For this race we'll be driving the KTM X-Bow R at Silverstone International.

Since this is a challenge the race time should be 12 noon with all driving assists off except for Clutch.
  • Stability Control: Off
  • Mechanical Damage: 100%

I'm new to the X-Bow R so I really have no idea how to drive it.

So far the best time I've been able to post is a 1:17:912 and I'm still not sure how because every lap since has been 1 - 2 seconds higher.

Ok that gives me a target! Spun it on nearly every corner so far so a lot of work to be done lol

Nice, I managed to put together a 1:17:340 and then followed it up by hitting the grass and nearly spinning into a wall.

I have not been able to improve or even come close to that time since.

Arrrrgh now I've got to push harder! I'm already on the limit I think

This was first lap out of the pits so fresh tires that I babied until the final corner into the Start/Finish Line.

I was literally on two wheels clipping the apex of the final corner

Love this game so much, so freakin fun trying to eek out a faster lap!

Yeah it was, it was done in hotlap so if you go off track even by an inch it slows you right down to 30mph for five seconds! That's why I love the hotlapping, you can't cheat ;) I just clipped that apex perfectly, wish you could post replays easily

So far the best I can muster is 1:17:320 so I have no idea how you did this and kept it on the track?

That was very well done. I'll give it a few more try's but this is certainly a toughie to beat at this point.

Nice job.

I can't beat you on this on little p so I'll have to concede.

I've managed to shave a few tenths off but I'm still a full second over your record.

I can see that we have differing driving styles and it's very much something that will hurt me in this manner. I'm really trying to stick to a line that I can repeat and if I start to deviate I end up pretty much the way you see at the end of the video.

I've also noticed that you feather the throttle continuously which is smart because it keeps your revs up but it's not something I can adopt.

It will certainly be interesting to see how we do in MP.

I love the presentation style Duke, very smart!

I can see a few areas where you could shave some time off, you are very smooth under braking, I'm squirreling around like a madman lol

Yeah it will be interesting racing, I think I would be good at qualifying, but more chance of me having an off in a race, I'd have to dial it back for a race, but that's part of it isn't it, I think we would be close together though for sure.

Ok, well if you've had enough of the KTM/Silverstone Combo, do you want to choose another? I know you like the GT2's... I'm happy to do whatever combo you decide though :)

I take it we are doing this in Hotlap mode, not practice? I saw you mention the fact you came out of the pits, and in Hotlap challenge you start on track. Just so we are on the same page d00d :icon_cool:

Doesn't this sim look amazing though, and to think it's still in early access, the potential here is huge!

EDIT: I'd love to see a side by side comparison of our laps like Topgear and Fifth Gear does, would be quite interesting to see I think on all replays, be it comparing your own or vs another driver.

Wonder if they'd add that feature in the future, I've not seen it in any sim/game yet?

Sorry my bad, I did mean that we’d do this in Practice Mode not Hotlap even though that’s how I’m referring to it, d0h!

I did manage to break into the 1:16’s but that was the best I could do while keeping it on the track. I didn’t post that video though because the actual racing itself was garbage, I’m not even sure how I broke my 1:17 to be honest? The only good thing about the time I posted is that I can replicate it lap after lap which I think should see me in good shape come race day.

I’ve noticed myself there are plenty areas where I can knock off 1/10[SUP]th[/SUP] here and there. Unfortunately what always ends up happening is I carry that speed forward and lose it shortly thereafter (which you can plainly see at the end of the video).

As soon as I’m off my racing line or out of my comfort zone I’m toast.

The other thing I don’t like is wheel spin or even the sound of tire slip because it’s going to result in a spin sooner or later or it’s going to make my tires wear quicker than I think they should. It may be my imagination but around lap 13 of trying to beat your time I could feel the car getting away from me and it was increasingly hard to manage especially under fast out corner acceleration. The ass end was all over the place and put me into spins more times than I can count.

In Practice, Qualifying and Race, I’m really trying to establish a line and stick to it because come race time I’m easily influenced into stupid maneuvers. I’ve been watching Empty Box lately who’s a really experienced iRacer and he’s all about keeping his line and racing his race not someone else’s. He’s not the fastest racer but he’s got a very high iRacing Level because he’s consistent which is what I’m striving for here.

I was thinking we could perhaps put up a 5 Lap Practice Session and see what comes of that? Basically you’d have to post your best 5 Lap string for comparison which could give us an indication of how we’d stack up come race day.

Anyway I was considering either the M3 GT2 or perhaps Zonda at Imola but I’ll give it some more thought and post later today.

Cool, I'm down for whatever. Yup, consistency is the key to running a good race/championship, I'm a huge fan of a series over here called BTCC (British Touring Car Championship). You may or may not of heard of it, but it's basically our DTM, and recently a driver won the championship without winning a single race! He just kept getting those points on the board and made sure he finished every time, staying out of trouble (of which there is a lot in this series!) as much as he could, incredible discipline.

Anyway, look forward to the next challenge!

Only thing is we'll have to do it on the honour system if we're doing it in practice mode, as it doesn't penalise you for going off track (I think?). But that's ok with me, it's only a bit of fun isn't it :)

I absolutely love DTM racing, next to Rally it’s my favorite form of racing and my favorite track race by far. I’ve only caught a bit of BTTC but that’s because apparently I’m the only Canadian interested in it because you just can’t see it anywhere except the Internet.

…even then it’s usually only highlights or low resolution racing.

I was wondering why I wasn’t being penalized for going off track on my spins? As you can see though, my posted lap was clean so I’m confident in the time I put up.

Will Hotlap allow us numerous laps, I can’t remember? Also, it’s not the one with that bl00dy ghost car is it?

I’m good either way d00d so no worries.

I have to admit though that I’m the worst racer on the planet. I’m not fast and I’m not consistent and it’s because I drive like a complete idiot. This time around I’m trying to discipline myself and I’m hoping that 200+ hours of Euro Truck Simulator 2 can help me.

I’m going to race my race and see what happens. Hopefully it keeps me from spinning or running wide but only traffic and a little pressure will truly tell the tale.

What I’m looking forward to most here is getting on the track with you and actually racing.
