Elite Dangerous: Horizons!

I have Horizons, been playing it for about an hour and a half.

I kid you not, I felt like a kid learning to walk again. It took me a while to figure out the se'ins for the SRV (I still don't know if I've got it set up right). I went for a trundle not really knowing what was happening. Saw two buildings in the distance and decided to investigate. Some walmart drones started firing pew pews at me so I blew them up with my pew pews (how I don't know because I don't think I had it set up properly) and I notice some canisters on the floor. "ooooh" I thought, some juicy loot perhaps? Something in these canisters was obviously worth defending with the drones and all.

Well, it kind of was of course, but in all the galaxy, of all the planets and all the possible ares to discover and loot within them, what are the chances I would find this? ffs... :icon_lol:

Epic. That's all I can say. Thanks for a great session! What a fantastic experience Horizons is :icon_cool:

Ya that was truly amazing tonight, really great fun.

I think next time I'll park my Python in a crater nose down and make a ramp out of it. If we stay within proximity of our ships they shouldn't take off.

May make for some interesting screenshots.

Oh that was a highlight definitely, using the SRV to ride on the back of your Python (stop giggling at the back) was awesome :)

Definitely worth the price of admission for last night alone.

Elite is great when on your own, but in a wing of four like we were last night all working together using comms to achieve a common goal, was my best experience yet. Thanks guys.

EDIT: I want to see those screenshots btw :icon_cool:

All I heard last night was "this is great, flying away simulator 2015" and your struggle to find them all the time haha.

Band of Others may have just created the sport of the future! Its like NA$CAR mixed with skiing, and sponsored by NASA!

Welcome to Extreme Falling - SRV Scarab division!!

So: I am conflicted.
Horizons seems to be generally well accepted here.
Meanwhile all the feedback I've seen says it's a bit...lacklustre for the money.
Looking for well-versed opinions on it.

That depends a lot of what kind of player you are...and what you expect from Elite.

First of all ....the Price of Horizons is the Price of all the season 2 updates that comes out this year.

Secondly..what do you want from a game? ..if you want a red line/story though your gameplay ...Horizons is not for you....more then any other game I have played..gameplay is what you make of it in Elite....

an example I am currently planing to redo an exploration trip to the NGC 7822 Nebula...I tried this last year and failed because the ship I chose could not jump far enough. This time around Im going to use Jumponium (what the community calles the FSD injection which is basically a one time boost of your jumprange to reach further. I have enough boosts that I should be able to make my journey now.
So I used hours on planets trying to collect the materials I needed for my trip...I was "preparing" for my large journey into the unknown. While doing that I got distracted by a report that a crashed anaconda was found on a planet ages from where I was. A friend of mine went there and explored it. It was an amazing experience...the sound the darkness (dark side of the planet) the entire atmosphere. After that I got reports of alien structures being found in a Nebula 400ly away...Again I went there to find the place and explore it..just experience it..another friend of mine meet up with me there and we had fun just doing it...driving..beeing there....seeing our ships etc.

As you might be able to read from this MOST of the stuff Im enjoying hugely is in my head.

To me Elite Dangerous Horizons (and the main game before) is the first *real* sandbox game I have played...it just gives me the tools to play out my fantasy..my role ...it does not ...play the game for me.....like ..fallout ....
its a sandbox that gives me a bucket and shovel and let me play around with it like I want.........

The thing is..Horizons just took my sandbox and multiplied it a billion times...oh and they gave me cars to play with in the sandbox...and it will keep expanding....

To me...Horizons is a hugely worth it..it gave me a large part of what I was missing from the main game :)

Does any of this make any sense to you?

It seems like rampling now :s

Great write up Laursen. And I concur. The first time I tried Horizons I was with Duke and another (I can't remember who sorry I'd had a few drinks).

I came in to land on a planet in my Clipper, as I was descending and started to hover looking for a suitable landing spot, there went Duke in his SRV, gracefully flying through the air sideways facing my cockpit like "hellooooo". The rest of that evening I laughed my ass off driving my SRV up the nose of a Python onto it's back, the three of us tearing around in the SRV's doing nothing in particular other than laughing and having fun. It was worth the money for that alone, let alone what's to come in the Horizons updates.

For those with horizons; a nice new CG - barnacle related too!

Shame I've got to be social and entertain the family for a few days. Timing.

Well, that was a waste of time. Microphone wasn't picking up anything I was saying, despite being moved right in front of my face, and the Vulture build was so fucked that I couldn't take down a Type-9... Going to have to go back and watch my VoD from Thursday to figure out where I went wrong, because that Vulture kicked ass and had ZERO power issues.. but unfortunately I don't have time for that tonight. This was supposed to just be a quick and easy two hours..

Sorry guys, hope you're having/had more luck!

Nope, I had my own issues last night as well.

Still have no idea how to effectively kit out my Fer de Lance and the crappy weapon selection in I Carinae didn't help at all. The time to kill on my FDL is a bit too long currently so I've been experimenting to get it lower.

Unfortunately that equated to me taking risks I normally would think twice on and I took a beating in the process.

3 Jumps into a Hazardous RES equated to 1.5 million, 325,000 and ramming head on into a Gunship, losing my ship and about 500,000 credits.

So 25 Jumps to I Carinae only to have it now be my base of operations for the FDL.

...and I came out with less money last night than first booting in...f3ck my life!

I'm not 110% sure but I think I'm running D2 Lasers, F2 Multi-Cannons and experimenting on the Large (underbelly).

Plasma served me well on the Python so I'd like to go in that direction but I'm still not entirely sure how the FDL handles heat? So far it seems to take longer to overheat as compared to the Python so if that's the case Plasma may be my ticket.

I just need to find a place close to I Carinae that sells decent weaponry because my FSD has a maximum jump of 8 light years so it takes forever to get anywhere.
