iRacing Livery Sponsors

When skinning vehicles for Band of Others, this is always one of the areas that consumes a lot of time as I've mostly no idea of what real-world sponsors are supposed to be on these vehicles year on year?

To dumb the issue down, for GT World Challenge (GT3 spec racing), Pirelli is the tire partnership but for IMSA, I believe it's always Michelin.

When I make a new skin I'd love this to be as accurate as possible so I view hundreds of images over multiple search strings which takes many hours. The 2027 Band of Others BMW M4 GT3 is based on many images from all Teams in GT World Challenge Europe, mostly settling on Team WRT. It took time to come up with the BMW Motorsport sponsor as I want the largest image (1000 px image if I can get it, preferably vector but often settle for transparent background .png) as they scale the cleanest and allow for layering of both black and white versions.

Editing the BMW Motorsport made sense as Team WRT (for example) only race BMW so this one sponsor can cover all BMW's if I so desire.

Currently I have seperate folders for B2O such as B2O Branding and B2O Sponsors (community Focused such as Fanatec, Logitech G, Track IR, Socials). I also have a folder specific to Drivers and have you all included so I can just enable/disable Driver names and manipulate placement as needed.

These are a Godsend and what I hope to do for all branding going forward.

...but I need your help as my knowledge and time is very limited.

An example of what I left off the BMW M4 GT3 are sponsors such as Rowe, brembo, H&R, Turner, Liquid Moly, and a whole host of others.

I'd love these identified under GT3 or IMSA and included in seperate folders on every livery going forward, it makes skinning so much quicker and easier.

Laslty, equipment used in the Community, are there any updates on what you want to see on the car? Here I'm also a bit weak as Fanatec is now Corsair. Having said that, I watch GT World Challenge Europe and know many drivers are sporting Fanatec Wheels like Valentino Rossi so I can't see adding Corsair to the liveries but I just don't know for sure?

Double lastly, I can save these files on there own and make them publicly available as well should the B2O Community require them.

Any input deeply appreciated.

iRacing Base Paint Guide
Selecting the proper base paint in the iRacing Paint Shop can change the car's Number Font, Number Location, and LED Board location. IMSA locates their LED Boards on the side of the car, SRO locates their LED boards in the windshield. The BMW M4 GT3 has no LED Boards available, that I could find.

GT World Challenge - America
Partners
Front Corners: Pirelli / KW (Top/Bottom, Side-by-Side, orientation and order do not matter, but usually KW on top, Pirelli on bottom.)
Windshield: "GT WORLD" on black

* Technically including this logo violates the iRacing TOS due to promoting another studio's racing game within the iRacing sim. I have yet to see this rule enforced, given a large number of paints at the 24 Hours of Spa/Nürburgring ran these logos on their paint. I think it might be different in a broadcast, for-profit, or other official/unofficial race series, or as a full sponsor of the car, and not in a "contingency" roll. Use at your own discretion.

**The #46 WRT BMW runs without the series number boards, but has the "Rossi-style" #46 with the standard ROWE Motor Oil logo below it. It appears you're allowed to make alterations to the standard series logos, for a price, and depending on the event. For instance, the Gulf 12 Hours allows you to run a custom windshield banner for €1500.

I've created a Google Drive as a possible resource for compiling, and sharing, logos as we find them.

It needs to be stated that I'm not sure of the legalities, or moral issues, with this system. All logos should be easily, and freely, available on the internet (at least when they were found), unless created (or, at least, edited) by the person sharing the file. This folder should only be for personal use.

To answer your Fanatec question, Corsair purchased the Fanatec brand, but I haven't seen any sign of Corsair releasing "Corsair"-branded wheels, or closing the Fanatec brand.

Corsair just announced today that they have also purchased the "Trak Racer" brand...
Trak Racer joins CORSAIR’s portfolio of brands as a complement to Fanatec, the leading name in sim racing hardware.
I don't consider Corsair, Fanatec, or Trak Racer to be the leading name in anything - nor do I believe them to be the absolute worst - but that's obviously just my opinion, and irrelevant... do your own research.

