B2O Eve Online anyone?

Hey guys,

Thought I'd just throw out a quick feeler to see if anyone is interested in checking out Eve Online. I thought it might be fun if there were a few of us from the B2O community. Maybe even form a, 'B2O Corp'.

I used to play Eve pretty diehard back in 2008-2010. Well I say diehard, but I was more, 'Carebear diehard', for anyone even familiar with Eve terminology..lol

For those of you who may not know Eve is a MMORPG based on Science Fiction. The game has evolved a ton since it was released back in I believe 2003. Its developer is CCP based out of Reykjavik, Iceland. For me to describe everything Eve is would take too much time, needless to say Eve is huge and there is quite a bit you can do.

Eve does require a subscription. The base sub per month is $15 USD, however you can pay less based on subbing for a longer period of time. Eve does offer a 14 day free trial without requiring a credit card.

Like I said, if there were a few of us from the community interested in taking part in Eve it could be a lot of fun. I of course would be signing back up with my old character who IIRC still has plenty of iskies, ships and other, 'commidities', that I'd be more than willing to help new players out with. Because Eve has changed so much since I played back in 2010, I'd also be somewhat new as well with learning all the new features and added
game content.

Anyway if you want to learn more about Eve, you can go to www.EveOnline.com.

Cheesy Eve Citadel video below for shameless advertising.

Used to play way back when. My char is from '05 so you can imagine how many skills / skillpoints I have.

I played religiously from 05'-12 with a few breaks in between. Started out carebear empire stuff, moving to Pvp corps, to finally null with the rise of goons. Lived for a while in period basis, right alongside goonswarm, until relocating after a while to morsus mihi in tribute, made tons of money with one of my favorite parts of the game, scanning down wormholes and ded complexes, plexes, etc.

It was an extreme time sink. playing in null involved hours of my day, at one point I ran quite a few fleets as FC, I flew quite a few capital ships, involved in many sieges and large battles. But there's no going back. It's too much time. You have to keep maps and maps on you to consult, you have to be prepared, have spies / alts, the addition of cash to isk kinda ruined it even more.

It's a great game in it's own right. The in-game economy is second to none. I've never seen anything more in-depth, from top to bottom, as Eve's economy. Supply and demand isn't just simulated, it's fully functional and fueled only by the players.

Not to mention the meta game that I'm sure anyone who's heard of EVE knows about- the spying, thieving, player-made backstories are also second to none. The universe is awesome and CCP did great to create an entire world that can be controlled and truly shaped by the players. Other games try to do so, but EVE is the only one that has.

There's a number of inherit issues with EVE, disregarding the fact that it's a timesink. Skill training being one of them. New players are at a complete disadvantage to diehards, because skill training takes time, not actual training, and so you'll never catch up to someone like me who has played since '05.

A number of other issues they've created since release, like solo and small gang warfare used to be prevalent when I started and was extremely fun. Now fighting with anything smaller than a 100 ship fleet is suicide. Solo warfare is dead aside from stupid stealth ships and whatnot. The addition of logistics ships is chief among the issue.

Most warfare now is fleet warfare, which is extremely boring. Nothing like a non-eve player would expect.

Oh god. I've been considering subbing again. There were a few changes recently I really did not like, like jump cloning is no longer a thing so finding each other might not be the easiest. But if we do, there is a pretty neato war going on against Goonswarm and the CFC and I probably have some connections with TEST still.

There is quite a bit of a learning curve to the game and it requires a ton of teamwork. It's been some time since I played so I'd have to shake off a bit of rust as well.

Oh wow, I'd no idea they did away with jump clones. I did read something the other day about the goons ganking in Jita. The politics in Eve are always interesting. I remember being around during the whole scandel with Bob.

Closest I've been to taking part in Sov space was when we were allowed in Providence.

Eve can surely be a timesink. I guess it really depends on what you choose to do. Last time I resubbed, I want to say around 2012, I ran some missions, built some ships etc. Back in the, 'day', I used to run multiple accounts and made quite a bit of isk. I'm not set up for that anymore.

And yes, there is quite the learning curve. I guess for me, thats part of what makes Eve enticing.

Dl'ing the client now. Figured I'd take a peek around, see whats new.

If any of you do decide to sign back up, join as a newby etc, my chars name is Taebris. He's stationed in Khanid, which last I knew was a pretty quiet system and about 10 or 15 jumps from Amarr and about 25 or so from Jita.

Yea iirc you also don't have to pay for clones anymore so no more loss of SP.

with my luck I am probably mid warzone with nothing but a T3 or a carrier in my hangar...

Maybe I'll have to harass some buds, I know a bunch of them were gatecamping on the weekend which can be some good laid back PvP. My main character is underthebar.

Also I joined Eve prettymuch just in time for this:

Best war ever. We had 1400 Drakes in a system camping a gate at one point.

Oh before Jeeve79 gets the 14 day trial. I think with an active account you can generate a 28 day trial for people and if they sub you get a free month of sub iirc.

I sent him an invite and he got a 21 day trial. I thought CCP had it at 30 days. <shrugs>

Also, apparently he was having difficulty getting past putting his pants on in the character creation tool and couldn't move forward to start the game. The solution if anyone else has this issue is to simply restart the character creation tool.

If you're coming over from Rust, you'll need to be fully clothed before entering Eve. Not everyone wears monocles ya know.....haha
