i never even listened to him, only watched through the mods and clicked on the mod links themselves from his video's description.

I agree on the inventory for dogmeat, but it's as believable as being able to carry multiple weapons, a minigun, a missile launcher and a fat man. Not to mention all the ammo you can ever find because it has no weight, so it's whatever.

I maybe haven't come across it yet, but is there really no armor (and like you said "saddlebags" [pocketed armor]) for dogmeat at all? Maybe I've not tried or found anything but I'd have thought they included K-9 type armor and stuff. Or other wearables.

My dog is wearing light armor (with a convenient handle for carrying him around like a bag), a spiked collar, and a spiked muzzle guard, or whatever it's called. It is out there!

Here's my dog:

Well up until now i found a red bandana and a chainlink collar for Dickwad, so i think it's just aesthetic wearables to be honest.

Out of all the things you listed one would be unhandy but not impossible.
I for one wouldn't come near a fatman let alone fire it if it existed...

Carrying a minigun and other weapons at the same time can also be done.... Arnie did it!

hahaha carry him around like a bag. Is it specific dog armor as in the item is called that and all?

There was a sort of real inspiration for the fat man. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Davy_Crockett_(nuclear_device)

In fairness, nuclear power and everything nuclear related is more advanced in their timeline than theirs. And they have the ability to heal radiation and all. So I'd fire one!

Yes,it has specific names; he has currently light dog armor, spiked dog collar, and spiked muzzle, so yeah it is dog specific :) Also, the dog armor seems to have an upgrades slot, but I can't use the regular armor workshop for it, so either I miss some skills, or there might be something specific to find in the game perhaps?

Interesting. Thanks Shilka. I'd have guessed it went with the Attack Dog perk and maybe also required armorer perk? But attack dog perk says nothing about armor or anything else like that.

Was more thinking there might be an NPC dog armorer in the game or something like that? Or perhaps there isn't and most of the dog stuff is just visuals. Or perhaps you can pull an upgraded armor from some attack dog somewhere (iirc thats how I got this armor in the first place)

btw, he can also wear welding goggles. Also putting a teddybear in his inventory will have some results too.

Totally agree. I know it might sound silly to some but when I first met Dogmeat and realized I could give him a rusty clipboard and god knows how many coffee cups it totally turned me off the game. Broke any immersion it had built up at that point and just pulled me out of the game.

lol'd at the inb4 anus jokes comment btw :icon_lol:

Eh. I said already... it's an RPG. You can already carry a ridiculous amount of crap. Same sort of thing. I read people were pretty pissed they'd shoot an enemy in the head and he didn't die straight away from the headshot.

I know I've been a fallout fanboy for years (and bethesda in general) so I can easily look past it but the game came from a turn-based top down RPG and the transition creates a unique game. Maybe it is odd for me to have my dog carry a spare missile launcher, my minigun and other crap, but it's just as ridiculous as my character being able to carry both those heavy guns at the same time.

If that's a problem, simple solution, don't give your dog stuff XD Thats the great thing about rpg based games, you can play them according to your own rules.
Please tell me you have the imagination and self control to do stuff like that in RPG's instead of wanting the game to be limited to your specific liking. It's singleplayer!

That's the great thing about games like fallout 4. You can play it without building setttlements if you don't like that! You can choose strength=1 if you don't want to be able to carry lots of stuff. You can ignore the whole storyline and just go on a killingspree and live off of radroach corpses if you like. You can give your character a personality that influences your decisions ingame. You can act like you're donald duck in a wasteland. You can play the game without a head even. And yes, you can choose to not give your companion anything to carry. All it needs is you to roleplay a bit.

Next to that, a dog carrying stuff turns you off a game, but jumping up a 30 feet ball in a sombrero wearing car is perfectly acceptable? LMAO!
(Don't take this last remark too seriously P, you know I luv ya!)

lol I knew I'd get flak for that from the flawout fanboys.

