Fireplace Fables; Or How I Learned to Love the 12.7x99mm Round

Wake up in Chenarus at camp and decide to work with D.O.A and Sub to try to let the beans come to us and get some AS50 trigger time, so we work our way down to the NWAF.

Being the first or second time shooting and moving targets and having to lead, initial performance is iffy at best. One target shows up before complete setup by everyone and I took and early shot and missed as he was using the shoot and run approach to looting. Second target (different clothing) shows up not too much later near the north barracks and used a smoke and run to zip into the building from behind it and back out behind as well. One shot released as he left the building, but too late as he covered back up behind it and one more as he skirted left to right (not enough lead) by the pine trees looking for us.

Things get better after gaining some weapon proficiency from those encounters. The third target shows up in the second hangar south from the fire-station and is using a slower stealthier approach. This time shots are coordinated and D.O.A. and I shoot nearly simultaneously, mine hits first. He looks like a three geyser blood fountain and no one is dumb enough to run across the airfield to loot a low-value looking kill, so we continue scanning. Some time later as we're joking about what noob will be dumb enough to loot the body, that's exactly what we get...shots fired and D.O.A. racks this one up, decides to hang it up on that one. We scan for some more with no results.

Since we can't loot without someone on the east side, this is degenerating into psychopathy, plus the #2 hangar south looking like blood lake isn't going to encourage NWAF runners, so I pull back a little from the 'grassy knoll' and partake of some r/l cooked meat and water.

Log back in from my hiatus, and no Sub lots of white zed markers to the north and someone has marked "All Clear" and "No Bandits Here" at the NWAF, so I get cautious (my natural state, I know). As I'm listening for gunshots to tell me someone has replaced us in our position, I believe I actually hear the eating noise...Whoa! Time to relocate and try to silently flank. I roll down the hill and move NW trying to catch a glimpse of someone running the hilltop. Subs shows back up at this time and we decide to stalk. Moving back up the hill we see no one in the perch, now we have more zed spawned to the south. We take a look but can't see him down there, after a bit we note more zeds across the way, Sub goes to look down low and meanwhile I note more zed dots back up north again, so back NW to cover. Sub starts yelling a guy is running right at him and the hole in the fence we're at and tries the silenced pistol on him, miraculously he doesn't shoot Sub but moves past him and through the fence. I move back up the hill trying to find him when we get a lot of gunfire and several death notices, then another round of fire (probably agrod zeds) this time to my north which allows me to localize him. I round a tree and see him kneeling in the middle of a stand of pines, I already had the AS50 zeroed at 100m so I scope and fire, killing Thom (remembered his name as he was very generous). Was worried for a bit as I didn't have + murder but then realized bandit kill!

Sub replaces me at the shooting position and I go loot as he is full up...score NV goggles, toolbos and a GPS as well as his M16A2. We loot it as clean as we can then head back on the motorcycle to drop loot. Eng and Jez had logged in during the rukus as well as Ninja-Noob, so we decide to do a Petrol run (eurotrip style) into Vybor. Sub and I pre-position careful not to spawn the zeds at the gas station for overwatch. Eurotrip fuel raid goes without a hitch and Sub and I move back to see what other kind of trouble we can get into.

Pretty much bang right off the bat we get zombie spawn across the NWAF and start to look for him. We finally catch him at #1 Hangar S of the fire-station he pauses to shoot a Zed and I shoot at the pause, kill number 3 is named Mudbutt, frustrating Sub a bit I think cause he wanted to shoot Mudbutt himself when we saw him on the server, but the counter part of fire-discipline is that when you get that easy shot, you take it and Sub didn't have the target yet. Jez and Eng drop Noob off NW of the airfield so he can work east and loot the AF and dead body. He works thru the entire west side of the Airfield coming across the body and getting a tent from him! Just what we needed at camp to counter our storage issues! Takes off across the runways to loot the SW barracks and DayZ alpha software happens to him and he aggros about 12 zeds and dies.