My Personal Hardware/Software includes:
Fanatec
DSD Button Boxes
DOF Reality
Garage61
VRS

Added a couple Motul logos to the Google drive under IMSA decals, as it appears that decal is utilized for all 5 IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup rounds. There are a couple teams that opt out of using it, due to sponsorships with other oil companies (Meyer Shank Acura #93 GTP/Phillips 66, Risi Competizione Ferrari/Pennzoil, Pratt & Miller #3 Corvette/Mobil 1). I couldn't verify the #4 Corvette, and the #60 Meyer Shank Acura DID run the Motul logo's. Again, there must be a premium that can be paid to avoid using certain logos. Interestingly, both WRT BMW GTP's did NOT pay the premium, and ran the Motul decals despite also having the Pennzoil branding on the car.

For reference, these sponsors are already partnered with iRacing and available in the iRacing Paint Shop. These used to be on a more car-by-car basis, but they now appear to be pretty universal, at least across the major IMSA, GT3/GT4, and PCups. Generally, due to iRacing's partnership with them, no further actions, or permissions, are required to run their logos in any official session utilizing iRacing software.

Notable mentions: BBS, Bell Helmets, Bilstein, BBS, Eibach, Fanatec/Trak Racer, LIQUI MOLY, Logitech, Motul, Moza Racing, Matco Tools, Mobil 1, Snap-On, Thrustmaster, VP Fuels, and WeatherTech.

I added an iRacing Base Paint Guide to the Google Drive so that the LED boards are correctly located for the series. IMSA puts the LED boards on the side of the car, while SRO locates their LED boards in the windshield. Note that the Aston Martin Vantage GT3 EVO only has the SRO Windshield option, and the BMW M4 GT3 EVO does not currently have any LED panels options available.

All GT4's have ONLY IMSA LED board locations, except for the McLaren 570S, which has 1 option for IMSA LED boards and the rest have NO LED boards.

Alright @Skid_Marc_, I botched my first post so badly I never truly got my point across.

I do very much appreciate your attempts to decipher the meaning and all the effort you've put in.

So, what I was trying to say is I'm lazy. One thing I worry about in my liveries is that a GT World Challenge Europe livery may look a bit dumb in GTWC America and/or Asia due to my choice of sponsors. I also worry about IMSA and VLN, how dumb do my sponsor choices look over all the series GT3/GTD (for example) look?

I'd love the following sponsors that can be used in all series (as a minimum):
  • Motor Oil
  • Brakes
  • Seats
  • ...and whatever else we can think of.
This will allow me to add consistent sponsors to each GT3/GTD livery that will look legit across all series.

I do realize however IMSA may make this difficult but the more overlap the better.

Does this make sense and is it possible?

I think it's easily possible! And I obviously think, at the root of it, you're over-worrying about a small issue. That kind overlap, localization, or fine segregation of sponsors happens all the time. If we were an Esports team, going for a "factory" PRO/GTD Pro program, there may be less of that, but there would also be more money flowing in from the big sponsors. I look at us as more of a Pro-Am/GTD team, where we would be scrapping for every dollar we could get from anyone that's willing to put a logo on our car. There are limits - you wouldn't use Castrol AND Pennzoil on the car - but you could pick a brand like Motul for the "oil" sponsor and still use Liqui-Moly for "lubricant" sponsor.

All of your major brands of motor oils are available just about globally. You can scroll down this link and quickly see a pattern of recurring names across various contries/continents:
Castrol (BP), Chevron, Shell (Helix/Pennzoil), ExxonMobil (Mobil 1), and Total Energies. Admittedly, I wasn't expecting to see Valvoline on the graphic as a top producer in Brake Fluid, but oil-based companies crank out oil-based products, so of course they are.

Brakes:
Far and away I think Brembo is your biggest supplier? 2-6 seem super corporate (an uneducated guess; aimed at the masses, the general market, not the performance market?). AP Racing, Stop Tech, and Wildwood (I think) are all globally recognized at the track, while still a more unique option and on the "fun" side, logo-wise (in that order, imo).

