B2O S3R4 Blancpain League Race: Friday night July 8, 2016

The Band of Others Blancpain heads to Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari... or Imola as it is better known for the first time ever. Known in various other iterations and configurations, Imola has hosted many Italian Grand Prix, alongside Monza. The track received it's final, most recent layout in 2007 which holds an FIA grade of 1 despite not having hosted a Grand Prix in its current form.

The 4.9 km circuit will likely not favor any one particular car make, as all seem to be fast in the hands of a competent driver. Marked with the treachorous Tamburello corners and the Tosa tight left, a car that accelerates fast out of slow to mid speed corners might gain a slight edge here. A high wing angle is not as critical as cars have to deal with high speed corners only minimally. Straight line speed is also not as critical but could set up for the best passing zone on the circuit, going into turn 2, the left-hander starting the Tamburello corners. Nailing the final two corners of Rivazza is difficult and important, there, among many other spots, is an oppotunity to spin tires, lose time, go off track, receive a penalty, or worse.

Open Qualify Session starts at 7:30 PM EST spanning 1 hour. Participants are required to put down a reasonable time (within 3 seconds of the leader) to qualify for the Q-race. If any less than 3 laps are put down, or the driver is not within 3 seconds of the leader, he/she will be put at the back of the grid.

Qualify Race
starts at 8:30 PM EST spanning 40 minutes of practice and finishing off with a 20 minute, inverse grid, Qualify Race, gridded per the open qualify session prior.

Main Race starts at approx 9:45 PM EST with 10 minutes warmup and a 50 minute Race.

Grid positions carry over from Qualify Race Results.

A mandatory Pit Stop is required within a narrow 5 minute Pit Window at the 25 - 30 minute mark to take on tires only.

This is really a fun track and should make for some exciting racing.

Remember folks, you can always join us in Practice Pals Sessions Monday and Wednesday nights weekly starting at 8PM EST. This is where a lot of the setup work and Race prep is done leading up to League night events.

Gotcha! You just admitted the Audi is OP :)

Oh and nerf the Fjörd plz, damn fake-Australians and their winning of races.

Another drop for me, little accident at work yesterday. S&R guy ran over my toe with a pallet jack I'm out for a couple days. Nothing broken but pretty black and blue with some deep cuts . Now down to 8 digits

The less fords the better. If you were driving an Audi maybe that wouldn't have happened. Have you tried not wearing sandals to work though?

In all seriousness that sucks but good thing nothing broke. That's frustrating for sure. You could try mouse and keyboard. It has worked well for other members here in the past.

ffs I may not be able to make it tonight after all. I completely forgot my boss is off today and half of next week so I'm doing 2 jobs right now.

I have scheduling that needs to be done for next week at the end of the day so I may not be able to get home near in time.

Noel, if I'm not on can you take care of the Sessions?

Also, please don't change up the format this week and stick to the 3, 1 hr sessions because I'm pretty sure shortening any of the Sessions will do you no good. Even if you choose to end a Session early (by even 5 minutes) you'll still have to wait for it to expire for the results to be useful in the next Sessions Grid order.

I'm 99.9% sure this is the case and the reason I use all 60 minutes in each Session.

We'll keep the ball rolling.

As for sessions, we'll keep em the same this week for sure. I understand why we make them full 60 minute sessions... but i'm going to post my reply to the league discussion thread rather than continue the discussion in 2 different threads.

Sure, I can host the sessions if you're not around. We'll have to see though if there are enough people to actually race, hopefully so. The qualifying session will be started regardless of how many are online at 7:30 EDT.

Thanks Noel.

Remember to set the grid and then add the remaining drivers from the League afterwards. It seems to be the only way that League Drivers not initially set in the grid can actually join the session.

I just did an official GT3 race at Imola, and it was a disaster! I was car #2, but I qualified as #17 on the grid. After the race, I noticed that my lap times were over 2 seconds behind people with lower iRating than me. I just don't understand how I'm going to squeeze more time out of my laps...

Anyway, here's a funny/tragic story from the race: After the inevitable carnage at the start, I got up to 8th place. At the first chicane after the start/finish line in lap 7, I was one second behind another car, and right at my braking point, I suddenly sneezed (believe it or not), so I missed it completely and ran into the back of him, wrecking his car. I survived, but I was back at 20th place. I managed to get up to 15th by the end of the race, though. Not much of a comfort, being car #2...

Sneezing? That is almost as bad as a dog humping your leg! Unlucky... How was the weather for your session?

It was murder on mine and the tire fall off is insane. Very scary by the end of the race. I had to keep moving my braking point back, and I did not 3/4s of the race through in T2 (entering the Tamberllo corners, the lefthander)... I went too deep, turned in late, completely fucked T3- the right hander, as I barreled over the hurtul barrier pyramid things... and spun. Still managed 6th though but ruined my T5.

I need a penalty. I killed someone and it was my fault and I should have served a drive through for it but didn't.
Glutton for punishment are we? Perhaps we can have Duke take a look and let him decide. Depending on what Duke decides, either give an after-the-race time penalty or apply a drive through this Friday? I'm not sure.

Serve the Drive Through on the next race of equal value. This means if you killed someone during the Qualify Race then take a Drive Through during the next Qualify Race. If you killed someone during the Main Race then serve the Drive Through then.

Do not slow down and let people pass on your way to the Pits, race to the Pits as if if were a tire change during a regular race.

No stop and go required, a Drive Through is good enough.

Lastly, I cannot state how much I appreciate your insistence on serving this Penalty. It's a tremendous show of character and honesty which I think is rare particularly in iRacing.
