4K PC Gaming

This has been a really interesting subject for me, and I'm by no means an expert obviously. All I know is when I run games in 4K they look amazing, but I can't run the latest games at the highest settings with playable framerates. Just seeing them there though is enough for me to want it...

A lot of the opinions I read are that we are not quite there yet for a single card solution to 60FPS 4K gaming at the highest settings. Not even the mighty 980Ti can achieve that. Of course, two can, but at around £1100 for two without even factoring in the need for a beefier PSU and a bigger case, it's not really worth upgrading... is it?

What are the thoughts of my fellow enthusiasts around the world?

I'm a little behind on what's what in the world of high end PC's.

What in your opinion is the best;

- CPU?

- RAM?

- Motherboard?

- PSU?

- HDD/SSD?

for a 4K 60FPS minimum capable build? Obviously the SLI 980Ti's are a must, but what other components do you think would compliment that?

My PC specs at the moment are;

Psu: Corsair CX600
Mobo: Asus P8Z68-V Pro Gen 3.0
Cpu: Intel Core i7 2700k 3.5 - 3.9Ghz
Cooler: Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo
Ram: 16gb Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600mhz
Gpu: Gigabyte G1 Gaming GeForce GTX970 4gb
Hdd: Western Digital Black 1TB

I'm thinking of starting a new build from scratch, I'm just unsure whether to do that now or wait and see what 2016 brings... what's the next big thing on the horizon?

There's a couple cards higher than the 980Ti, or at least just a little bit.

Honestly I think legit 4K gaming is going to have to wait until we start to see DX12 implemented. A few games are on the horizon that are using DX12, and the optimization I think will bring about the ability to play at that res.

In this case, I think the GPUs got ahead of the API (DirectX). Of course we'll see even better GPUs soon, but right now, we need DirectX12.

Well, I went ahead and ordered one of these:

http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/graphics/2015/08/25/gigabyte-geforce-gtx-980-ti-g1-gaming-revie/1

In OC mode it will play several of my games at high settings in 4K at over 60fps which is enough for me. I'll add another one next year along with a new cpu, ram, psu and mobo and will invest in an SSD too. But for right now this card will give me the kind of experience I want from my gaming for the titles out right now.

Looking forward to getting it in the rig and seeing how big the differences are :)

Wow. Just... wow.

I put the G1 980Ti in today and it stomps all over 4K. I'm running GTA 5 with everything set as high as it can go, yes that includes all Ultra options including grass, with all advanced options set to maximum too. It's not even breaking a sweat. With V-sync on I'm not dropping below 60fps.

This card is EPIC :eek:

And I can't even describe how beautiful GTA is at this resolution with these settings...

I'm going to boot up the other graphical benchmark Project Cars to see how far I can push it :)

EDIT: Unbelievable. What a powerhouse of a card. Everything looks so amazing :D

Can't recommend this card enough!