Seats:
Sparco, Recaro, and BRIDE are probably your biggest brands, internationally?

It's also an important part of advertising to recognize that it's less about where you're racing and more about where your audience is. There might be 40,000-200,000 people at the track, but are they all from that country? And if you're broadcasted to 5,000,000 people globally, then you're going to find it more beneficial to find out where in the world the broadcast audience is located. Or maybe you're just taking the opportunity to expand your brand recognition into new places?

If you were to ask me my picks:
Total Energies - Maybe because I'd never heard of it before we met, maybe because it's NOT a name that, to this day, immediately jumps to the front of my mind when I think of oils (I was raised a Mobil 1 guy, rooted for Valvoline racers, and am unjustly biased against Pennzoil products because of allegations of their product that may, or may not, have been true 60 years ago. I've never seen Total Energy on the shelf, I've never seen a commercial for it, etc.) Honestly, I just really like the logo. Also, from experience, it's the hardest logo to deal with on a skin, and the idea of making your life miserable with it is the kind of warmth that, just barely, keeps my heart functioning.

AP Racing or StopTech - I loved the classic AP Racing logo, but they've modernized, and I'm not sure how I feel about it now. Part of me thinks I like it? Part of me thinks I only don't like it because it's not the classic? It does provide a fun opportunity to use the classic AP logo on older cars like the Audi or the Aston, while using the newer logo on the modern stuff. Exactly the kind of think you created this post specifically to avoid! But damn the classic was good. StopTech was a brand in the Forza Motorsports series, and in a world where everyone had Brembo on their car, I went with StopTech. That's just the hipster in me. Fuck Brembo. (I'm sure they're great people, powering hundreds of my favorite people.) (Also, I just remembered I put Brembo brakes on my car this year, and I was probably feeling really smug and proud about it, at the time, too.)

Sparco or Recaro, I have no real preference beyond those two. If it were solely my choice between those two, I'd go Sparco, just because that's what I'm sitting in. But I only went with Sparco because I'm too cheap to shell out for the Recaro racing seats I always wanted after 12-year-old me was introduced to the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo.

Safety Gear (Seat belts/driving suits):
I've taken the liberty to brand all of the driving suits I've made with Sabelt. That was the first international brand I became aware of (via Champ Car and Indycar) after I branched out of my NASCAR/circle-track bubble, dominated by Simpson and K1 Racegear, and I've circled back to it due to their support of Shift Up Now (via a former Indycar driver). Sparco (You could literally kill 20+ birds with this one shotgun) or OMP would also fit the bill.

I would certainly love to hear other people's personal opinions, on these brands or add in any others! Just because I've expanded my horizons over the years doesn't mean my world is very big. I'm sure there is a lot more out there than what my Google algorithm has fed me.

Thanks for the insight @Skid_Marc_, appreciated as always.

...and yes, you're right, I sweat this stuff too much but that's just the way I am. I put in a lot of hours into these liveries and consider it a complete waste of time if I can 't have some measure of authenticity while saving time in the process.

A static sponsor pack will easily save me time as I don't have to spend hours looking at images on the internet, I lose a lot of time doing this.

Also, because of the time commitment I simply don't like investing the effort and doing things half-assed, I aim for full ass.

If it sounds good to you, based off your advice I'll use the following sponsors for all GT3/GTD:
  1. Motor Oil: MOTUL, it's easier to use, if you really want Total Energies and the angst it brings, the QR code will return for balance lol.
  2. Brakes: Brembo
  3. Seats: Sparco because you have one and seem to like it. If you hadn't have commented, I would have used Recaro.
  4. Safety: OMP because I do it myyyyyyyyyyyy wayyyyyyyyyyyy.
This, along with gaming peripheral brands gives me plenty of options to cover dead/empty space.

I have zero knowledge about real world sponsors so I can't give much input here.

From my own side I am using a Sparco seat in my rig, so that fits me too. AWS is applicable too because I work with that pretty much every day.
