After an off-week for the special event of the Six Hours of the Glen, the Band of Others Blancpain Sprint Series stays in New York following IMSA at Watkins Glen International. Initially raced through the roads of Watkins Glen, New York, a permanent race course was built in 1956 which has hosted all manner of motorsports, from F1, to NASCAR, to sports cars and more.
The track features multiple layouts which share the same signature 90 degree first righthander and esses. A busstop at the end of the back straight is one difference which can make or break a lap, or a car, if not taken right. Through the carousel, a fast right hander, you'll either wind up going down the chute into the boot section with a fast downhill lefthander that is incredibly tricky, or continue through the carousel for another long straight. The boot features a number of intricate turns all of which require different speeds and favor different cars. Exiting the boot is a tricky uphill slow yet long lefthander that brings you onto the straight that you had missed originally, albeit shorter, to set up for a fast left hander and a very critical right hander that will determine your speed through the front straight.
Open Qualify Session starts at 7:30 PM EST spanning 1 hour. Participants are required to put down a reasonable time (within 3 seconds of the leader) to qualify for the Q-race. If any less than 3 laps are put down, or the driver is not within 3 seconds of the leader, he/she will be put at the back of the grid.
Qualify Race starts at 8:30 PM EST spanning 40 minutes of practice and finishing off with a 20 minute, inverse grid, Qualify Race, gridded per the open qualify session prior.
Main Race starts at approx 9:45 PM EST with 10 minutes warmup and a 50 minute Race.
Grid positions carry over from Qualify Race Results.
A mandatory Pit Stop is required within a narrow 5 minute Pit Window at the 25 - 30 minute mark to take on tires only.
