ARMA2 event 13.11.2012 - Roll Call

We gave Poppyhead another try last time. This time we probably won't since we have failed every single time and as a result the respect for the local police in the area has dropped like a stone. They've told me that they will NOT have any help from us for a while

We have a lot of 8-10 player missions available that we haven't touched yet, so if we're as many this time as last event we'll probably try something new.
I'll see if I can find something amusing before Tuesday, and if so will post it here.

I'm open to suggestions of other missions if you find something interesting :)

If you want to join this event, let me know by typing a short message in this thread.

I'm on TS from 2000 CET.

Here's some info for the mission I've found for this event:
Mission name Into Hell (co09).
Sharp team has been ambushed by local militia. Their stryker is destroyed and some of the team members are wounded. They have found shelter in a mosque and so far the insurgents haven't dared to attack them, but this may change soon.
Our team will head out on a rescue mission. We are to clear the area of insurgents and make way for medevac. At our disposal we have two strykers, one of them an ambulance.

Further information will be given at mission launch.

First and foremost: Hi and welcome to sas_element for joining us last night! Good fun having you on the team yesteday and I hope you'll join us on future events too :)

We had two great missions yesterday! Unfortunately I forgot to turn on my FRAPS so I have no pictures from the event to show, unless someone else also ran FRAPS or something? Sorry about that folks :(

This time we also split up in two smaller teams instead of one big team, with four in each.
For me, this worked much better since it took some of the information overload off my head. Ogami stepped up as the second team lead and I think this worked very well and we got to the action a bit quicker and decisions were also given much more smoothly with the team split up.
There was a quite some bit of confusion, especially in the last mission, around which team were where and which car belonged to who and so on. I guess I have to take most of the blame for that

I had a really good time yesterday, thanks everyone!
And, as always, sorry for the TK Wapwap!

I also want to say something about the communication as we haven't really had any use for proper radio communication before. Yesterday, with eight people on the same channel I started to understand why this is a science :D

The communication between us left a lot to be desired, but Rolfy remembered the old army-drill ;) When he addressed me, he started with "Aplha 1, this is Alpha 3! <message>". THAT little piece of information meant a lot to me as I tried to get a picture of who is doing what and where that who belonged. Once I heard "Alpha 1" I immediately paid attention to the message as I knew it was one of my teammates that was about to do something.
The correct answer from me would be "Alpha 3, this is Alpha 1. <message>" so sorry Rolfy, for not following you up on that.

I think this is something we should consider to implement, especially when we're more than 5-6 guys and we're split up in two or more teams.
We can also use the in-game VON and split up in different channels there whenever possible.

What do you think guys?

Agree, best SN 2012 so far Ogami did great as Teamleader and all performed as soldiers! TK happen in real life as well, and missions this SN was as real as it can get in Arma I think. But modern Specops in 2012 have information in map regarding own forces and enemy activity known. But I suppose we are not able to deside if that should show up in ouer map.
Also agree with Leimboy regarding try to use the old army-drill adressing from an to if possible. But think we should stay in same channel if we operate as close as yesterday. Lot easyer to support other team when we have same task. But we are humans, and as in real combat, If you are shot at or killed, u may make noises and scream on radio, fex "Contact east behind us!". And if teamlead Leimboy or Ogami gives orders to entier team, we know the voices and they dont have to adress from and to.
Hope to see you all next SN, as it will be my last SN 2012!
Some woork and then off for Mexico in December :icon_cheesygrin:

Good point Rolfy! We should probably stay as much as possible on the same channel. This will be a "learn as we go" thing I think.

Wether we see friendlies on the map or not is mission specific and up to the individual mission maker. Not too many missions have this option so we'll have to be more careful before firing (yes, yes, _I_ have to be more careful ).

You're feeling the travel fever yet, Rolfy? B-)

I was doing the best I could be prefacing any actions I wanted the 'B' team to do with the Bravo callsign. Aside from coordination between the teams, I thought it went pretty well usually.

Agreed Ogami. The teamwork between the teams worked great and I think the definition of which team should do what was usually very clear.
The problem for me was to determine if the information from someone was said to me or to you when, for example, Wapwap said something. Add to this that I first had to identify the voice and who it belonged to and then what team this individual was a part of.
The result was that I was half-listening to everything that was said (which again made me so confused as I was in the end )

And don't misunderstand me, the confusion itself was part of the fun that evening :icon_cheesygrin:

Those were some really good games last week, great fun and nice teamwork.

Depending on with how many people and teams we are, I though the way communications went down last week were pretty good. Perhaps assigning numbers (Alpha 1 for Alpha leader, Alpha for next in row, Bravo 1 for Bravo leader) will improve the communication between eachother and the team a bit more. We could give it a try next time if there will be enough people to split up the teams again.

And, as always, sorry for the TK Wapwap!
Don't worry about it.. i'm getting used to it ;)
