Well, given my HORRIBLE luck in official races as of late (two more bad results last night) I think it's best if I bow out of this one. It seems I just can't catch a break in either keeping my car on track (Guess I'm pushing too hard to be fast?) or getting caught up in other individual's crashes that drift into me. The last thing I want/need is to have it hanging over my head that I killed the event for a team.

Not only that, but it seems the general consensus is that most drivers appear to want to have quite a bit of seat time meaning the team needs to be smaller. My wife being away that weekend leaves me being the responsible parent so my stints would need to be much shorter in nature and with that I'd benefit from being in a larger group.

No worries though, I'll still enjoy watching you all in your streams of the event :)

Nonsense! there is a place for everybody and that is why we pratice! you don't have to light up the lap charts, just enjoy. let us know which car and what length and how many and what times you are good for and let the rest of us (noel) have the headache of fitting people in :)

i love how you quote him: "stuff" xD

first of all, if you get some good practice everyone can be fast and consistent even the most unlucky of people :).
and even if someone accidently crashes the car during the race even though they had good practice, it would in no way "kill the event for the team". crashes happen to the best of us. (le mans 2016) ;)
besides i think nearly all of us drive to have a good/fun experience with the team not to win.

so yeah...

We haven't even started practicing for this, @Kinger! We'll probably spend a good portion of the two weeks leading up to Sebring turning laps, plus iRacing Official Blancpain and IMSA series will be there the week before the Sebring 12 Hours. If you don't want to commit, that is okay, but if I were you I wouldn't dismiss the event until at least the last week. I wouldn't want you to drop out of the team on the Friday before the race, obviously, but I do hope that you at least give it an honest go before you make your decision. You won't see any improvement in your results or become any more comfortable with the car/track if you don't get some, or better yet A LOT, of seat time in! And getting that time in with #PracticePals is a great way to avoid the monotony or frustration of doing it alone!

The way iRacing defines minimum drive time (unless its changed since they brought it out) is:

0.25 x [Hours of Race / Drivers on Team]

On just a two driver team, minimum drive time would equate to just 1.5 hours. That could probably be achieved with two stints in the Daytona Prototype, and is easily achieved with two stints in a GT3 car!

0.25 x [ 12 / 2 ]
0.25 x [ 6 ]
= 1.5

With a three driver team, minimum "Fair Share" drive time would be just one hour! Either way, you'll probably have to do a minimum two stints, as the DP can't make it a full hour, and GT3 would be pretty close, and I'm not recommending you just do one or two stints, but don't feel like you're not contributing just because you can't do 4-6 hours of driving either!

the times I posted above are pretty fast, the time set by me was more than likely in very grippy weather as I am currently getting 1:56 dead with a full tank of fuel.

In the set I am currently using I can probably find another 0.5 -1 second while still leaving it drive-able for a 55 minute stint. I think consistent 1:55-56 laps over the 12 hours without getting too many optionals will place well in most splits.

set posted below so hopefully we can get some improvements, if anyone has a better set please post it so we can all get some pratice in with it. be sure to put 76 litres in!

Don't forget those times I posted are from the world record list. that is as fast as ANYONE has been in iRacing, the weather would have been as good as can be and the fastest time most likely had low fuel and draft. If you are the only one with a set so far then post it Sam. we have to start somewhere :)

when i have something solid i'll post it. at the moment i am trying to remove understeer at braking/ corner-entry and make the car more stable over bumps. (softer front arb???)
i also want to drive a full 120 liter stint before i start throwing setups at people

If you're messing with the dampers because of bumps, Sam, you also might want to try to stiffen the high-speed compression and set the high-speed rebounds 1-2 clicks lower than that, for both rear and front. This made my set go from unstable to very stable at Road Atlanta.

Softer front ARB should help on turn-in at the risk of overloading the outside tires mid-corner.

i love you! <3
this is just what i was looking for

stiffer is higher number right?

I've not started working on a set for the Merc yet so I better get my ass in gear I think.

Actually I've been using the baselines a lot lately and there all pretty good all be it slow. I usually end up adjusting rear ARB, wing, ride height (front mostly), tire pressure and rear toe.

Oh ya, spring set 3 ftw!

try this it's close to baseline but with some changes in there and it's ultra stable thanks to noël and his mom jokes.

also check the notes to see what i experienced while driving.

it also has spring set 3 ;)

Nejtun, I tried your C7 set and while I found it stable overall I didn't like how it handled over curbs. I often got loose when going into T3 and coming out of Tower (T13).

I loaded my set from last year and thought it handled a bit better over curbs. I'm not sure about the tires yet. It feels like they are a ridiculous amount faster on lap 1 than on lap 3 but maybe that's the car. My fastest time so far is a 1:55.0 in default weather.

update on merc:
this setup is overall stable and i like the handling. all 4 tires are also exactly the same temperature and wear after a long stint
-good mid corner grip (also while coasting)
-no excessive amount of understeer or oversteer

it tends to oversteer sometimes at high speed corner exit but it's almost gone when you drive it well. the biggest problem i think is that it's pretty unstable during braking.

i have the wing on a high setting so that might be something to work on for top speed but for now i'm just gonna focus on turning laps. consistent and fast.

current best lap time 2:02.3 default weather 20% track usage afternoon

can someone else who drives the merc give me their opinion ion this set? ty ;)

Noel I shall give yours a try as soon as I get home, I am down to a consistent 1:55.9 with my own set, I was kinda hoping you would drag at least two seconds from me dammit!
I wasn't really having issues with the kerbs though, but for all but the very flat ones I was staying off of them due to the amount of optionals they were causing over a full tank (4- 8 seconds for barely running them)
I will let you know anyway and throw you some more fuel data from it if you need

@Noodleguitar your set is pretty nice , but the tyres were really high after 2 laps so i went down two clicks, it got faster and faster after that \o/
it almost geaered out on the long straights, can we go a bit longer on 6th without losing anything? 12 hours of rev limiter if we are following someone may snap our minds :D

I'll check it out in a day or two and get back with you. Thanks for the time you've put into this set so far. Noel and I are backing out of Bathurst so I'll have more time to focus on Sebring.
