Far Cry 3 Gameplay Video

Far Cry 3

I was already interested in this upcoming title, and I must say this new gameplay video (looks like it's from xbox) isn't letting me down at all. If the game comes with a level editor as well it looks like it will be a no brainer for me.

Here's the video:

Ya I've been watching this one too and it's really looking sweet. The gameplay looks intense enough as well, good video NT :)

I never did play Far Cry 2 because the AI in Far Cry turned me off. I didn't like AI finding me where they couldn't possibly find me (in the Jungle) and then ripping me to pieces.

I know it's been a while but is the AI no longer clairvoyant?

No, you could use stealth pretty well in far cry 2. Problem was more there was AI all over the map, you could barely drive around for 30 seconds without hitting a checkpoint or patrol, and once you cleared those they would respawn as soon as you were outside visual range.
The game came with a dream of a map editor, just the map editor alone was worth the money to me, had a lot of fun with that. Hence my hope for the same thing for FC3.

On a side note, having 2 feet of purple buttplug sticking out of a bush is a dead giveaway.

Interesting game, wondering how this will look on the PC.

Never really played the first two parts, but Far Cry is more oriented on single player, although it has multiplayer support as well.. right?

Some more info about the game has been released, and I must say it seems they changed everything that was annoying in Far Cry 2 for the better;

-People stay dead. Everyone having played Far Cry 2 agreed on how annoying this was, you'd wipe out an entire checkpoint of enemies, and if you'd pass he same checkpoint 5 minutes later it would be fully staffed again and you'd have to clear it all over. Not anymore in far Cry 3. If you clear out an area, it's yours.

-No gun rusting. In Far Cry 2 you'd be glad to be able to use a handfull of bullet cartridges on a gun before it started jamming and falling apart. Not so in 3, instead you'll get a 'getting used to the weapon' effect, which I guess means you'll get faster at reloading etc. the longer you use a certain weapon.

-No malaria pills. Though not as much as a drag as the above menioned, no need for taking pills. In 3 we'll get insanity and hallucinations instead anyway :p

For more info click here.

It's good to see the developers seem to have listened to the feedback they got for Far Cry 2. And the best thing about the game, the map editor, is still there. Just the editor is reason enough for me to buy this game, had lots of fun with it in the previous game.

I saw this 15 min. singleplayer gameplay video from pax last week, and I must say it got me excited much more then the multiplayer demo's I've seen so far. Looks like singleplay will be feature rich and extensive judging from this video.

You can clearly see some influences from assassins creed and red dead redemption have made it into the game. The island(s) have radio towers scattered around, which need to be climbed so you can 'de-scramble' the scrambled radio transmitter on top. Once done it will reveal part of your map, and the cam will show some points of interest nearby. Once progressing through the main story line the towers will become increasingly harder to climb. It's clear some of the assassins creed developers are incorporated in the Far Cry 3 development team of 250 people.

There's dozens of different kinds of wildlife around, varying from goats to tigers, comodo varans and sharks. Once killed, animals can be skinned (very much like red dead), and the meat can be traded for weapons, ammo etc. Next to that the enemy forces tend to trade in life animals too, so it's possible to stealthily approach an enemy camp, snipe the lock off a bear cage and watch the havoc unfold. Downside is you might end up having to kill the bear yourself in the end of course.

Gameplay has also clearly taken a turn towards RPG elements. E.g. when you clear out an enemy outpost, friendly forces will move in (the original inhabitants of the islands who got driven out of the town/outpost by the pirate bad guys.). It will also unlock 'sidequests' like assassination of specific persons (being posted as a wanted poster), hunting quests and even races. It also can unlock shopping possibilities, ranging from staffed shops to weapon lockers. You'll also be able to fast travel to outposts after they have been conquered.

It's also possible to gather plants, which can be used for crafting. One example of what you can craft is Hunter’s Instinct potion which gives you enhanced animal perception. Each plant will grow in its suitable biome. There are several biomes with sub-biomes both on land and underwater, ranging from cannabis fields to coral reefs. Animals will also be roaming in their specific biomes.

Downed enemies will also have inventories that can be looted, and there also will be loot to be found around the island and even under water, which all can be traded or used accordingly. There also will be safe towns where you can safely trade without having a gun being pushed into your face.
Add to this the excellent level editor, and this game is bound to have me entertained for a long while.

Playing the main story line will take around 20 hours, doing all side missions, finding all secrets and eradicating the islands of all pirates will take you hundreds of hours. Anyway, lots of the things I just described can be seen in the gameplay vid, judge for yourself:

A new multiplayer trailer has been released for Far Cry 3. It has an uhm, lets say, interesting end to it. There's some unusual game elements too...

I've been checking a couple of Far Cry 3 livestreams from several larger gaming sites, and I must admit they only got me more excited to get my hands on this game.

With the game being close to release, reviews are popping up everywhere and the game is being rated great with an average around 9 (8.8 for PC, 9.1 for xbox 360, 9.1 for PS3).

The good critics are largely thanks to the excellent recieved singleplayer, while the multiplayer is being considered as being 'same old same', give or take a few gimmicks (see the trailer from my previous post)

The singleplayer is a true, large sized open world experience, enriched with small platform games (climbing the radio towers), a main and side quests, a story line that's not particularly extensive, but featuring very memorable characters, inventory management and crafting system, 3 skill trees to upgrade, drug induced psychedelic experiences, plenty of (customizable) weapons with of course fire arms but also other weapons ranging from bow and arrow to molotov coctails, wildlife to interact with (or interacting with you if you're unlucky) and a good range of vehicles and other modes of transportation, ranging from jetski's to hanggliders.
Oh, and for a change you must heal yourself when wounded, wether it's by injection, applying bandages, picking a lodged bullet from your arm with your knife, or snapping your dislocated wrist back in place yourself.

In other words, a rich and lasting single player experience is to be found here, which I'm really looking forward to. After all it has been a disappointing year this year when it comes to shooter SP experiences, with Max Payne 3 being the only positive exception as far as I'm concerned.

And worth mentioning, though the multiplayer experience may be average, the game comes with an extensive level editor (I should say level builder) which I personally consider to be one of the best and most user friendly in game editors ever to exist up to this point. So plenty of opportunity to improve the MP experience yourself with some great level design.

Europe release scheduled for the 29th, can't wait :)

A couple of new trailers (map editor and coop), with some news about the map editor that I hadn't heard before. Next to making multiplayer maps, you can also make singleplayer levels it seems, effectively making the possible gameplay endless for as long as there will be a download server up or you'll make your own missions.

Looking forward to picking this game up the 29th (UK will have to wait till 30th, US to Dec 4), nice to see something released earlier in Europe then in the US for a change (as it's usually the other way round 98% of the time...)

One last update before I pick up the game in about half a day from now.
Ubi released the launch trailer, and it's a whopping ten minutes, because that's how long it takes to just sum up (some) of the basic features in the game. Enjoy :)
