Best world cup I've seen in my lifetime, great stuff, and only a few weeks to wait until the start of the premier league.

Now if everyone could stop beating us at the game we invented that would be great mmm'kay?

It was a great overall world cup, but the final game was kind of dull. The best game I seen was Belgium vs US that game was awesome.

I'd just like it noted that the U.S. lost to Germany by a far smaller ratio than Brazil did.

The U.S. are going to be a force to be reckoned with, they gave a really good account of themselves at this tournament. England were there usual shambles, we expect nothing less in this country. It's a cruel Irony that we have the best league in the world but a pathetic national team. But hey, the good thing is we have low expectations. If we got smashed 7-1 by Germany we would be "Yup, saw that coming" and we'd have gone and put the kettle on. No problems.

The football in the U.S. should improve, I mean look at the size of your population compared to us. You've got 600 bazillion in your gene pool, we've got to pick 11 mugs from about 20 people lol

Yeah, but I gather our national team is kinda old, and our professional soccer league is still struggling to gain popularity. The problem, as I see it, is that American football is such a HUGE marketing presence and part of our culture that bringing in "European" sports like soccer is just never gonna work really well. It'll increase in popularity, but it'll never unseat the NFL.

It's subjective of course but it's pretty widely recognised that the Barclays Premier League is the best in the world. Which do you think is the best, and what criteria do you base your opinion on?

It certainly is one of the best and interesting leagues, and there are a few teams who can win it, so it looks more balanced than eg. the German league, OTOH it currently lacks a real powerhouse that can win a European competition and does not play the most attractive football compared to Spanish or German clubs.

Coming from a Yank, I would would say top to bottom the English Premiere League is the best in the world. Not to say the a top team from the other Euro leagues can't beat them. The overall quality of league is better.

Personally, I base my opinion of best league in the world on entertainment value. Last season was one of the best in recent memory, although every season is great. ANY team can beat any other team, a lot of the other leagues are very dull because the win ratios of one or two teams are much higher than the rest of the league.

In the Premier League the drama and upsets are week in week out, and the characters are great to watch and listen to.

Of course, based on Champions League success the Premier League falls way behind, but for me entertainment is what it's all about, not just the winning. And for that, you just cannot beat the Premier League
