Elite: The Future

With my previous thread talking about the upcoming update, and my playtime with Elite currently a bit on the lower end, I got to thinking what Elite needs.

Granted, we all know that Elite is not finished, and is continuously being developed, with lots of cool things added on what seems like a pretty regular basis for game development.

So what does Elite need to be deeper, to envelope you further?

Short term, (and that is pretty relative) I think what could make the biggest impact for me is being able to shape the galaxy, even slightly, to what you want.

Now I know, they've said Elite never will be a game where you can amass fleets of ships, build stations, and carve out your own empire, and I'm fine with that, really it makes it more immersive that way. But the idea of having your own secret asteroid base, where you can keep your ships, instead of having them scattered about at random stations, is insanely awesome.

The fact that you can go anywhere in Elite in a system needs to be complimented with the fact that you can set up shop ANYWHERE. Think of the gameplay this would add in multiplayer, too. Raiding or attacking other player bases.

So that is just one idea I've had. Anyone else think "It would be cool if..."?

All I care about is Planetary Landings, Planetary Exploration, a body outside to go with the body inside and some FPS elements.

Also, a fix for the stuttering that always happens when you enter Hyperspace; you think that would have been solved by now.

Maybe too much to hope for but one can dream.

Planetary landings will add a huge element to it, definitely. Would be really awesome on non-atmospheric planets as well.

What do you mean by FPS elements?

By FPS elements I'm referring to some low level First Person Shooter gameplay such as simply being able to walk free of your ship and explore. Even walking around your ship would be awesome so that would be the minimum.

Ultimately I'd love to be able to go to my weapon locker and engage hostiles at a planetary level. I'd love to see the same system where if you shoot a friendly all in the sudden your Wanted and have to escape the planet in order to survive. Being captured could also be interesting as you'd have to deal with your captor for your freedom and do whatever it is they bid of you.

I'm not sure but if you let your mind wander there's certainly a lot of things that could be done if they could bring in this level of gameplay.

...which over the course of a populated Universe I doubt we'd ever see this level of detail but here's hoping.

I agree with the walking around and such. I know they've talked about that, and you should at least be able to walk around the ship and hopefully inside it. They've said they'd love to implement stations as places you can get out and walk around in, which would be awesome for some of the stations they have.

I can't imagine how cool it would be to experience something like a Torus ring or an O'Neill cylinder station. I know Elite has the Stanford Torus (Called Orbis in-game) station:

As awesome as it would be to explore the stations, they'd ideally need some sort of transport because they are HUGE.

I would really like to be able to walk around my ship, explore the place and see what my cargo looks like. I've always wondered: how do 500 odd tonnes of slaves look in a T9? Whilst wandering about my ship it would be really nice to change seats in the cockpit if there is more than one.

But first I'm with Duke. Fix the damn stuttering already. :icon_eek:
