Lol, since when is this an exploration game? Wanna compare to Iracings exploration rate? :p
Hey now, iRacing has 73 tracks in over 60+ different cities, across over 10 countries! There's over 150 miles (241 km) of scanned pavement!

P.S. I'd be curious to know the total amount of miles in game there actually are. (And not in-game "miles", because those are not accurate) I read somewhere in ETS the european roads were at a 19-1 ratio to RL. So 19 miles driven in game was a RL mile.

That's true Daunt. ATS is even 32-1 rate (or else the whole of the US won't fit in the game engine eventually, lol). You don't want to go there though, because I'll make sure to compare the cost of those miles in Iracing vs the cost of the miles in ATS ;)
But seriously, with two of the states in place there's around 11,500 miles ingame, so divided by 32 thats like 360 true miles, and there's another state coming up to be included. So let's say we end up with lets say 500 true miles, for $20. I think that beats Iracing's $15 for an average 2 mile track. BTW, did you know SCS actually scanned the roads too? Except with slightly larger increments, lol.

Of course I'm fully aware this is a completely unfair comparison above. All I wanted to say is that both games aren't about driving the road once, but several times. SCS only introduced the 'map discovered percentage' because there is a steam achievement for it, not because it's the game goal, and after achieving it you're done playing or something like that. I usually start a new profile sometime after achieving all skill upgrades, which takes a couple hundred of hours no matter what the map size is at that moment. Completionists will take longer (discover everything, visit all companies, buy, upgrade and staff all garages, get all skills maximally upgraded, unlock all truck upgrades etc). After 960 hours I still haven't managed to get all ETS2 achievements for example.

And I think Iracing is an awesome game! (I'm just not good at it)

Haha no problem! Interesting numbers... that was what I was trying to search for, but no luck. Of course they're not comparable but still fun to see the two. "Slightly larger increments"

We could compare fuel costs. How much diesel fuel you burn vs the high octane racing fuel I burn. haha

Eh? It's quite a different experience to drive. Quite large too compared to the other stock trucks. Laughed my butt off in MP yesterday, as half the players can't seem to turn out of a yard without getting their trailer hooked up with it, and the parking antics with it was like watching a circus sideshow.
There were so many people having trouble manouvring the thing that we were getting traffic jams XD

Well, after driving the W900 for a bit here's my mini-review for the W900, for those who think I have a shred of objectivity left when it comes to this game

Pro's:
  • Very well modeled exterior and interior (as to be expected though)
  • The truck is wide and large, as it should be, therefore providing extra challenge when negotiating tight corners and parking
  • Very nice, rough edged engine sound which is much more distinctive then the other truck sounds
  • Great jake brake sound
  • Realistic gearbox ratio's
  • A good selection of custom paint jobs catering to a wide range of tastes

Neutral:
  • Except for a large selection of bumpers and a good selection of rims, the upgrade options are pretty standard and limited.
  • There is no gear indicator on the dashboard, or dashboard info panel. That is realistic though I suppose.

Cons:
  • Roof mounted airhorns are stock and not optional upgrades
  • Eventhough the engine sounds are good, there is quite a bit of background noise in the form of clunks and rattles that make the engine almost sound worn out like.
  • Near to no idle running sound on the engine, which stands out as a sore thumb compared to the sound of the engine under load.
  • Half the players seem to have trouble handling the size of this truck, which turns playing the MP mod into a rough and frustrating experience (unless you take some delight in the suffering of others, and don't mind a head on collision or two at corners)

So that's what the update was about. Having 2 hours on the game clock, I think I'll stick with the smaller trucks, though ;)

Might be a good plan to build up slowely. The long chassis version of the T680 and the 579 are about as long as the 'short' chassis version of the W900, so once you're used to those it should be an easy switch to the W900 then. (and by then you should have some money to do so too heh)

Arizona DLC is sure taking its sweet time, but according to SCS, it should be ready for (internal) beta testing within the next few weeks. Might even be a public beta after that. Screenshots are looking sweet though;

One feature I've been wishing for forever is coming with the next updates for both ATS and ETS2; 'Advanced Trailer Coupling', where kingpin and fifth wheel will finally have real physics, and you'll need to do some precision reversing to hook up your trailer. Looking forward to be able to do this!

Keep those (optional) hardcore features coming SCS!

Nope, haven't seen any official news on that at all :(
Only new truck I've heard about is aa new renault truck coming with the southern france dlc for ets2...

Arizona is now available as open beta in the steam beta branch. Next to the new state it also has the advanced coupling, and world of truck jobs being available directly ingame. The last 2 features are also available as open beta for ETS2 btw.
Next to that there are more menu options available, where you can turn a bunch of stuff on and off. Reaslly like how you can turn the route advisor pop ups completely off now :)

Yes, there is a specific option to disable that (don't show parking dialogue, from the top of my head). Actually, that option was already introduced in the previous official update so it's already in the gameplay menu in the current version. I've got things set up in such a way currently that I do get no pop ups at all.

There's also multiple settings for showing up the route. Never, only in the take job screen, only on the map, both on map and job screen, or always, where the last options is the only option where the route will show on your dashboard route finder.
So it's possible to have your navigation on, but without it showing the route, so you'll need to drive by roadsigns, or open your map and find your own route (which can be good fun and ups difficulty)

And there's more options to turn on and off, such as fines for example.
That's all already in the current version, it came with the wheels update (where you can tune your wheels part by part, rim, cover, bolts etc)

But yeah, you can turn pop ups completely (I think the option is called 'never show route finder' from the top of my head), you also don't get any at the fuel station, when parking, at the job symbol, garage etc, non at all, you just stand on the symbols and press enter because you know you have to.

New and unexpected developments on ATS; SCS will rescale the current map from 1:37 to 1:20. This goes for both the map as well as the timescale.
I guess now is the best time while the map is still small. Basicly they pulled the whole map apart, so the roads inbetween the cities will have the same scale as the cities themselves (currently the cities are different scaled then the rest of the map)

The next two pictures will convey what I'm trying to say best:

So instead of arriving at the next town when you've just driven out of the previous one, scale and scaling will be more realistic, and the experience will be more like ETS2 when it comes to scale. It will also give SCS a chance to improve cities, create grander vista's, and best of all, they will have room to get rid of those unpassable highway intersections and replace them with proper ones.
