Do we want to open up and be visible for 'outsiders'? What I'm thinking of is giving any user of Fragtard some level of access to our forum or at least know that we exists.
The reason for this as I see it is to give other users here some awareness of us and what we do and maybe get more people joining us on Arma2 event and flightnights and so forth.
Basically opening up for recruiting via Fragtard.net.
Or we can stay hidden as we do today. I just realized that I forgot this option in the poll
Just vote for the last option and write something along 'no change' or similar.
I want to hear (read?) your opinions on this matter before making a decision. This is our forum and we decide together what to do with it.
This poll will last for seven days from now, so when the poll is closed a decision will be done based on the highest vote.

It's my first poll so it is a bit messy, but bear with me :D
This is the long text that should have accompanied the poll (but the text had to be shortened to fit the poll).

Do we:
  1. Want people to see the forum Category Only when on the main forum index with a locked icon on it and instructions on how to gain entry?
  2. Want people to be able to view the forum discussions as well but not be able to respond to them without gaining proper access?
  3. Have limited discussion access in the form of responding to current topics but no ability to create new topics?
  4. Have full access similar to the rest of the site?
  5. Give them some other form of access or keep it as it is today? Please comment in a post to clarify.

I vote for having full access to everything except a "officers mess" that only we can se and post in. There we can talk about the things pertaining 332 and not flant it for the public eye :D

I voted for two reasons, one so I could see how the voting screen looks and fix it in the theme and two because I have flown with the 332 in the past.

I never truly understood the secrecy to be perfectly honest? I just don't know how you will ever get a lot of new membership without exposing yourselves at least somewhat to intrigue others to join in?

I voted for full forum access but I must admit that I do like HaJa's idea of creating an Officers Mess to discuss Clan Items that aren't really the business of the general public.

I voted for option no. 5: give them some other form of access.
I think HaJa's idea of having a form of "officers mess" was quite good. That way, we can hide certain topics from the public that only members of 332 Viking can see and still have a forum where we can establish contact with potential new players and let them see what we're all about.
New members will have a trial period like before and only when passing this time/test will they gain access to the Officers Mess B-)

If I could change my vote I would. I think this option is the best overall and allows you to share what needs to be shared and privatize what needs to be private.

Exactly! And since the idea of having an "Officers Mess" have the most votes we'll go for this option.
So, Duke, what do you think of implementing something like this. Is it possible to do?

Yup, not a problem.

Would I be correct in assuming that everyone who has access now has access to the Officers Mess?

Also, do I then just make this forum public or do any of the posts here belong in the Officers Mess?

Yes, everyone that is a member now will have access to the Offices Mess.
To stay on the safe and speedy path, let's just move all posts until now into the new Officers Mess. Then we'll begin to populate the Everyones Mess with new and political correct posts :D

KK, I'll get to work on it right away.

I think the stickies should be copied to the public forum though shouldn't they?

I forgot to reply to this thread, but I think the option that you guys chose is perfect. Little bit more exposure doesn't hurt and might get some extra bodies in. We don't have that much to hide, do we? :D For the special things we can use an other forum like suggested.

Great! Yes, the stickies should be copied to the public forum :)
(Since you have already created the Officers Mess I'm sure you've copied them already - sorry for the late reply. I've been netless a couple of days...)

Ooops! Come to think of it - the sticky post "All pilots read..." must not be copied over to the public forum. It contains wrong info and it would also give outsiders access to all our files and stuff. We don't like that ;)
I think the only post to be copied over is our "Six Updater..." sticky, because everyone joining us should know what mods we use and this will help them to be compatible.

Sorry for the mess!

Six Updater has been copied over the the public 332 Viking Squadron Forum. :)
