Battlefield 1

It's been a ploy just to get people buying Premium, all of their DLC is.

If you intend to play BF (100+ hours) you're absolutely nuts if you don't buy Premium anyway which all of this will be freely available in.

I can't believe I'm defending them somewhat here; I hope I don't live to regret it EA/DICE!!!

I mean I wasn't surprised they'd do the DLC/premium season pass thing. But to completely exclude one of the primary nations behind a paywall is ridiculous. Considering I bought premium for BF3 and BF4 and never really played any of the expansion content I doubt I'll go for premium again, if I bother with the game at all.

I've spent the last few hours watching videos and reading about Battlefield 1. All I can say is that I'm immensely looking forward to it... more than I have in probably over a decade for a BF game (BF2, which in the end was a bit of disappointment for me).

There's a lot of old features coming back (riding on vehicles) and some crappy ones gone (Commander mode). Gameplay seems a tad slower than Bf4 which is some of the best news IMO and spotting seems to not be as prevalent.

I mean, with the hype and success this game could start bringing back some classic, historic battles. And I don't mean just EA.

Here's a great 11 minute summery of BF1 by LevelCap, it covers a lot of ground and there's a lot of former little things from early Battlefield I noticed.

Now, all I need is the b&m store 10 minutes from my place to get some of the custom 1080's in stock. It's gonna be a wild ride!

Against my finer judgement I find myself looking forward to this as well.

I was actually watching an XFactorGaming Video where he stated the 3D spotting appears to have been overhauled so it's no longer a Doritos shooting simulator.

That's one thing that has always really bothered me ever since I first saw it in BF2 back in 2005. Spotting was one thing and then you had the Commander and UAV and between all of this it absolutely took out any element of surprise. You had no chance - I can still remember having a squad on Dragon's Valley way in the hills trying to flank and cap a back flag to make things interesting and possibly win and out of nowhere the artillery rained down on us. That instantly sucked some of the enjoyment out of BF2 for me. Although it's been tweaked more than once, the premise of spotting has been around since; I've adapted but never liked it.

I think the spotting in BF1 has been toned down, the doritos seem to be quite quick to disappear from the map. Hard to say what's gonna happen as this is pre-alpha so many changes instore before release.

So glad they've gotten away from modern combat, was absolutely getting burned out on it. Perhaps this winter I'll put some quality time into BF1 instead of Rust.

why not take away all icons and logos and spot like u used to in WW1, with your voice? no friends ? to bad , no spotters! at least u will see some surprise attacks and cool gameplay by groups who do are organised.

At least a little bit of good news about the game:

Still looks like reskinned battlefield 4 though. Not sure anything can be done about it but something makes me think WWI wasn't quite as fast paced. That looks to be a borderline twitch shooter.

I got an alpha code but so far I've only played a few minutes. What I can say is that spotting is toned down, you cannot look in the general direction of an enemy and spot him, and you can't spot someone halfway across the map it seems. There is also no audio spotting (which means you do not show up on the mini map when you fire your weapon).

How did you manage to get a closed Alpha Code Johnny?

Well, I'm a special snowflake and you are just a moosefucker, so they picked me instead of you.

In all seriousness, you have to sign up for the battlefield insider program which basically means their newsletter and then hope to get picked randomly.

I signed up for that too Duke. I guess they only give the codes to the "special" ones.

Have you recorded any gameplay footage JK? Would be interested to see how it's shaping up!

You know I love you Duke, I just like to say/write the word moosefucker.

I'm not recording my gameplay at all (besides I think the only people allowed to record are the bigger YouTubers, I would be breaking the NDA) and have only played a few minutes so far, so I don't have much to report. I hope to have some more time to check it out during the weekend though.

Want to get this game, but I heard in beta there were a multitude of Aim bots and wall hacks or is this just overblown rhetoric.

BTW the Hello

There's always going to be that sort of thing but of all the time I played I think I only ever ran into it once.

...and then I just switched servers.

It's not as bad as some are reporting.

Ok I went ahead and picked it up, multiplayer looked a lot of fun if you are not bothered by k/d ratio (which I never am)!

I played the first 10 minutes of the campaign so far just to see how it ran with Ultra settings @1440p 165Hz and omfg. If the rest of the game is anything as good as the opening 10 minutes I am in for an incredible experience.

It's strange though, all the time I am playing this game there is a profoundly sombre undercurrent running through it. I guess it's because the game is giving us a small taste of what WW1 was like for these unfortunate souls that experienced it first hand. And I'm sure the things you see and play through are nothing compared to what the horrors of trench warfare were actually like. I've not had this feeling with any other Battlefield games so if they were shooting to hit you in the feels they really hit the bullseye...
