It all worked out for the best p, I went to bed owing money and woke up wanted. I was all "wanted who cares lol. I'm outta here gone to be a pirate lol" I started to blast out of there full throttle to begin my life of crime and I got scanned and pew pew pewed. Now I have a fancy new ship, debt, and a new outlook on life.

Kind of like real life now that I think about it.

Sorry tm just seen this...

I actually lol'd when I read your post, I did exactly the same thing hahaha

How are you finding it credit wise, I mean, what are your goals at the moment, are you wanting to go explore, just build up a huge bankroll (which is never enough for the things we want, again, much like real life eh), join the military? Or are you happy getting blown up by space stations lol

No, I'm doing much better now. I'm playing a couple of hours a night and have probably 40k saved up. I have a little corner of the galaxy where I do little trading hops and dabble in commodities. Just getting the mechanics of it all figured out.

I think I know the answer to this, but is it better to upgrade my sidewinders power plant, frameshift drive, etc. or just grind to a better ship?

I usually upgrade first, as it makes the grinding easier, and shorter. Just make sure to upgrade wisely, you wouldn't be the first to pick a fight, deploy hardpoints and then discover that he has not enough power to shoot the shiny new weapons, lol.

In the Beta I went from Sidey to Hauler, in the release I went from Sidey to Adder.

Both times I upgraded my Sidey with a few things, mainly the FSD drive and the power plant, along with the usual cargo improvements etc.

Remember, when it comes to upgrading, you only lose 10% on the RRP of your ship, sell your upgraded or newly bought outfitting items as you get the whole price back. This also gives you the option of buying them back once you get in the new ship, as the station you're in might not have the outfitting items you want or need :)

Sounds like you are doing good tm, I reckon you'll be a beast by the time wings is released in March, then we can all team up and kick some space ass ;)

Oh, that's good to hear. Thanks for the info guys, it looks like I'm doing a little shopping later.

Going for a cobra myself. Grabbing bounty kills in the extraction zones made 24k credits in 10 minutes....... and 14k fine for picking up what the kills drop. lol
After fighting for a few hours i am starting to feel some what limited by the keyboard and mouse. I would like to get a joystick and throttle but i know next to nothing about them. Any help would be great.

Thrustmaster T-flight HOTAS. It's cheap, yet does the job well, it's actually surprisingly good stuff you get for little money. You could go for something more professional but that would triple the price quickly, or tenfold it...

Yes I was lucky enough to get an X52 Pro from my Wife for a Christmas gift last year but I hear good things about the Thrustmaster too.

With the X52 I don't have to use the keyboard or take my hands off the controls (a big consideration for me as I'm investing in the Oculus Rift).

If you don't mind using the keyboard as well as the stick buttons it looks like a good bet, and a big improvement over keyboard and mouse!

You can always get Roccat Power Grid and use that too, this is what I used when I was using a Cyborg Evo as that didn't have enough buttons on it to cover everything, so I used a power grid to use on my tablet.

It's free too :)

Exactly. I still want to make money trading, but I don't want to be helpless in a fight.

On a related note, do I have to worry about getting interdicted by NPCs? I fought one of them one time and it was easy. I'd do it more often if I didn't have to worry about losing ship and cargo...

You can get interdicted by a Sidewinder, or you can get interdicted by a Federal Dropship armed to the teeth (as I found out in my Adder).

If you want to run, the best way is to submit to the interdiction (throttle to zero), that way you don't take any damage, and set 4 pips to engines, boost away until you can spool up the FSD drive. If you submit to it the FSD drive takes less time to cool down.

