1C and 777 merge!!!!

It seems to be true enough so this is interesting. I really really hope they can get their act together and create something worthy of an IL-2 sequel. We'll see.
I must also say that my hopes are not sky high at the moment as what they have accomplished so far is a good, but gamey, dogfight focused simulator (RoF) and.....something else (CloD). If they combine their worst efforts the result can be truly horrible
I hope for the opposite ;)

So the rumors were all true. Not the worst thing that could happen, but we'll see what this new team can deliver in 2014. Until then it's DCS:A-10C for joystick exercises.

Good Lord, no good can come from this.

Ever notice how you can be really good at something but when you're teamed up with someone who sux, it always brings your game down?

I agree that IL2 was a great game but it took a while to get there and it only got really good once the Community started working on it. 1C is a very closed minded dev IMHO and unless they open their games up a bit to the possibilities of modding, anything else they put out is likely to be more of the same.

I really hope DCS decides to make a WW2 era flight sim, that would be awesome.

This is my hope too, but it seems to be years and years before that happens as their focus is mainly on modern day aircrafts (at least that is my impression considering what they have released so far).

I think IL-2 was very good at its time, even before the community started modding it, but it really shines with the extra polish the community have applied to it lately :)
That was then and I doubt we'll ever see something quite like it again from either 1C or 777. I hope though, that something good will come out of it.

DCS will get WW2 content eventually. There are screenshots with BF-109s, B-17s, Yak, heck even FW-190 around, so at least as AI planes the chances are good for some of them to be released.

Of course, the map problem will still be there until ED releases EDGE and then it will take time to get a WW2 map.

Until then I'll happily drive my Warthog through the Georgian skies. Getting to know all the stuff in this plane is a huge task and even though I have around 100 hours in the plane, there's still lots more to discover.

I agree and disagree with this only because the game was great before modding as you say but it was unplayable for many upon release.

My boss is who actually got me into the game and he had terrible sound related issues where I experienced massive frame drops now and then for no apparent reason. My sound issues weren't as bad as his but they weren't perfect either.

I especially didn't like how a Spit could sound like a BF-109 and virtually every other fighter in the game. I've read it countless times already but may as well repeat it here, 1C NEEDS to stop using digital engine sounds and get them from the source.

Do You work for ED Wotan ;)
HeHe, no the DCS engine is good but I believe that the RoF engine is capable of handling what we want aswell! I really think this can be great. It will take to long for ED to develop the DCS World for WWII.

I agree with HaJa here. I think 777 has the tools to make a great sim.
What I'm more uncertain of is if they have the proper management to make this wonderful sim. Management in 1C was bad at best (regarding the CloD release and following patches). I can't really say anything bad or positive of the 777 management but I have a positive impression at least (though coop missions/campaigns in RoF is sorely lacking).

The campaign engine in RoF is actually not that bad! It has a complex FMB thoug that needs a lot of studying and the offline single campaign is managed throug a third party program but 777 studio has made the tool available from within the game GUI!

I try to remain hopeful about this merger. Maybe the 777 management can provide more solid direction for the 1C talent, so the cluster-fuck that is CloD can be avoided this time around.

I hope they handle ground units more efficiently this time around though. Stalingrad with a maximum of 20 trucks/tanks/trains would be slightly disappointing.

Yes it supports coop, it's just a matter of making missions for it. There is some limitations with moving objects since the AI is constantly controlling them thus making a hefty toll on the server but 70 players on servers and hundreds of static objects is possible but it takes
a good connection! However a coop with 10 of us against AI with objectives to meet should be feasible.
