DayZ Server Interest

I do and I can get some of the reddit guys on it to as there's at least 5 guys there that play it.

I admit though, I'm really hoping we can get it to feel similar to the way DayZ first felt in that you start off isolated and really have to survive against the odds. Sure there's a PVP danger but those confrontations were far less significant when compared to just getting enough food and drink to survive.

I do like the idea of vehicles scattered everywhere in theory but making them driveable isn't a good idea either. The cars everywhere should just be environmental enhancements, not something you can just jump into and haul ass to a big city, military base or airfield.

The pulling up to a gas station and having it refuel your vehicle also makes no sense. The whole cumbersome Jerry Can method is far more satisfying as again, I think that's how it would be.

Slightly off topic but I hope Rocket really considers having vehicles everywhere, even traffic jams littered by hundreds of vehicles in varying states of disrepair. Maybe some even run but you have to find the keys to take it or perhaps stumble upon some docs in a library somewhere that educate you on how to hotwire a vehicle.

Back on topic though, I hated the bl00d sucker map personally. I think the idea's ok but the implementation of it in the last server we played was just too OP and ridiculous IMHO. I'll be perfectly happy to never play that style again.

There have been comments about Chernarus and "the worlds greatest walking simulator" but I'd be lying if I didn't enjoy that aspect the most. To me, it's the most feasibly accurate portrayal of what would happen in a zombie apocalypse.

I think the fact I like to melee zombies and be a loot whore (just about any loot) is what keeps me perfectly happy with the vanilla DayZ. Also, it was by far the best Team Play experience I've had in years and one I won't soon forget which is certainly playing toward my POV.

Sorry, I know my response is a bit more than what you're asking for but I think I was trying to state that I'll play it if it appeals to me. I think some of the changes brought in by others are great but there are some aspects that aren't that great either.

My hope is we can simply use the good stuff and keep out the rest like the A-Bombs, auto-refuel, and drivable vehicles every 30'.

Everything can be adjusted to ones wishes ;)

Oh yah, ill play!

Ok, kind of repeating myself. But you should check out some of the stuff they did on the Zombie Infection servers.

They added "bases" in places like devil's castle, polana and klen (on the top of the mountain, near NEAS) where it looks like people tried to make a stand or medical facilities were set up. They also just added a huge mess of broken cars between elektro and cherno, complete with loot spawns and even a train. I don't know if there's any way to get something like that for your own server, but it may be something to look into.

I feel that it really improves the atmosphere, while not giving you too much, and helps the "story" in that it gets you thinking "Now, I wonder what they tried doing here before they failed".

Also, I do wish the auto fuel worked like in regular arma, though it shouldn't be any faster than using the jerry cans. I was thinking the other day that it would be cool to add something like a manual fuel pump. It would take up like 8 spaces and wouldn't refuel any faster, but it would keep fueling until you cancelled the action.

As it is, I can land right by a tank and just continually refuel for 20 minutes and get a full chopper by myself.

Well paint my ass and call me dusty..... of course i'll play... And with Duke.. I liked the early days... hunting for food..supplies. It would be cool if the modders could add JSRS and have the Zombies randomly spawn, that way you would never be sure if a player had spawned the Zombies or not, a way of keeping you on your toes. I do miss the middle of the night runs across the map to bring medical supplies, to people. And yes a more closer looking apocolypse type enviroment....

So no to the Namalsk Zombie sucker.. and yes to everything else.

Me the Zombie Whisperer....

I'm curious about this, but I'm not really interested in the PvP aspect. If this was JUST our server, and not open to the public, it'd be cool to work together and team up. But I don't want to be fending off griefers.

Unfortunately Solo, DayZ is played in the sandbox of the public, so much like Eve, PvP is consented to when you log in to the server whether you like it or not. Indeed there is not much reason to pay for a server unless we do invite the public and find some new tards for the bus.

That being said, there we have a number of "loot whores" like Duke and Pepsi who prefer the PvE environment. To that end the PvP'ers are usually more than happy to provide observational and combat coverage while you are in a city, town or military base to let you know if there are spurious players around. So come on out and try the server and game, especially if you own ArmA II already it's a free adventure and TBH we could use everyone who is interested in it to come out and populate the server so we can try to pull in some numbers. Fireblade and Die Alone have already spawned more vehicles on Taviana so we can begin advertising in earnest. Come out to Taviana and have some fun with Zeds!

Well, I know that, technically, PvP is "always on." What I'm wondering is if there's a way to, like, password lock the server so it'd be more cooperative play. Us against the zombies, ya know? Or is that counterproductive? I've never played, and I don't even own ArmaII (although I think it's on sale at Steam this weekend), so I'm not sure what kind of threat the zombies really are, and how much fun it'd be to band together and fend them off, or whether the point -- after a while -- is to be fighting other players.

Knowing nothing about the game, I prefer the idea of cooperating to survive, rather than ganking each other (or dealing with random griefers) so I can steal someone's soda or whatever.

No we won't be Passwording the Server. The chances of us ever having a Private Server are resting somewhere between slim and none as they are the equivalent of burning money.

If you want to be under a constant state of duress, just follow me on a l00t wh0re mission anywhere and equip your axe.

What your describing is more of a Team Deathmatch Scenario which is quite rare in this game, that's WarZ. There is some PVP but it's not prevalent by any means, most of the time it's PVE unless your a snipetard camping a hill or an airport waiting for players to l00t.

Ok. Good to hear. I might actually grab this, then. I've never tried ArmA games, but I've heard interesting things about them. Hopefully it won't frustrate the hell out of me...

The Arma2 complete edition is 50% off on Steam right now.

I picked it up over the weekend for $19, I think. Dunno if that was 50% off, but it seemed a good deal. It's gonna take me a day and a half to install all this crap, though...
