Assetto Corsa - Most (non subscription) accurate simulation of a current F1 car

Want to drive the most accurate simulation of a modern day F1 car outside of a subscription based sim? Assetto Corsa released their "red pack" today and it includes the Ferrari SFT-15 with all it's systems fully simulated. That one sentence on it's own is incredibly impressive. These cars have got more tech crammed into them than Bill Gates' house so for them to model it all and get it working in a sim is very impressive. I love how they have included the last of the V8 F1 cars too - the Ferrari F138 used in the 2013 season. I have heard this car scream round Silverstone and also a V8 in Wembley stadium for the race of champions event. They sound absolutely epic.

Here it is in action - look at it... Beautiful. And it sounds amazing.

I'm downloading the pack now to try out later. Whatever your opinions on the racing the cars themselves are a marvel of engineering and design. Here's a video of the SFT-15...

And here's a little detail on what they've managed to pull off at Kunos.

Power Unit Simulation - MGU-K, MGU-H, ICE with variable Turbo, Batteries charging and energy deployment.

Another KUNOS tradition is to update the physics engine with new features every time we have a new car with very specific characteristics. RedPack includes the Ferrari F138 and SF15-T. The F138 features a typical KERS system that can be simulated very well by our existing hybrid simulation, as seen in the LaFerrari and McLaren P1. Nevertheless the F138 required a maximum energy deployment per lap feature, as well as a bypass button. Both features are now simulated in Assetto Corsa and this permitted also an update of the McLaren P1 that now includes a push to pass button.

On the other hand the SF15-T has the new power unit with a very complex ERS system. The system includes an MGU-K with specific charge and deploy energy values, various profiles of energy deployment, different levels of energy charging, active rear braking pressure, MGU-H for energy harvesting from the Turbo that can be directed to the batteries or to the MGU-K, and different ICE engine braking levels. It has been a very intense period of research and implementation but everything has been coded and simulated in Assetto Corsa and it is available through keys and driving buttons for all Assetto Corsa users to configure!

Physics features commands are now configurable on keyboard and controllers.
Relevant features like Traction Control, ABS, Turbo, MGU-K, MGU-H, Engine brake etc, can be configured on the gaming device, and on the keyboard.

Definitely not the most accurate. I doubt it's better than iRacing's recently-scanned Macca MP-30. I'm sure it's a blast though.

Sorry, I meant to say "most accurate simulation of a current F1 car without re-mortgaging your house and non-voxel shaded visuals" ;)

Nah I didn't know iRacing had an F1 car. It's MP4-30 btw c'mon don't forget the 4! Does it have all the buttons modeled and working (ie. useable) as in AC?

What I would like to see is a side by side comparison video of the MP4-30 from iracing and the SFT-15 of Assetto Corsa, both interior and exterior views around the same track. Now that would be interesting. How much does the car cost in iRacing?

all cars are $15. For a hobby it's extremely inexpensive and I love that it has a monthly fee. It keeps console-type knuckledraggers who aren't serious about simracing as a motorsports simulation away. Not to mention it gives iRacing plenty of money to give us great things.

Thank you for the correction! Everything is accurately modeled yes. DRS (all tracks upon release of the car in Dec (I think it was?) got DRS zones) ERS, etc. They're working currently on implementing different tires I believe, along with race requirements for them (so you will be DQ'd if you don't run prime and options during your race)

I bought it and its extremely complicated haha. I haven't driven it much... don't like seeing my wheels while driving. :p

Ah nice! That's awesome. I've updated the thread title to reflect this and stand corrected :)

I wish the subscription would keep the knuckledraggers away but they are alive and well and using Daddy's credit card just fine from what I've experienced on the track in iRacing lol.

Man I wish iRacing and Assetto Corsa had sexy time and had a baby. The mutiplayer service and structure of iRacing with the audio and visuals of Assetto Corsa (with a reacharound from Forza 6: Apex's rain system with it's aquaplaning and a cupping of balls from Project Cars Day/Night cycle) would be quite a thing.

Dammit. Why does this game not exist. :(

Lol at the title.

Trust me it does keep them away. I think there's certainly a barrier where if you don't break above a certain skill level, you're always going to be driving with morons left and right. And shit does happen anyway. I've had a series of starts where everyone is extremely competitive, smart and good drivers, but I've had to work hard to be able to get myself to that skill level too.

Think of it like rocket league and your team mates. You get paired with a team mate of similar skill level, and against a team of similar skill. If your skill was absolute shit but you could occasionally have brilliant aerial goals, i'm sure you'd get real annoyed with your team mate, who is also absolute shit. Whereas when you play in the higher divisions like above challenger, you get really intense, amazing games. Or we've all been put on absolutely terrible teams in FPS matchmaking games and just want to shoot our entire team.

You're right about the visuals though but hopefully we'll see an improvement soon as we're almost finished moving to DX11. Still won't be many months though so AC wins that. THOUGH I will mention I heard (no way for me to test) that AC's mirrors don't function like mirrors but rather like screens so you always see the same thing from every angle. Yet in iRacing, if you lean left or whatever, your viewpoint changes and the reflection in the mirror changes to see more of a different angle.

Well I'm only going on personal experience and watching the videos of you guys racing. The latest being the endurance race fiasco. So I guess you all must be racing with the low down plebs as well then ;) As for the mirrors I have no idea, I only glance at them when required, most of the time I'm looking you know... forward. I guess that would explain the crashes in iRacing then, everyone is too busy looking at their rotating view mirrors and forgets to brake for the corners as they aren't looking where they are going... :p (bant)

Are you talking about a game or real life?

If real life then no, it's mirrors, a quick life saver (still do that even though I don't ride a bike anymore it became a habit) then manoeuvre. Mirrors have an angled piece at the edge to cover the blind spot.

In games, unless you are using trackIR or VR how can you lean? You learn to have spatial awareness don't you (and rely on a guy not dive bombing you).

I'm not sure what you are getting at?

Anyway, the F1 car in Assetto Corsa is very nice. I'm sure the one in iRacing is too. The DRS animation (lol) on both versions leaves a lot to be desired though. Still things they can do to improve.

In all fairness though, endurance is not the same as official racing. The way registration works for endurance races means you can find yourself against drivers with 800 iRating as easily as 8000.

Yeah I can imagine. Hey I'm not knocking iRacing it's awesome for what it is and I'm looking forward to getting back into it in the winter :) I'll be keeping an eye on any graphical improvements they make too as that will only make it better. I really enjoy watching all the videos you guys put up until that point and Assetto Corsa will keep me going until then :)

No I understand. it's far from perfect and all I can say is do your best to hit 2000+ iRating and you'll enjoy the sim that much more, I can promise you.

If you hit 5000+ iRating you get unlock Pcars graphics ;)
