Finally purchased Windows 10

I've been talking about this for a while now but I finally broke down and actually purchased Widows 10 on the weekend.

I purchased the USB version of Windows 10 Home 64 Bit which should arrive sometime this week.

Anything I need to know about this to get functionality similar to 7.1?

Congratulations, welcome to the future! Windows 10 is great and is better in nearly every way than 7....and I loved 7, so that's a big deal for me to say. Windows 8 this is not.

That said, Windows 10 loves to force updates on you at really inopportune times. Make sure you go in and tell it to ask you before it does reboots. I've seen people lose races because Windows 10 forced a reboot on them mid-race. Really if you leave your PC on like I do most of the time, just tell it to do updates at like 3 AM.

Also, when installing it, turn off all the data collection stuff (don't take the Express Settings, go to the Advanced Settings during the install). It's nothing terrible, but I don't like having my usage data streamed to MS and it's easy to turn off.

Doesn't Windows 10 have a regedit/selective startup option just to disable all this shit?

Personally I'd much rather regedit than dl something to do it for me.

Yea sort of, its mostly blocking a bunch of sites in the host file which it gives you the list so you can do it yourself. I've had to lock this shit down because windows likes to turn all that stuff back on with windows update. I also got glasswire and blocked everything non essential, including windows update. This stupid OS is sadly a necessary evil but it is a royal pain in the ass compared to past versions of windows.

I found following this was helpful in getting my Win 10 performing well. I'm still not a fan of how Win 10 handles updates. 7 was much better in this regard.