If you are in anarchy space you won't get any bounties unless you have a kill warrant scanner and use it before destroying their ship, so I usually don't bother fighting then, but, as I'm hustling in a Cobra trying to get Baron rank in the Imperial Navy I usually have a bit of a rumble if someone dares to try and interdict me yeah :icon_twisted:

It depends on where you are, what ship you are piloting, what you are carrying and if you are wanted etc. as to how often you get interdicted

Also depends if you are playing in solo/PG/open of course too

I generally tend to submit to the interdiction, scan them so I know what I'm dealing with and from there decide on whether to fight or leg it ;)

Little P, dose the X52 pro joystick stick when doing fine moments like many reviews say and is it a big issue for ED? Could that sticking issue be fixed with a lighter spring? The x52 and X52 pro is only 40$ difference, but many reviews place the throttle for x52 pro in high standards but joystick not that high due to sticking issue. trying to get the best bang for the buck. Unless you guy wants to sponsor me so i can get a warthog. lol

Hello mate, no not had any problems like that at all. I can't say enough good things about it, by far and away the best peripheral I've ever owned... with the added bonus that the X52 is the actual HOTAS your avatar uses in-ship :)

Fine movements with my Pro are a breeze, and it's a real pleasure to use, no drift at all, even if I move it in precise 1-2mm increments and let go it'll return and the ship will be static. My Evo had some awful drift on it (it was very old) which I always compensated for manually rather than setting deadzones so this feels great.

I googled "X52 Pro sticky stick" btw to see what you might mean but I really wish I hadn't  Safesearch ftw

I'm almost sold on this game. I still wish it had capital ships but maybe they'll add it down the line... one can only hope. I have a couple questions though... does anyone play with mouse and keyboard? I have a flightstick just I've always found using one for space sims weird (I only use it for flight sims). Maybe could get used to it, just wondering what everyone uses. Maybe use my xbox controller, not sure if I'd have enough buttons though.

Is there an exploration aspect to it? Like I know the universe is huge, and it looks like they include some awesome celestial phenomenon, like black holes (can't wait to visit one) but is there a "career" to be made of it? Can you use exploration to make cash, finding artifacts or ancient civilizations, ship and station wrecks, that sort of thing? I loved Eve Online's scanning mechanics, to be able to pin down a signature.

Thanks Little P, i will be ordering one tonight. Daunt there is a exploration aspect to it. Exploration consist of flying to different systems and scanning all stars/planets, then reselling/trading the info to other systems. The farther the better. I have seen some shots of people making 100K credits on one scan, not sure if it is common or rare. I am not sure what else that can be found haven't played that long. i did start with a keyboard and mouse but started to feel limited when trying to dogfight, for other things it was fine but I still didn't feel like I was playing a flight game.

Congrats mate, it's a fantastic bit of kit, you'll love it I'm sure, if you want any help setting it up (keybinds etc.) let me know :)

Daunt - Exploration is getting some love in 1.1 which is about to drop.

There's a lot happening in the update, but key things re: exploration are that;

- route planning is extended from 100 LY to 1,000 LY

- if you discover a celestial body and you are the first, your name will appear everytime a CMDR scans that object as the discoverer.

- If you are the first to scan an object you get a 50% bonus on the CR reward.

- You can sell exploration data page by page now, which speeds up the process.

Honestly, you won't make as much credits exploring as you do trading, but that's not the point really, exploring is something to really sink your teeth into, and it's really relaxing and fun if you've got some of your tunes on and you set off into the vast Galaxy. The bonus is you can come back from a trip with millions of credits of exploration data ;) You can set a goal, like visiting Nebulas, or the centre of the Galaxy, or try and reach an outer edge (good luck! make sure you have an auto repair maintenance module fitted lol), go black hole hunting (careful not to get too close lol) etc. etc. And with the graphical updates to planets and the fact you can see lights from inhabited planets, makes such a difference.

The real gems are the "earth like worlds". If you find one of those it's a very rare thing, and even better if you can discover it first and get your name on there for the rest of time :icon_cool:

There's a lot to exploring, it's been improved a lot already, 1.1 and subsequent updates are going to up the ante even further for explorers :)

That's pretty cool. I don't know any back story at all, but it seems they're missing out on some potential exploration aspects. Still... I'll probably scoop the game up in the coming weeks. It looks way too good to miss out on.