Now we got a couple of problems, Noob's tent is gonna de-spawn on us since he died so now we need that tent more than ever, and we got a Noob on the coast to deal with. We decide on Sub's suggestion to go for the tent out there on his body and deal with Noob a little later cause logging in is taking forever. We start looking for the body in the wrong area out in the open and Sub starts taking fire, probably multiple source! Don't know how but her prones, rolls and runs for cover and manages to not die, I find one shooter in the control tower but he ducks once and I try to find the second one. Tower shooter stands back up so I can see his head from down low where I am, I zero for 300 as the tower is 332 pull a mil-dot of elevation fully zoomed and fire, target goes down with a head-shot and the tower glass shatters spectacularly. Get an immediate notification of someone losing connection after that (Alt-F4'ing out) and think we may be clear.

We get clarification on where Noob's body is, move over towards the SW barracks to loot it and Sub see's a guy running right at him, no-scopes him with a couple of quick shots and kills a =Dig= clan guy, there's 3-4 on the server but one recently died and is on the coast, still have one possible nearby, Sub gets the tent and we meet in the field near the building for a vehicle extraction with the motorcycle. Refuel and VEHEXT Noob north of Cherno and day complete.

So what did we learn today FT/565 survivors? Fire-discplipline in important, so are all your senses in locating enemies. Zeds exist to let you know where people are, don't let them tell someone else the same. And going slow is bad at camped locations, quick with a zed distraction or run and gun is bestest!

Don't mean to brag, but that's my story of Day 8 hope you enjoyed it. I know some people are having trouble with the early parts of the game and learning it. I'd like to enourage them with yesterday's event and assure them that they will have days like this too, as I can readily remember having difficulties getting from Day 0 to Day 1. These moments we had during the course of doing somewhat boring things are what make this game fun for me and I'm sure with everyone's help will happen for them too. Of course it could all crash down about our heads today or tomorrow, all over a can of beans!

Wish we had stayed awake long enough to see the end of the story! Poor n00bs. I hope his butt doesn't hurt too bad. I heard those zombies are not gentle.

Re: Fireplace Fables; Or How I Learner to Love the 12.7x99mm Round

Had another interesting early session with the Euros! At the NWAF with D.O.A. sniping, Wappy, JohnnyK & Ninja decide to crash the party and loot. D.O.A. had a kill near the Control Tower before I got there. Wapwap gets one in the fire-station as they're making their way through the buildings. As we're looting the SW barracks dude on a bicycle rides in and starts grabbing all the zeds on the bicycle. We figure he's a distraction and guy will come out of the forest any time now, but no such animal appears. Finally he rides past Wappy on the west side circles around and gets off the bike and starts shooting. Wap goes unconscious, I start shooting, bad zero third shot finally hits. Look at the announcements and says [FT/565] Wapwap has died and Tom (2) has died. So we couldn't save Wap, but gained a bicycle. Wap is down near Cherno, so we need another VEHEX for him!

Oh and how do I edit the thread title, since I'm a tard?

What did Ninja learn from all this.....a Axe has 100000 swings.... never needs reload...but not sure if that would have helped in this situation.... yes the Z'ees seem to glitch spawn...if you are around buildings and don't see and Z'ees then watch out for them to spawn on top of you...basically that's what happened to me yesterday...and a big thanks to Ogami for the quick pick up last night....

Yeah last night was cool , even more when wappie's kill took his sweet time and we had to guess his position from the points where the Z's were spawning .
That was pretty tense .

Btw , Wappie , Grats on popping your cherry ;)

Great stories Ogami, keep 'em up! They're a nice read.

Pretty tense that was indeed, and some good cooperation between eachother. That dude on the bike.. don't know what he was up to beside driving around on the airfield aggro-ing zombies. He seemed like a loner, as no-one showed up after he got killed. Or perhaps is companion got scared. Atleast we got some extra equipment/vehicles out of it!

I'm back at camp again, thanks for the extraction D.O.A.!