I get that you can self limit yourself etc. etc. but when I play a singleplayer game I like to immerse myself in that world. I like it to be believable (the rocket league comparison is just for comedy value I know as we both know it's not meant to be anything other than a crazy game that's actually, you know, fun... not a bloody RPG game for gawd's sake :p).

Giving my pet Alsatian a rocket launcher to carry, that has somehow become invisible, along with yes, being able to carry a shed load of stuff is a complete turn off for me. It's something that has come about recently with me, I've discovered I like realism in my single player experiences, it's the reason I'm looking at a lot of other types of games at the moment but not really finding what I'm looking for because I'm kind of looking for something else than what is on offer right now.

The whole "you can carry whatever you want up until a certain point that is defined by a number" and "hey you can give all this shi* to your dog too who by the way can't die" is kind of dumb to me. That's not flawout's fault really I suppose, it's a whole game mechanic I just don't like and it's come about post Skyrim.

There was a video recently I think Iron put up where he pickpocketed someone's power armour and the guy just stood there repeating his pre defined lines like nothing happened. That to me, while funny, is lazy game design.

Maybe I'm asking too much from games, but when you have to "pretend" a game mechanic isn't there to make the game better then that's a problem in game design for me.

But hey, listen, I'm glad you guys are enjoying/enjoyed it, I'm really not trying to poo poo it. I'm just giving you my opinion and insight into why I didn't like it that's all. If we all liked the same thing this place would be pretty boring eh.

I refrained from making the rocket league conncetion, but I knew someone was going to bring it up. Perfect. I may or may not include that in my signature.
lol Rocket League isn't the only game I play, it's just an easy target. Rocket League is a bit of fun, it's not meant to be a single player RPG that I want to be immersed in. Bit of a stretch to compare them really isn't it. I know Shilka is only doing it to push my buttons and I'm trying very hard not to :p

If you want realism Little P, have you ever looked into Falcon BMS? Not sure if you're into flight sims, but they just released a new update to it (4.33) and Dino has gotten back into and I'm very tempted to dust off my flight stick. Actually I'll create a thread about the new update now.

Well, let me try to get my point across more seriously then.

Let's get back to RPG, yes, it's a game where you can play a role. It involves your imagination, there fore I think that solutions that require you to imagine things are acceptable. Combine it with open world, and, if combined with some imagination, you'll almost by default have a gem of a game to lose yourself in.

All the devs need to do is make a framework of things to do, or not to do if you choose so. It's the beauty of open world games that are well made. It will give you plenty of things to do, while trying as little as possible to make those things mandatory.

Why change the dog to something that can carry nothing, if you can choose to give it nothing, leaving the option for it to carry stuff open to others that would like to do so? Do you really need the game to force you to play a certain way, while the option for you to do so voluntarily is fully open to you?

To be honest it's not immersion breaking to me to play by my own rules. just like in skyrim, where I have never healed myself mid battle with potions, but have always forced myself to run away to safety, then heal.

IMHO, a good open world RPG (based) game, has lots of options, which you can use, or choose not to use.

Anyway, if your imagination and willpower don't cut it, there's always mods I guess.

To some extend I understand the hang to realism though, as in many genres realism has been dumbed down to, well, below rock bottom. Shooters where you start auto healing as soon as you don't get shot anymore, you name it. I still remember those earliest RPG's, where if you died, that was it. No respawn, autosaves, no nothing, just the 'start (new) game' button...

Yeah realism in most mainstream games, anything short of an actual sim is dead. I get your point but I can pick apart dozens and dozens of games for terrible inaccuracies that were shortcutted for gameplay reasons.

You posted a thread earlier on Assassins creed and said you played black flag. I couldn't play that for more than ten minutes after I realized the "sailing" was more a motor boat with pieces of cloths on top. It was absolutely terrible... the wind almost had no effect, the ships turned on a dime. It couldn't be any more unrealistic as to how sailing actually works. And that was a mainstay (no pun intended if you know sailing terms) of that game!

And don't take this as a personal attack. Just a lively, interesting discussion between friends! That's what the forums are for, right?

Also, how's my sig now?
