Well the 100 k goal is achieved
I'm looking fwd to fly the "lange nase" against the P51 :p

After looking at the DCS kickstarter site, I see you're talking about the 190D-9 'Dora'. There is a well documented dogfight of Godfrey in a P-51B vs. a German ace in a D-9, Godfrey consisntently drew angle-on and the German consistently pulled his nose above effective gun angle. After many minutes of this, the result was a draw after both pilots thought better of engaging such competent man/machine combinations and withdrew. The D-9 had 20% better power loading (W/T), P-51B has 20% better wing loading (W/S) the winner should be determined by piloting skills and the type of fight engaged in. Now bring in the P-51D. The P-51D was kitted with the Merlin 70, which increased the hp to 1790 from 1450. Needless to say, if both aircraft are modeled correctly without the anti-'Murica bias this should prove problematic for the Dora driver. Still better wing loading, and the power loading is now equivalent. As far as best prop powered fighters of the war, without regards to range considerations, it should be noted that the Yak-9's Ki-84 'Frank' are worthy to be included in the conversation, especially if the Japanese aircraft are flown with high quality gasoline that the Japanese couldn't get at the end of the war.

Absolutely, this will be a interesting scenario where tactics and skill will be of utmost
importance in the outcome. Since the P51 turns better/more agile the Dora pilot has to take advantage of hit and disengage tactics and teamwork with wingman.
However the advantage isn't such that the Dora is a sitting duck :icon_twisted:

The flyable Dora will be available long before DCS:1944 goes alpha. Best tactics for the Dora is to employ the 20mm in a dive out of the sun

I just reduced my pledge to 40 USD as I don't see any benefit in the higher tiers and the map extension will not get funded.

With the problems regarding LOD and AI that DCS currently has, it will be interesting to see how much combat fun we'll get. Flying fun will be awesome of course.

The access to the Dora is for the Dora beta in early 2014, not for the dcs 1944 alpha/beta stage, it won't be ready untill then that's why I pledged enough to get that. I'll get a spare P51 as well that i can give away ;)
