Battlefield 3 Armoured Kill Impressions

As much as I hate to say it, it's total crap.

I want so much to love it but it is so ridiculously imbalanced that there is just no way I can even hope to enjoy it. Lock on weapons are ridiculous and bring armour to a halt.

The maps themselves are very large and beautiful really but there size is there weakness as you just can't get anywhere without a vehicle.

No where is the imbalance more noticeable than in the air. If one team has a few good pilots, you're completely screwed.

I thought this would be a great addon for armoured gameplay but so far the only class that this seems to work somewhat well for is snipers.

Maybe Johnny has a bit more positive things to say but so far this is easily as disappointing for me as Close Quarters was.

I'm going to force myself to spend more time in in and see if I can salvage something out of it but so far my first impressions of the game is that it's a real let down.

...maybe I expected too much?

Well, I have yet to download it...dam, I thought it was part of the 2GB download we had the other day... So I am still to play it. Dukester, even on the ORIGINal version of BF3, if the pilots were good on one side you got owed, you just need different tactics... and if your on by yourself it's kinda hard to really do anything effective, it might be better if there were a few on, instead of dying alone you can die with the others in TS...as a group you might say. And I thought it would have been just straight tank Vs tank Vs infantry Vs other sh!t not airpower...oh well I guess that's what i get for not really reading about it. So until I play it I guess I am just blowing smoke out my butt..

I only plaaed 3 or so rounds so far. Tank Superiority is not that great (still like it more than Gun Master), but I quite enjoyed CQ on the large maps, especially Alborz and Bandar - and I spent a lot of time on foot, plus I had really bad rubberbanding (probably my connection last night).

I think this can be loads of fun with a few people on TS, but I agree that this can be diminished if the other team has ace pilots; but with average people in the air, I do not see it as imbalanced.

We'll see how it plays out once people get to know the maps better, but this is definitely a step in the right direction IMHO.

Well I don't know what the hell you guys are talking about....these are awesome maps...FRIKKEN dunderklumpen awesome.... I pwned these maps...my first map was 3 kills 37 deaths....then it got better....I pretty much evened up the rest of the maps... and ya if you have good pilots it can make for a crappy map.... butI think these are pretty cool...like all new maps it can take some getting used to.....

I'm not saying really that their bad maps, their beautiful maps but they have horrible balancing issues. If one team has air superiority and a few SOFLAM's up, you are literally screwed.

The range for vehicle lock is ridiculous so all you need is a few SOFLAM's and a few Javelin Junkies and the other teams armor is pretty much locked down.

The other thing is that on a 64 player server there simply is not enough vehicles to go around. You literally have a choice of waiting for one to spawn or hoofing it out to the nearest capture point which you most likely will never get to.

For the first time in a long time I found myself playing Recon and it was by far the most fun I had on the map. I was able to slowly work my way in on foot and then place a spawn beacon to keep the point under our control.

I'm definitely going to give them more of a try but last night I found myself joining a B2K Server just to get some action and actually kill something for a change.
