Re: Daytona 24 B2O team?

Now that we've gotten this far into it I'm guessing there's no roster changes coming anymore so I'll put together the Team this week.

Also, does anyone know if Team Paints in TradingPaints will be working by then? If so I need to alter the skin to first names above the doors and add country flags as well.

On the iRacing forum I did happen across a post where someone said TradingPaints is hoping to have team paints working in the coming week. So there is a small chance.

Also, Noel, if you could post a hotlap video on youtube that would be awesome. I'd like to do a bit of comparing.
I would but I can't because the idiots at EasyAntiCheat are blocking the newest version of Fraps for no apparent reason. I will post a replay of a lap when I practice at Daytona again. A lap with race fuel I assume?

What you're describing on the tire wear seems familiar to me. The McLaren is always very good on fresh tires. After that you get quite a long period where it turns in all right but it kind of starts washing out in the middle of a corner and you have to wait extra long to get on the throttle again. At the end it will also become a bit snappy and less stable under braking.

The best thing to do probably is try your best not to overdrive and go too fast into a corner if you're experiencing pushing in the middle of a corner. If some trail-braking won't help you turn any more then you're already understeering too much.

I don't know about the other cars, but the McLaren also needs some time to cool down the tires after you've overcooked them. When I spun at Sebring it took me almost a full lap for the tires to go back to normal again.

That would be really odd if the cars' tires had different cool rates. They theoretically should be all the exact same. So hopefully they are.

As for qualifying and starting. I think I'd prefer to not qualify but still start, and just start the race from the very back of the pack. Personally I'd rather do that than start in the pits, though that is going to give us a shitty pit stall. (If you believe it affects anything)

Pit stall doesn't really affect us other than having less time to see it. Once you're out, go far right to stay clear of anyone else.

Re: Daytona 24 B2O team?

Oh thanks Duke, I'll try it out.

Haven't used iSpeed in a while but I'll see if I can run it. Does it work on replays or only on live racing?

If i remember correctly, you sort of have to "Record" with iSpeed (live) and then you can use what iSpeed collected to check it out in iAnalyze.

Re: Daytona 24 B2O team?

I've done some crawling in the forums to get some more information on the event.

I still don't know if and how many fast repairs there are. One guy says there are none but he did not give me a source. I wouldn't count on any.

To my surprise, qualifying and practice sessions are already up. Regarding qualifying, drafting can be protested if you abuse it. Basically, if you sacrifice your own lap to create a slip stream for somebody else then it can be seen as cheating.

It seems that the race will have dynamic weather (night) and qualifying is 20 minutes open sessions, with what looks like default weather.

The grid size is only 43 cars for some reason, so there will be quite a few splits I assume.

I wouldn't count on any fast repairs either.

Did they add the ability for multiple cars to have the same pit box? I can't remember if they added that last patch with Nurburgring. I thought so but maybe not. I think there are only 43 stalls at Daytona, but if that feature was added you could probably fit in more cars.

Re: Daytona 24 B2O team?

They do have shared pits. The problem is that all tracks also need manual assigning of pit boxes (eg. car #55 goes here).

Daytona actually already has this (along with Sebring, Nurburgring and some others) so that's why everyone thinks it's weird to have only 43 spots for the race instead of 60.

After Spa24, I am just fine with 43 cars on track. Specially with redneck proto there too :)

Kyle, will you be putting in the 10-15 warmup time at start of race into the schedule?

Re: Daytona 24 B2O team?

Current stint start/end times are at the top of the hour, but there is a warmup time at start of the race, shifting all of that by whatever the length is. I'll be present for most of the 24h, so no worries there, but others may get messed up. THat's all.

Re: Daytona 24 B2O team?

In addition to that stints probably won't last exactly one hour, so the guy racing 20 hours in might have a significantly different start time. And if we have to go into the pits unexpectedly then the schedule will be even more off :)

Re: Daytona 24 B2O team?

I'm still not sure what you mean Dino? I'll be up at in the pit probably at 7-730 eastern so it's not like I'll just be diving in.

As for Noel's point that is very true. That's why my #1 concern when creating the schedule was to try and make sure every driver starts their stint from the co-driver position so if they're late a few minutes, it doesn't affect anything.

Drivers that DO NOT start from a codriver position (Noel, Ken and myself I believe) need to make sure you're there a little bit ahead of time just in case. This is also why I said also the codriver should make sure the next hour block's codriver shows up before ending his stint.

It's far from exact so everyone should anticipate being early. Don't show up five minutes before the start of your stint if at all possible.

Noel if you go through and make your patented fuel usage chart, we can better plot out when driver changes would be. Obviously we can never account for any unexpected stops.

Re: Daytona 24 B2O team?

What he means is that the schedule is not adjusted for the warm-up, which is 15 minutes long and starts at 13:00 GMT. So each stint by default starts at 15 minutes past the hour.

I was thinking about this earlier. I'm going to change it up a bit. I doesn't make sense to have the fuel value for each lap because it would have to update after about 2 regular stints or so.

I'm planning to estimate for each stint what time it starts and on which lap the pit stop occurs, based on the fuel usage and lap times. It would be nice if multiple people could use FuelBuddy in the practice and could let me know what their fuel usage per minute is so I can take the average of our team.

Re: Daytona 24 B2O team?

So really the race starts at 815? I think the times work so everyone will report fifteen minutes early.

When I run a stint or two I'll definitely run fuel buddy. I'll let you know how it goes.
