I'm going to carve some time out to do this tonight, although I must say in advance it was my last day working until the new year and I AM CELEBRATING! I will have had at least half a litre of Honey Jack Daniels before I start at around 10pm tonight so if I make it to the end the right way up and not on fire I'm counting that as a personal victory ;)
o boy... we havent any chance now... :icon_cheesygrin:

Oh man, THAT was fun. Something about the no restarts and not much repairing available made that so much fun. The most fun I've had with Dirt Rally by far :D

I was second with 1 stage to go,

but..... on the final stage I slid off into a tree (thanks to the British weather) within the first 10 seconds and had to nurse the car through the rest of the stage with an overheating Lancia that was 3 feet shorter than it was at the beginning of the stage :icon_lol:

At that moment I really felt like a rally driver :icon_mad: I should have known better than to chase Injen down, pushing hard hoping he would have made an error on the fourth and final stage

Absolutely brilliant stuff. Even though I cocked the final stage up, that was part of the experience.

I also really liked how you set the stages Daunt, as if we were progressing through a day with it going from day to night and some rain in there. The rain really caught me out and that was awesome :D

Ok, well here's to the next one! Are we going to have some kind of points scoring system or does it do that for us?

It is done via points through the 4 stages. So the top drivers (top 10?) are awarded points each stage.

First 10 drivers in an event get points:
1st - 25
2nd -18
3rd - 15
4th -12
5th - 10
6th - 8
7th - 6
8th - 4
9th - 2
10th - 1
Nice job li-uhl P. I echo your feelings about the less-repairing being more realistic. It really makes for a high-risk, high reward driving style. Gain a lot but take more risks and risk ruining the car beyond what you can repair next stage. Just wish I didn't suck this event. haha.

Love the mix of nationalities, too! So cool to see.

I agree 100%.

And yep, the nationalities are a perfect example of how diverse a userbase we have involved here at Band of Others. :icon_cool:

When in doubt, flat out.
I saw his Brother drive Colin's 555 Impreza around our national stadium at Race of Champions right after his death. Had his name still on the car. We were all on our feet applauding... Very poignant moment indeed. Never forget that.

I'm glad it did (and worked). I couldn't stand it, made me feel sick lol
Are you using TrackIR5? I just got it today and tried playing Dirt Rally and got nauseous within the first 30-60 seconds of driving, not sure if it's TrackIR or the mod, or maybe the fact that I was trying a setting with no deadzones.

That's pretty awesome. Lucky to be able to witness that.

I don't think that mod would be a good idea with Track IR. You need a stable central point when your head is in the straight ahead position I think otherwise yes I can see where the nausea would kick in pretty quick. I felt uncomfortable playing with the mod, not quite nauseous but I would definitely not use that mod with Track IR. I;m not sure Track IR would be that great in Dirt anyway...

I gave it another go and it isn't that bad. The mod actually helps keep the camera facing the horizon which stops you from making extra head movements. TrackIR5 in racing games doesn't really ever get used intentionally for me, it just kicks in when I'm looking at the side of the screen for a turn in, which naturally makes the camera look towards the turn, I don't really have to think about it. I need to play with settings and get better with it though because sometimes I might accidentally turn it too far and completely lose my sense of direction and crash. That doesn't happen often though and is more than likely just a result of me trying to learn the program.

I just looked this morning and couldn't believe I was within 20 seconds of you. But if you had broken wheels that makes a bit more sense! :p

I really like Finland and have had quite a bit of practice in it. Just not with the Group A cars, I had issues of going into corners driving it like it was a group B car then finding myself without power on a few occasions.

That event in Wales was one of my most favourite ones. The radiator was seriously damaged during the first stage but I still managed to make a good finish. Some moments deserved sharing, but, unluckily, I don't use any recording software.

Looking forward, I hope Finland won't make my suspension 100% ruined at the first stage.

i thought so too, but not so bad. -10% after two stages for subaru, shi's have pretty high ground clearance on stock settings

Put my times in, apparently I kicked ass in stage 3 but other than that I was pretty slow. Playing without any visual cues is a pain at Finland because 80% of what your co-drive is saying is "CREST OVER CREST OVER DOUBLE CREST KEEP MIDDLE OVER CREST JUMP MAYBE PAST JUNCTION CREST left 2 OVER DOUBLE CREST KEEP MID JUMP MAYBE". My crappy short term memory makes it hard to keep up in the first place but holy shit I wish they'd take out some of those crest calls.
