American Truck Simulator

Well, just a few more weeks.

Got some more info too today: Next to the starting state of California, the state of Nevada will also be included as free DLC right from the start. Next to that, the state of Arizona will also be added as free DLC to the game, but that one isn't finished yet. After that one arrives, other map additions will come as paid DLC, but to be honest I'm expecting them to be quite spread out in time, and friendly priced as usual.

Talking about price, SCS claims the game price is adviced to be $20/€20, so that's not at all bad for the base game I suppose.

How far the game will expand in the future, well, depends on how many of us will be spending money on DLC in the future according to SCS on their software blog. Whatever happens, it will be a long process, count on several years.

I'm really looking forward to this game though, and together with what is planned to happen with world of trucks, the future is looking interesting :)

OOOh, and I just noticed something in that last pic I posted. Zoom in on it and tell me if you also see that ambulance actually coming from the left running a red light while AI is yielding to it eventhough they have green?

Oh don't play the victim Shilka I've heard your stories lol

I'm looking forward to this game. ETS 2 didn't quite hook me, but the prospect of driving a big American rig across the state with my Smokey and the Bandit music on is something I'm looking forward to :)

The thing that got me was the traffic in ETS 2, specifically the lack of realism in both the look, variety and behaviour. If they've improved it like this suggests, or at least how you are reading into it, then that can only be a good thing...

Since SCS has promised us more attention to detail for ATS, and a more realistic and personalized look of the surroundings instead of ETS2's copy pasted buildings, they have posted some real life to game comparison pictures. Looking good!;

Not bad at all, I imagine once a sweet FX preset has been figured out it will look even better. And yes, in VR this would be amazeballs :icon_cool:

I know some people are a bit salty about starting with two (Very big) states. However, I think the attention to detail this time around is a plenty fair trade off. ETS may have been bigger but for the most part everywhere felt the same, this should definitely be solved in ATS.

As of right now, there are 31 cities on the American map. ETS2 started with 69 (Meaning 69 without expansions or free DLC) A little less than half as many this time, but like I said each city has had a lot more time spent on it to make sure it feels different and captures some of its real life counterpart, which is a lot more than ETS2 did.

We also still have Arizona coming for free after a bit.

Rock paper shotgun did a nice write-up about American Truck Simulator. It's critical but fair, and gives a reasonable picture of what to expect. I'm looking forward to this game, but I also realize that it will just be a basegame with limited area to start off with. SCS does excellent mod support however, and it won't be long untill you're able to polish this game with mods to whatever which way you want it to shine :)

Give it a read, it's honest and fair in my eyes (and has a few vid clips too): https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2016/01/22/american-truck-simulator-release/

hmm okay... I read here "also the parking should be more difficult...." You ahve never tried to park in Scandinavia in ETS2 I guess :D

More variety in trailer lenght.... meh I mean 2 is 200% of 1 trailer but thats all I saw sofar.

"More variety in landscape" mmm no cause in ETS2 you ahve everything from Scandinavia down to Greece and even bit of Africa. And from totally flat to Mountains. :p

Also looking at the comparison screenies there are on some, some hefty difference in those 2 pictures.....

There's different locations yes, but the appearance isn't all that different. Also they never claimed to be aiming for 100% accuracy but based it off real life counterparts and tried to include some iconic features. Again, way more than ETS2 did for visual appeal.
