Have they messed with money in one of there recent patches? I haven't played in about a week... jumped on and my city that was making 20k+ per week is now in the red by a few thousand. Nothing changed in my city I'm pretty sure.

Not that I know off... Any traffic problems in your city, some problems can really cascade at times? Sometimes buildings upgrading can have effect too. For example if a bunch of your commercial buildings upgrade, they want more customers, but if you don't have population growth/extra zoning to match the increased customer and workforce demand, shops will become unhappy, abandon, decrease general happiness leading to people to leave your city etc leading to less income. Stuff like that.

Sometimes zoning large areas in the past can have effect too, especially residential areas. You get entire waves of people retiring and instead of working and shopping they switch over to visiting parks instead, lowering income. Eventually it can result in a death wave too, causing hearses to clog up traffic, which in turn leads to people and goods not reaching industrial and commercial in time, which causes problems again too. It could really be a bunch of things.

I can't think it would be any of those... though the wave effect I suppose is plausible. I could see losing a few thousand bucks or so to that, but a swing of well over 20 grand? I think it was a patch thing only because I've not played for a week and it was immediate when I logged on, it didn't slowly tick down....

Maybe I have a mod active which affects it, I'll have to check it. Thankfully my treasury is well over 6 million.

Yeah, mods might be possible too, I haven't got too many, but some mod makers have problems with setting the properties for sure. If you do find out, let us know!

It was indeed a mod. I downloaded a mod that was a population rebalance. Basically making it so 5 families didn't live in tiny houses, but also adding more families to large buildings. The mod makes sense but will drastically change everything in the middle of a game. Would be better to start anew with it.
