iRacing Practice Pals in 2016

Good job in that race last night Ken.

I only ran a couple of practice laps last night in the Bmw but it felt pretty good getting around there on baseline. More than likely to run it tomorrow night in League (If Iracing holds up).

I think it's one of the better cars this week, I see what you're saying with straight line speed but braking zones and 3rd, 4th gear turns it smokes whats out there on 4 wing. Real trick is coming out of the last corner as flat foot with a good line that seems what messes me up the most.

Whoa Ken raced??? Who had the gun to his head?

JK how did it go?
He qualified 4th as the #4 car and finished 3rd behind Nathan Shartner and Victor Tanaka who were just stupid quick.

I also raced with ken in the #15 car started 9th and finished 9th. Coulda finished much better but I had a few offs through the race :icon_redface:

I'm running my Zolder set Davey with 0 wing right now and some minor tire pressure changes. I shared the set with Carlos last night (can't believe Carlos actually asked for my setup lol) so my guess is he'll tune it into something much faster.

It's definately quick but out of the corners the Ruf is impressive here, very impressive. The Ford was actually quite quick as well and decimated me in the first hairpin.

Yes I finally ran a race to put the naysayers to rest because it's Phillip Island and one of my favorites.

...apparently word got around as last night was one of my most popular iRacing Streams to date

I think you did great ID and I thank you for jumping in the race with me at a moments notice.

I'm even happier the fuel calculations worked out. I must admit to being a bit worried after seeing how far the Ruf I was racing fell back.

19 cars registered, it was at a time of the night that would probably be too late for most east coasters and even some on the west end of NA and a bit too early for the Aussies to start hopping in.

I forgot to even see how much fuel I had left over at the end of the race. I actually don't think your fuel calculations were too bad for me. I got the 5 lap warning as I got the white flag so it made a difference of what 8ish liters?

I was in that race. Lap two I threw down a 1:29 and was like, "oh yea, it's on!". Lap three I dropped a tire off on corner exit and died when I collected the Ruf behind me in my feeble attempt to save the inevitable. Good goin, Ken and Jerad!

I was a little worried that Ruf was going to kill me at some point watching him battle with you. But then you ended up taking him out for me!

lol, Team Racing Band of Others style.

@Nim Cross, if you happen upon this topic somehow, nothing to see here, keep moving. :)

I finally made a decision and bought Iracing. Subscribed for 2 years (the max) at 50 percent promo, i payed 90 euro's.
I was looking for a launcher but the thing starts up with your web browser, this already feels weird. I hope i feel right at home once i get into the cockpit.
I will try first and then buy Spa, Zolder and Nords and some cool cars like Lotus 49 and 79, maybe a Ford GT40 or some GTR racer like Corvette. Not sure yet. What are u guys driving in this practise pals thingy or Blancpain? What are your favorite cars and tracks. Hope to see u soon on track.

Nice, another iRacer in the making!

Those tracks are a good pick, the cars you mention are not that popular though, except for the Corvette. But the Lotus 49 is incredibly fun to drive :D

In Practice Pals we usually drive GT3 cars, so the BMW Z4, McLaren MP4-12C, Ruf Track, Ford (RIP) and in two weeks the Mercedes AMG and Audi R8 LMS. We also use GT3 cars in the Band of Others Blancpain league.

The website thing takes a little to get used to but it's basically a launcher, like you said, and a database with all the stats and results of events. Eventually they want to get rid of the website and get it all in one application.

Awesome! Glad to have another iRacer.

Noel did a great job summing everything up. GT3 is definitely the most popular road series. Other popular series around here among a few of us is the skip barber.

Let us know if you need a rundown of some of the various mechanics like licence levels, promotions, iRating, safety rating, etc. It can be confusing at first

As Noel said, we're normally running GT3 cars for Practice Pals. For tracks, I'd recommend you check the schedules of the series you're interested in. For example, no point in getting Zolder (unless you want to run it solo test sessions) since it's not being run in GT3 this season.

Here's a quick overview of the schedule someone on the iRacing forums made:

OK thanks for the info. I did not drive 10 meters yet but i already bought Spa and the Lotus 49 and 79.
I have no idea what classification i need to actually race these but i could not resist. My Iracing account is worth nothing to me without this content. If u guys know of an easy way to see what requirements one actually needs to drive a certain car, let me know.
Also, i am looking at Sweet FX, once i know i have sufficient fps and detail on all tracks, i will install sweet FX, but i am unsure what to use and how to install. If someone knows without looking it up, feel free to explain.

Hell Yeah Jeeve! I knew it was only a matter of time! Now I just need to get AC. Can't wait to turn some laps with you! I have a feeling you're going to pick this up quick just by watching some of your videos. Reaction time is pretty impressive from what I've seen in your Dirt Rally videos!

Thanks for the kind words Davey. I just tested at Spa and i felt right at home in the Lotus 79. Iracing feels a lot like Rfactor, but i think Iracing looks better and higher frames, at least it feels like that , my monitor only shows 60 fps so must be in my mind. It defo looks better, also the sound of the Lotus 79 is amazing. Driving around in the 2.13's at Spa. Lotus 49 is a whole other world and hell at high speeds, it wants to take off and fly. Not a fan, yet.
But i already love the Lotus79, get it !

BTW: If u are used to Iracing or Rfactor: AC might feel a bit numb, its not a hardcore Racing sim but it can be lots of fun and it looks great. Try the McLaren M23 form AC club, also Lotus 72D from the dreampack is nice. Seems i just love my legendary F1 cars hey.
