Drop week for me

After all that practice I'm saddened to say that I just can't risk racing Road Atlanta this week.

I cannot stay connected to a server for more than half a practice session and taking that knowledge into a race is just suicide.

I was 30 laps into a full fuel run minutes ago in a primarily empty practice session and still disconnected half way through.

As far as I can tell, the connection at my end is fine as I've been monitoring it for 16 hours now and only have dropped twice; once last night very briefly and this morning upon resetting my router.

I think this is why some of you were seeing me blink in practice this week because there is clearly an issue somewhere between my connection and iRacing servers.

It wouldn't be so bad if my stats were as strong as they were 3 weeks ago but since I've been on a stat plummet lately I'm starting to become concerned about losing my A license. If I lose it through racing then that's ok but losing through a connection issue is just plain stupid.

I'm actually going to create a thread at iRacing about this issue and ask if they consider tweaking the stat system to count you where you were at time of dropped connection rather than at the end of the race.

Their probably not going to entertain the idea but it would be a nice feature because you can really lose a lot if your connection craps out.

What a shame but probably for the better not to risk it. Good chance for you to get more practice with the G27 and all. Maybe for the hell of it, try connecting to Australian and Euro servers just to see what happens. I cannot imagine it being worse than your current state of issues.

Probably will never happen though, because then people who are losing or close to max penalty will just pull their internetcable to prevent point loss...

Well my connection between home and iRacing Servers seemed to work itself out during the course of the day so I decided to risk racing after all.

I'm still not sure what the issue is because I've been monitoring my connection for 24 hours now and have only dropped connection once outside of resetting my router.

Anyway, no drop week for me after all, yay :)

I hate to do it but I may not be able to get enough practice in to race this week. I've been putting in extra work at my day job and I'm just wiped when I get home.

I've also been fighting some type of bug since late last week and it looks to be getting the better of me so I'm trying to get all the sleep I can but it's shallow and unrestful.

Anyway, if you're wondering why I'm being a ghost even into the weekend this should hopefully let you know why.

Sorry all.

Sorry to hear that. Feel better. If it makes you feel any better, it seems the Macca is terrible compared to the other two cars, yet again, here at Suzuka.

With just learning the track and about 1 hour tops of practice I was able to hit an opt of low 2:00s. I think about 2:00.2xx. But that was just me hotlapping rather than trying to get the car to work. It feels VERY slow. It might be just me, and I'm just trying a couple random setups via SS. I can get my opt down a bit more. I am having trouble in turn 13 (Is that the infamous spoon?) and coming out of the esses / setting up for turn 7. Sacrificing turn 6 is a must to set up for it but still it seems like I could be a lot faster through there. I'm sure I could be faster through the chicane and the tight turn 11.

Turn 13 is just difficult, I'm not sure how to best get through there. Much slow, very brakes I think.

T7 you should be able to do full throttle with fresh tires if you stay fairly close to the inside of 6. I think I let off the curb a little in the middle of T6 but make sure that I get back to the right side before T7.

You also want to go full speed through T10, hit the curb so you stay as much to the right and then brake really late. Then turn in hard and you should be able to get on the throttle after only a short while. I found that if you approach T11 more careful and try to hit the apex that you will get out wide and lose some speed on the straight in addition to corner entry.

I'll post a hot lap if/when I have time. I think my lowest so far is around 1:58.4 with qualify fuel.

If you're saying I should be able to do T7 full throttle then that is where I'm losing a huge chunk of time. I'm having to lift. Most of it is probably not setting up after T6.

T13 is tricky. If I hit the turn in correctly I'm using carrying too much speed and the subject the car to lift-off oversteer. The adjustments mid-turn is killing me but it is almost required it seems. Will have to try and set myself up better after the first bend then brake on the outside there.

Haven't driven today but I'm pretty sure T7 is full throttle for me (most of the time), maybe I lift slightly on turn 1. I do get close to the outside grass though.

T13 I see as 2 corners. I cut the first one as much as possible so that I'm able to break on the rumble strip all the way to the right. I then hold off on turning into the next left until I can get a smooth line without hitting the inside curb.

I'm hoping to do a little more testing tomorrow evening and then I can post a lap + setup.

Yeah not sure if its your setup and/or alien nature. I've done about 50 laps of practice (not enough) and haven't been able to hit it full throttle once through T7. I get a lot of power understeer coming out of there and not sure what I could tweak to minimize that. My OPT stayed pretty much even at 2:00 flat, and I can't seem to get a good best lap.

This track is an absolute nightmare. Most challenging course I've raced on to date, and I thought Mid-Ohio was very tough. This makes Ohio look like a go-kart track. There isn't an easy turn or straight. It is all hard and unforgiving. Might just sacrifice speed for a setup that I can reliably drive and not die in.
